Bonus Round 1: Memory

Bonus Round 1: Memory

Let's start our summer by looking at the past—things that happened in canon, or maybe in an AU, or maybe just as wishful thinking...

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on June 9 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post! You prompt should consist of one scenario beginning with the phrase "Remember when", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from our list of nominated fandoms.
    • Your prompts can take the form of recalling canon facts/events ("Remember when Nozomi and Eli got parfaits after school?"), non-canon events ("Remember when Megumi and Jin met at the Tadokoro Family Reunion?"), or somewhere in-between ("Remember when Bokuto and Kenma first met?"). Headcanons and AUs are welcome!
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Rei & Nagisa). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Rei/Nagisa). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Post fills by leaving a responding comment to a prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

    SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

    For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
    Fills 4-10: 10 points each
    Fills 11-20: 5 points each
    Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

    Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

I never loved the night sky, it was always too dark, too ominous, too frightening. I never appreciated the little lights that twinkled in the stretch of darkness. They always seemed like they were beings trying to reach out, yet failing to do so and drowning in the massive canvass of dark matter. Walking underneath it made me feel cramped and if my feet weren't planted firmly on the ground, I'd be constantly anxious of falling towards the dark. Yet Mother told me it was in the darkest time of day that I'd get to see something remarkable because its only when everything is dark that the important things shine. I wish I'd asked back then what she really meant, but its too late now. She's joined the countless beings living up there, reaching out yet so far. Maybe she's one of the stars I see right now, but I could never be too sure. Thats the reason why even though I never liked the night, I found myself looking up, staring longingly for that remarkable thing I'd only be able to see at night.

Tonight was like every other night, with dinner done and my grandfather asleep, I'm left alone with my tired muscles, the dark sky and the small tiled area of the roof deemed safe enough to sit on as proven by the countless times my mother sat and just watched. Maybe she was watching out for Father's star or maybe other people who were important to her, I've never asked but I've been sitting here in her place for the past two years every night, waiting, watching, trying to calm my heart thats pounding, scared of being lost in the dark. Its not as if our neighborhood is particularly dark or quiet, but the whole of the night sky can be viewed from where I sat and it reminds me just how small I really am.

I wonder if I'll ever see something remarkable, something invisible when the glorious sun is out, something unnoticeable when everything else is bright. I wonder if its going to be important or maybe just something that I can live without. It makes me laugh bitterly sometimes how I chose this particular way of continuing my mother's ways- a silent nightly vigil of the night sky and its infinite twinkling inhabitants.

Tonight was like every other night, a breeze every now and then, a random alleycat declaring its woes, those working during the night walking past our building and me sitting as quietly and as comfortably as I can on the flattest part of our roof. It was like every other night save for the seemingly growing glow of a star towards the west. I didn't really notice it at first till it almost filled a quarter of my vision and something within me stirred.

A most remarkable thing indeed Mother, I've found it in the form of an approaching star, a bright ring of light, the color of your favorite flower. I should have been scared, terrified and yet I find myself running out onto the street to see where the star falls. Its near I'm sure, right along the edge of town.

I ran as fast as I can, despite the curious glances I was given and the still cold air of early spring. It crossed my mind briefly how the other nighttime stragglers didn't seem to notice the falling star. With thoughts racing, legs burning and my heart in throat, I sprinted towards the star, the being that used to reside in the night so far away, finally able to escape. A slight tremor caused me to slow down, the star finally landed and it pushed me to go even faster.

The fields surrounding town never looked more beautiful, surrounded by an ethereal rosy glow, the bland rice stalks looked like buds ready to bloom. But what caught my eye was the source of all this light, a slightly quivering figure still too far to see clearly. I walked cautiously yet in hurried steps, trying to maneuver around the growing rice, eyes glued upon the being recently freed from the grasp of the night. A few meters away, I could see the slender frame of the being, a humanoid it seems, with same number of limbs as I did. But it truly must be a heavenly being because the source of light was the crown of rose pink hair set atop its head. I missed my step when my curious mind failed to notice the edge of the crater and I stumbled a bit. My mind froze, as did my body, when the figure slowly turned in my direction.

I watched transfixed as the star curled its lips upon seeing me, for some unknown reason, I did not feel ill at ease. In fact I felt comfortable, as if I'm used to its presence, even as it uttered:

"What took you so long. After staring at me all this time, I hope you don't just stand there doing nothing. You suck."

I stared at all the night's beings everyday, not knowing one of them noticed me and chose to fall down. I couldn't reply to its statement, but it pulled a laugh out of me - something I haven't heard in two years. I wished at that moment you were still here, Mother, maybe then I'd get to tell you how right you were - the night really does bring remarkable things.

Wow, the narration in this is so beautiful *o* There's such an otherworldly air to it, and then the down-to-earth dialogue - it's great! I love the atmosphere, and 'the night really does bring remarkable things' - it felt like I was reading a published short story in an anthology or something! (weird description, sorry >.<)
