Bonus Round 1: Memory

Bonus Round 1: Memory

Let's start our summer by looking at the past—things that happened in canon, or maybe in an AU, or maybe just as wishful thinking...

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on June 9 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post! You prompt should consist of one scenario beginning with the phrase "Remember when", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from our list of nominated fandoms.
    • Your prompts can take the form of recalling canon facts/events ("Remember when Nozomi and Eli got parfaits after school?"), non-canon events ("Remember when Megumi and Jin met at the Tadokoro Family Reunion?"), or somewhere in-between ("Remember when Bokuto and Kenma first met?"). Headcanons and AUs are welcome!
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Rei & Nagisa). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Rei/Nagisa). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Post fills by leaving a responding comment to a prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Posts not using this format will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, regardless of what they contain. They, like all comments in this community, are subject to the code of conduct.

    SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

    For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
    Fills 4-10: 10 points each
    Fills 11-20: 5 points each
    Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

    Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

Major Character Death
523 words

When Teshima was 16, he visited Aoyagi's grave for the first time. The character for "victory" was carved into the stone, and Teshima always heard people wondering what it meant, how death at such a young age could be considered victory. But he knew, just as he knew why Aoyagi had been buried with one cycling glove, and that was what mattered. He visited Aoyagi's grave every day that year and talked about whatever came to mind -- the weather, how he was feeling, something amusing he had overheard in the hallway that day.

When he was 18, he started college in Kyoto. It was too far away to visit Aoyagi's grave every day, but he took the train back every weekend without fail. He talked mainly about himself that year, about his classes and career plans, and everything he wished they could have done together.

When he was 27, he finished his PhD and became an assistant professor. His course schedule and his research left him without much time of his own, but he always left the first weekend of every month to visit. He talked of the people they had known, and what they were doing then. He told Aoyagi about Makishima's clothing line and Tadokoro's bakery, Imaizumi's professional cycling career and Onoda's continued love of anime.

When he was 35, he accepted a faculty position overseas. Travel was more difficult, but he still found time to return every season. When he visited, he spoke of the big things, marriages and children, major world events.

When he was 50, he returned to Japan. It was easier to make the trip out to Aoyagi's grave then, but life had moved on around him. He didn't know what to talk about anymore. He had drifted away from most of the people they had both known, and so much of what was happening in the world involved people and events Aoyagi had never seen. He still made the trip every year for Obon and for the New Year, but the visits were stilted and awkward, and he never went back in between.

When he was 70, he retired. He had more time to himself, but aging made travel more difficult. He still only made the trip twice a year, but he stopped worrying about what to say. He talked about whatever came to mind, just as he had when they were in high school together. He would spend hours at Aoyagi's grave describing a book he had read, a painting he thought Aoyagi would have liked, or an interesting cloud in the sky.

When he was 84, he visited Aoyagi's grave for the last time. A few weeks later, a new gravestone was erected on the plot next to Aoyagi's that had remained empty for decades. Carved deeply into the center of the stone was the character for "certain." The same character was written on the cycling glove buried with Teshima; the leather was worn and the ink faded, but it was still visible, even after so many years. It had taken nearly seventy years, but the Team of Two was finally complete once more.
