Bonus Round 3: Gift Tags

Bonus Round 3: Gift Tags

Feeling generous? In this round, you get to give creative gifts as prompts.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on July 7 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Submit prompts as a gift tag in the format below. You can specify the size and a characteristic of the gift, who the sender is, who the recipient is, and a one or two sentence note from the sender to the recipient. Descriptions of the package and the included note don’t have to be explicit, see below.
    • Package: medium sized cube, rattles
      From: Kageyama Tobio
      To: Hinata Shouyou
Note: These will help you get better.
    • Envelope: manila, 12''x17'', very thick and heavy
      From: Tezuka Kunimitsu
      To: Kinjou Shingo
Note: Enclosed - Play without regrets!
  • Your prompt MUST include a relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Riko & Momoi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Riko/Momoi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work. Fillers can get creative with how to interpret the prompt: your fill can be about the character receiving the gift, one or both characters using the gift, what prompted the sender to send the gift—the physical gift itself can even be excluded from your fill. What’s important is that the gift tag is clearly the inspiration for your fill.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Posts not using this format will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, regardless of what they contain. They, like all comments in this community, are subject to the code of conduct.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

one bad word, word count: 638
i wrote this without double-checking the prompt so shiga-sensei isn't actually in it and i ended up changing the wording of the note a little. hope that's ok and you like it anyway!

They met on a Friday night at a bar. Light flirtation turned into real conversation when they realized they both coached high school sports, and they moved from the bar to a table.

“I work at a convenience store, usually,” Ukai said. “Wouldn't have started coaching if Takeda hadn't been such a pest and dragged me into it. I didn't want to do it, at first. Volleyball coaching was my grandpa's job; it's still kinda weird for me to think of myself as a coach.”

“I love coaching,” Momoe said. “I don't know why you wouldn't want to do it, but I'm sure you had a good reason. I practically had to bully my way into the job, and I wouldn't leave it for the world. Still,” she cocked her head and smiled at him, “you don't sound like you hate coaching now.”

“Yeah, well, they're good kids.” Ukai spread his hands. “Don't get me wrong, most of them are a huge pain in the ass, but they're good kids nevertheless.” Momoe laughed loudly at that, causing several heads to turn in their direction, and he grinned back at her.

“Tell me about it,” she said. “Our team captain nearly quit the first day because he didn't want to have a woman coach.” Ukai raised his eyebrows.

“What did you do?”

“I made him some juice and he changed his mind,” she shrugged, but her smile was sharp and Ukai shivered. There was a story he'd be interested in knowing. “Keeping ten fifteen year old boys in line isn't always easy, but like you said, they're good kids.”

“All first years?” Ukai had assumed she'd had a mix of kids like he did. Momoe took a drink and sighed happily.

“Yeah. The school just switched to hardball, so it's a brand-new team. Less experience, but it also means that it's easier for me to mold them into the kind of team I want them to be. The best team possible. The pitcher and catcher have some bad habits they need to unlearn, but you're always going to get that with people who have played before.”

“Yeah,” Ukai said, thinking of Kageyama and Hinata.

“Anyway,” Momoe continued, “Shiga has been really helpful with training strategies. We've got them doing some real unconventional stuff, but it's working.”

“Unconventional?” He'd heard enough stories and rumors to know that 'unconventional' could mean anything from dropping the kids in the middle of nowhere and making them figure the way back home to spa days. Momoe saw the look on his face and grinned.

“Not anything like that,” she said, waving her hand. “Team-bonding stuff, y'know? Training the mind as well as the body, that sort of thing. Baseball's a mental sport as well as a physical one.” Ukai thought this over.

“Sounds interesting. Would you mind sending me a copy of your strategies? 'Unconventional' sounds like exactly what my team needs.” Momoe bit her lip as she thought.

“All right. Volleyball and baseball are different, so I don't know how well they'll work for you, but I also won't have to worry about our strategies being used against us.” They smiled at each other.

“So, um, can I get your email then?” Ukai asked. “You know, so I can send you my address.”

“Sure thing,” Momoe replied. “On one condition.”

“What's that?”

“Next time we meet we talk about more than coaching.”

---

A few days later, a box arrived for Ukai.

“These are those strategies I was telling you about that helped our boys. Hope they work well for you, too!” read a note taped to the first notebook. Ukai picked it up and skimmed through it.

He couldn't wait to try them out.

Ukai: S-So... meditating, huh?
Momoe: Yes, it's worked wonders! This book over here has copies of several studies Shiga-sensei looked at for reference before we planned our sessions, and in this one we've got the different regimens and exercises laid out custom for different players based on their personality types--
Ukai: (don't stare at the boobs. don't do it, Ukai. DON'T DO IT, YOU'rE BETtER THAN tH IS...)
