Bonus Round 4: Quotes

Bonus Round 4: Quotes

A shipping olympics favorite, this round uses quotes of all sorts to fuel your creative endeavors.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on July 21 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - M. Gandhi
    • The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Makoto & Rin). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Makoto/Rin). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your quote-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

FILL: TEAM MIYUKI KAZUYA/MIYUKI KAZUYA, G

[personal profile] catlarks 2016-07-21 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
major tags: none (it's a nebulous AU future)
Word Count: 478

The windowpane is cold against Miyuki's cheek when he presses his face against it, slumped in an armchair in the darkened room. The space between him and the bed is an impossible gulf, greater than anything he wishes to cross but near enough that he can make out the exact shape of Chris' sleeping form, even through the midnight gloom. He can see every line of Chris' resting body.

Chris is a solid shape spread across the mattress, the point of his shoulder standing up beneath the blankets and the slope of his side leading down to the dip of his waist, the edge of his hip, the bump of his knee where the bed sheets cover it. Those sheets are wrinkled on the other side of the bed, mussed up where Miyuki crawled out from beneath them. He can't sleep in this strange house with its unfamiliar quiet. The sound of Chris' slowed breathing is too heavy upon his ears.

Chris had invited him back, and all they'd done is sleep together. Not fuck, sleep, Chris sitting up only long enough to put out the lamp beside the bed before murmuring to Miyuki, "Everyone needs his rest, even you. The morning will bring a new day."

The morning feels an eternity away.

Miyuki could leave, he realizes that much. The front door has a lock that twists from the inside, that Miyuki could pull shut behind him to shut himself out. If he smoothed out the wrinkles in the sheets, it would be as if he were never there at all — no sign of his passing, ephemeral as a ghost.

Miyuki isn't going to leave. He believes in persistence, in the curious way the corners of Chris' mouth move when he's trying not to smile, in what he's staked on starting something today, tonight. The morning will bring a new day, and with it Miyuki's determination to build, to dig in his heels and stand his ground and see what new shapes the dawn's light will illuminate, the angles of Chris' hands and the lines of his face and the light that sometimes, just barely, touches the shadowed amber of his eyes.

Chris is a hard man to reach, too used to being something apart, someone apart. And here Miyuki is, watching him in the dark. It's something private, a moment not meant to be glimpsed by unfamiliar eyes. It feels like a victory, of a sort, but a small, secret one, the sort Miyuki doesn't know how to leverage.

The morning will bring a new day. New days mean new opportunities, and just because Miyuki doesn't know what to make of this now, doesn't mean he can't figure it out. He's clever. And he's never been one to give up.

He pushes up from the armchair, and pads his way back over to the bed.
