What should we call you?
i go by milktea!!

What got you into sports anime?
i think the first sportsani i watched was oofuri, but i stopped a few episodes in for some reason. then i got really into knb (because i saw some wicked fanart, aha) but then after all that hype, i went back to oofuri, and to this day i still think of that anime with fondness (and cries about never getting a s3 but you know). after that, free! was just a hop, step, jump away, and then haikyuu dropped into my life and i've never been able to leave its clutches.

What do you love about your favorite sports anime?
hq is currently my fave just because i'd sell my soul for furudate's character development skills. i love how these kids are actually depicted as kids?? all their silly antics and determination and friendships and it doesn't matter which team wins because we as the audience are always the losers, crying over the 534 volleydorks we accidentally adopted. also the hq ladies??? i love them????
i'm just a sucker for friendships driven by the deep bond that is bALL IS LIFE

Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?
i was going to say free! but like the entire show was just water......tears...... drowning in feels, quite literally.....
i've already talked about hq (i'm always talking about hq) so i'll go with a) karamatsu's moment in the lockerrooms after kaijou lost /mY HEART b) the end of oofuri s2 i think, when abe finally finds some chill and mihashi gathers enough courage to want better communication on the field and that dramatic hug after they lost the game, abe's still on crutches, mihashi's crying as always, i'm sobbing,

Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?
kenma!!!!!! though i'm nowhere near as smart and analytical as he is. yachi and her quiet determination (vILLAGER B CAN FIGHT TOO!) and how very not-straight she is, ahaha. also mihashi, because, in case you haven't picked up on it yet, i'm a very flighty, nervous wreck that just loves friendship so, so much,,

What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?
i find hq was one of my fave fandoms to contribute for, just because the feedback i've received has always been positive and engaging, plus there are so many characters and dynamics to choose from, it's just a lot of fun to me. i really like oofuri aesthetic but it's hard to find content i haven't already devoured, ahaha.

Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?
i check the hq tag regularly, but occasionally i dip back into free! and knb and of course, oofuri, but i think i feel safest in hq.

Lastly, let your fellow SASOers know where they can find you if they want to chat with you!
pls feel free to come yell about character development and dorky sportsani kids with me @puddingcatbae on twitter or tumblr!! this is my first year participating, so i'm really excited (:

HI I think we're on the same team and I'm so excited ahhh! I definitely agree with you, the haikyuu characters are all so well written and developed. I'm always really endeared with their interests outside of volleyball too? Especially all of Ennoshita's movie stuff!

I'm looking forward to chatting more and getting to work with you this summer!

Hey dudes!!

[personal profile] concolor 2017-05-02 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
What should we call you?
I usually go by Bear, Prince, or Usagi!! Or maybe try something else haha, I'm in the market for a new name

What got you into sports anime?
The earliest sports manga I remember is genderbender (or crossdressing??) sports manga like Hana Kimi and Girl Got Game-- which I found at the local library, much to my tiny, weeby delight. Followed by Slam Dunk (thrift store), Hikaru no Go (shonen jump), Prince of Tennis (toonami), and Kuroko's basket(??)!!! There was a period where I didn't really watch sports animes until Free! and Yowa got me back into it haha

What do you love about your favorite sports anime?
I'll focus on Oofuri for this one; I love that the protagonist has an unbelievable amount of anxiety but that despite it all, his team still supports him. They don't make fun of his anxiety/anxious tendencies, instead actively helping him past it (iirc haha, it's been a while!!). It was nice to see, especially at the time

Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?
Definitely oofuri with the anxiety business, it helped me while I was figuring things out, but also most Abe/Rin moments whoops
Also inazuma 11, as outrageous as it is, has such a delightful shonen feeling with how out there it can be it warms my heart

Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?
Wahaha Mihashi Ren and Yuri Katsuki my dudes, they resonate way too strongly with me
//Wait also Makishima and Onoda?? My boys

What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?
In general I find it easy to make Drawn content of most things, but Writing is always an issue with anime for whatever reason??

Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?
I think I consumed the most Free, Haikyuu, and Yowapeda content but Yuri on Ice is getting there. There was just better content for these series over others??

Lastly, let your fellow SASOers know where they can find you if they want to chat with you!
I've got a Twitter, an Art Tumblr, and a discord (Ursa #9161)!!! Hmu if you want

1. What should we call you?

Shannon (they/them)

2. What got you into sports anime?

I watched Free first but it's Yowamushi Pedal that dragged me down into sports anime hell where I stay. And Yuri on Ice has helped keep me there.

3. What do you love about your favorite sports anime?

I love how in Yowapeda literally any character on any team could interact at any given time. There's so many personalities and possible ways they can spin off each other and so much to chew on.

4. Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?
Everything about Yuuri and Victor's relationship in Yuri on Ice.

5. Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?
Last year it was Arakita. I... think it's still Arakita. I'll be reevaluating this as time goes on but he was there for me in a tough spot and I really identified with a lot of his character development.

6. What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?

I draw mostly so as long as it's drawing I do ok! I've watched all of YOI, Free, and Yowapeda. I know a tiny bit about Haikyuu but that's all. I'm not very well versed in the sports animes honestly...! There's still time - I might try to cram in Teppu or Ballroom e Yokoso (definitely watching the anime when it starts) before the SASO starts!

7. Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?

I'll read stuff from series I haven't watched if I'm intrigued enough by the ship/prompt/know enough about it by osmosis! Depends on the fandom tropes.
I'm honestly hoping SASO will kick my butt back into fandom gear. I've been a little distant/passive in my fan content consumption lately.

8. Lastly, let your fellow SASOers know where they can find you if they want to chat with you!

I'm most active on Twitter as @yusukesjeans - my account is locked but feel free to follow!
I have a tumblr (also yusukesjeans) that I don't really do much with anymore, but I'll still link to since my fanart and cosplay tags are archived there (http://yusukesjeans.tumblr.com/about) , and I am on AO3 as yusukesjeans or also thatfruitcake.

What should we call you?
hedge. she/her.

What got you into sports anime?
prince of tennis! and more recently: haikyuu, yowamushi pedal, and daiya no ace.

What do you love about your favorite sports anime?
tezuka's balls killed the dinosaurs.

Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?
the first sports anime moment i've really cried at was because of tezuka kunimitsu. i think i'm still crying.

Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?
no, but one day, i'd like to be as cool as atobe. or at least as cool as atobe thinks he is.

What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?
i really like writing daiya fic, because eijun is comedy goals.

Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?
a lot of action-based stuff. and slice-of-life anime. i actually really like realistic anime, but sports anime is my secret indulgence.

[personal profile] intricacies 2017-05-03 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
What should we call you?
xy/xiaoyi! one is just shorthand for the other so it doesn't matter which you use

What got you into sports anime?
i can't remember if i watched free! first, but probably not as i'm not big on watching anime. everyone around me was really into haikyuu in 2015 and then i got curious. that was my descent into hell

What do you love about your favorite sports anime?
i haven't kept up with haikyuu since aobajohsai's loss, but i really loved furudate's characters and pacing at the time. it felt real that karasuno had so many failures leading up to their matches and furudate gives such distinct yet realistic personalities to so many of the characters that you can't help adoring all of the possible dynamics taking place. as for prince of stride: alternative, i cried really hard when honan won because FOUND FAMILY and CREATING A BOND TOGETHER and all that stuff.

Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?
when iwaizumi cried after aobajohsai lost. when oikawa begrudgingly showed respect to tobio after aobajohsai lost. when makoto implied he was jealous of what rin could do for haru that he himself couldn't. when honan made it to the finish line with victory and saisei were there to cheer them on to the very end. when riku made up with his brother in the last race.

Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?
uh, i don't really have characters i relate-relate to, but if i had to pick one, then tachibana makoto from free

What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?
all of them are difficult

Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?
i don't really consume fan content for sports anime anymore but i used to do it mostly for haikyuu

2. What got you into sports anime?

3. What do you love about your favorite sports anime?
The Power of Friendship™

4. Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?
Yurio realizing his agapé. *places right hand over heart*

5. Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?
Yuri Plisetsky. Kozume Kenma. My type is the bitter cinnamon rolls.

But I love Haikyuu too.

What should we call you?
amanda is just fine!!

What got you into sports anime?
hmmmm well i watched free! as it aired Back In The Day™ and enjoyed it well enough but haikyuu!! and yowapedal are what got me hooked on the genre.

What do you love about your favorite sports anime?
OH GOSH UH. for hq!! it's the animation, the fact that i played volleyball in high school so it's got a very comfortable/nostalgic feel for me, it's absolutely hilarious in the most adorable ways, and the characters are all SO INSANELY WELL WRITTEN i honestly can't get over it (thanks furudate.) for yowapeda it's the crazy quirky characters, the almost horror manga feel to a lot of the "power up" moments and the fucky humor

Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?
hmmmmmMMMMM if i had to choose one......ushijima wakatoshi's backstory.

Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?
oikawa tooru is my sports anime doppleganger.

What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?
i mostly create content for hq!! bc i've found a really nice niche in the fandom (mostly the shiratorizawa and rarepair folks) and have made a lot of close friends that're all ways willing to yell with me. it's "easy" i guess bc i have such a strong support system and an audience i really get along with. i would create more content for yowapedal if i felt like it would be a fraction as well-received as my hq!! content (same with oofuri)

Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?
mostly hq!! right now! also yowapedal and the fate series.

What should we call you?
ling, they/them please

What got you into sports anime?
i think prince of tennis was the first one i watched cause i was playing tennis at the time, but kuroko no basuke was the real gateway into the genre. i don't play any sports anymore, but i really like watching sports anime and thinking that it could totally be me out there, spiking hard enough to require an artsyle change and my own leitmotif let me be oikawa pls

What do you love about your favourite sports anime?
can't really pick a favourite, but the ones i love usually involve a found family component?? like, team sports are all about working together day in, day out and you start to see your teammates as family. contrasted against the actual family situations members are coming from, i get super involved in the dynamics of finding love and affection in your team. is this making sense????? i think some non-team sports anime get that too, like baby steps, gah do i love baby steps

Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?
i just about cried every time tanba came on screen in daiya, his struggle to distinguish himself from manaka by choosing seido and desire to really stand out despite his base shy personality really got me. he's just trying hard to be the ace

Have you found a relatable favourite in a sports anime? Who?
chihaya, weirdly enough. she wants to be the very best, and sometime she loses sight of everything else. also, the whole "beauty in vain" thing as a what-you-see-not-what-you-get deal wherein i, too, am a huge dork once i get started talking.

What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?
not a content creator, gonna try this year though!

Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?
i wanna say everything, but it's more like i enjoy whatever i come across since i don't have the attention span to really direct my focus at one thing for very long

YO ~

[personal profile] jinbeizaki 2017-05-03 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
1. What should we call you?
Shirley / Jinbeizaki as you'd like~

2. What got you into sports anime?
I am into anime since I was born literally due to my older brother so sports anime are no exceptions. I watched old stuff like Captain Tsubasa to new ones like All Out. So if I hadn't watched (read) a sport anime it would surely be because I didn't have time yet to do so.
There aren't many sports anime that I don't like, one of the main reason why I wouldn't love it is if romance or something like this would overwhelm the sport aspect (for instance I disliked Yuri on Ice mainly for that reason, where ice skating is pushed behind relationship and characters instead of being at the center of the show). It was the case for lots of old sports anime also where it ALWAYS had a romance at some point and surely that's why now I can't deal with this aspect.

3. What do you love about your favorite sports anime?
I have lots of favorite sports anime with all kinds of sports, sports that I didn't even know the rules for instance with Daiya no ace and baseball. But that might be one aspect that I love about sports anime is that they make you want to watch sports because you would get the same intense feelings. This is what makes it so different from other genres. For example if you love shonen, not all action movies or series would give you the same feelings than the anime. I don't know if my point is clear but to sum it up: It gives you access to all kinds of sports that you wouldn't have cared about watching before, you wouldn't have been able to understand in one match etc.

That had to be one of the main reason. Another is the feels. A 3rd year graduating is more emotional and heartbreaking than some other animes characters' deaths. The intensity of matches, the want to surpass yourself, the strength of training, the will and desire to win are all kinds of elements that make me love sports anime. But unlike in shonen, you would be able to have funny, relaxing, entertaining moments cause the earth isn't dying it's at the end of the day only sports. The rivals would still be able to hang out together after a match and that's what makes sports anime so likeable.

4. Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?
I guess there would be spoilers obviously so I'll bold the anime before the spoiler to prevent you from reading a spoiler from an anime you hadn't watched yet (though all the animes I'll mention are NECESSARY TO BE WATCHED!)

Free! One of my favorite anime but also maybe one of the hardest on my feels. All I have to say is: Sousuke. This boy is what got me right in the feels. Not only his storyline is so harsh but also cause Kyoani didn't give him justice. They added him as the character that would have to give up on his dream without caring about giving him a proper ending. I really hope the coming movie in fall would be about his new dream (I'll be biased asking for Sou & Mako to be students with Mako spoiling him with happiness). Nonetheless how it went with High Speed movie and his screen time... (Sousuke time on screen < Ending song...) So yeah his storyline was painful cause there was nothing to counter balance this angst feeling about this boy. The most painful moment surely being at the end of ES, when Rin says he would be waiting Sousuke, that moment was so cruel for Sousuke. I might be the only one feeling this but if my best friend were to not see how painful it was to already throw away my dream to begin with and still ask me to not give up only cause they want me I would feel betrayed. Rin not being able to see how painful it is for Sousuke to give up on swimming is harsh on Sousuke who did explain how he felt after his shoulder first gave up on him. What Rin is asking for is for Sousuke to go through that pain again, going to rehab, seeing others passing him while he wouldn't see any progress advancing and all of this so that Rin could have Sousuke with him while Rin didn't even care telling him before that he quitted swimming due to Haru or also that he is not even going to be there for Sousuke since he leaves to Australia again and all that shit? I know Rin and Sousuke's friendship is weird but damn that is really beyond me how Rin could not support Sousuke in finding his new dream, could not let go of that idea that Sousuke could find another dream beyond swimming. I am ranting but really it is to point out how even someone so close to Sousuke like Rin could not give him what he needed at that moment. SO YEAH GIVE JUSTICE TO SOUSUKE!

Daiya no Ace There would be 2 moments. One that everyone would surely agree with: Final during summer competition in 1st season. Let's all agree that this defeat against Inashiro and the consequences of 3rd years student leaving afterwards (making it their last game) are HEARTBREAKING. There is no reason for this beyond sadism from sensei XD Seriously those episodes and that game are impossible for me to re-watch despite I watched the 2 seasons so many times already. I don't even know if I would be able to buy the 4th stage play since it's that game although I had bought the 3 others before. There is something beyond the sadness of another game lost cause you could feel, hell even taste the victory. Even if that game was necessary for some characters' growths (like Eijun and Furuya) it would always be painful to watch although I love Mei, Harada and Inashiro being a rival kind of team with amazing players.

The second point concerns more a character rather than a specific moment and also touches on Act II moments so those of you who don't want to be spoiled should pass this paragraph. It's about Furuya and more generally how lately sensei is showing Furuya's "development". I love Furuya, he is my favorite character and it saddens me so much how we are seeing him struggling. Obviously he would struggle like any other characters, finding difficulties along the way etc. but the specificity of Furuya is that we barely get to know how he feels. We rarely know what he is thinking and this is free for the reader to fill in the blanks on why Furuya is struggling. And this unfortunately leads to all the haters being so hateful about him and his struggles cause we don't know exactly so they disregard it, only celebrating that Eijun would be the ace etc. We got an idea nonetheless of what kinds of troubles/difficulties Furuya is going through thanks to Mei saying how he was in the same mess before, surely finding what "ace" meant (especially since his team is mainly ego centered instead of team plays so being the ace in this sort of team could prove difficult). Furuya had the number 1 since the fall tournament but he knew yet that the coach hadn't fully recognized him as the ace. So he wouldn't think of himself fully as the ace through the tournaments then comes the final and that final inning where the coach is saying that he would leave this to the ace. So Furuya is finally getting the recognition from the coach and he would start thinking fully of himself as the ace, recognized by all the team. And that tittle is something Furuya never had before since he had never been able to play much during his middle school and those past months in Seido were him only thinking about finally playing baseball and not letting down the team. But now he has to be taking responsibility for the games since he is the ace, those questions about what an ace is, the pressure about it would slowly progress within Furuya's mind. Then comes that match against Hongou and that's definitely the turning point since he is facing the ace of the best team -at that time I guess. For Furuya, being the ace of the team means that he is responsible for the team's winning or losing and that loss despite not being only on Furuya's fault (hell even Miyuki realized that they were the ones who failed to score off Hongou and that wasn't only Furuya's fault) but for Furuya this loss was his fault only. He didn't blame the others in the book that the coach read, it was only himself that he blamed and that he needed to become stronger for the team's sake cause he wants to continue to play with them, he doesn't want a loss to stop them from playing together like it happened with the summer tournament with the 3rd years. Since that game against Hongou, Furuya has been struggling surely cause he overthinks instead of simply pitching at full strength to crush the opponents like before. Next to that, we are assisting to Eijun's growth, the same kind of growth that Furuya had near the end of the fall tournament yet back then Eijun wasn't that bad, he was growing, learning how to pitch on the outside and had Chris to help him with the yips. However right now, no one seems to care about Furuya cause they don't know why he is struggling and somehow it even seems like they don't care. For instance when the coach read Furuya's text book or when Furuya tries to run to 3rd base in a game (forgot which one) and the coach is simply arguing with him in front of everyone without caring why he tried to do that (obviously to be useful, to be an ace and guide the team to victory) it makes me so sad and disappointed that not even the coach would try to understand what is going on. Arguing with Furuya, pushing him outside would never be helpful to Furuya (especially when it is not done by hitting his pride like Miyuki would do at the beginning). Furuya needs guidance more than anyone and not to be thrown away again. Unfortunately right now (I have few chapters to catch up) this is more likely what is going to happen, Furuya would be left on the side while Eijun would be pushed on the center as so many fans wished. I know Eijun is the main character and that he is bound to be the ace at some point but the manner it is happening does not give this great manga justice I think. I would want them to compete for ace's position with fairness and during their top conditions, both of them, but this might not happen. So yeah I might be biased and this ranting was unnecessary but this might be one of those hardest/most feels moments currently in Daiya no ace.

I guess my answers are mainly more about characters rather than a specific moment somehow and it ended up in a ranting but oh well... XD

5. Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?
I guess that would be Sousuke from Free! I could appear as someone cold, scary, not friendly to strangers but when they get to know me they end up realizing I am friendly. I also tend to hide my troubles and problems from my family and friends and even close myself from the world when it hits me, not wanting to look out for help from others. This might be why Sou is closer to my personality, we can be teasers too. This is the only relatable favorite I could think about right now.

6. What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?
I am mainly an editor so to make contents for me mainly depends on the series indeed and who do I ship but also imagination. For instance it could be easy for me to make content for let's say Haikyuu, IwaOi because they have lots of interactions but I wouldn't really know what to edit and so it might end up difficult on the imagination aspect rather than the technology one. Whereas if I were to edit with my OTP, SouMako from Free! I would have no troubles with the imagination but it would be extremely difficult and long for me to edit it on the footage aspect as I will need to use masks a lot since their interactions are so rare. So I guess it really depends of many aspects but I would tend to find it easier when I have imagination rather than when I have footage. So Free! would be the easiest to make content since it is where my passion is currently and then any other animes as long as I find the imagination, the idea.

7. Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?
Mainly Free! as I mention before since it is where my OTP is and despite having other OTPs in other shows, I tend to not overwhelm myself from feels and stick to one fandom. Nonetheless I might end up enjoying fan arts, fan fiction, AMVs etc. from other fandom if I end up on it somehow or if my friends mention it etc.

THIS SOUSUKE META IS SO WONDERFUL and I actually 100% agree. This is the main reason that I personally can't really ship SouRin because I can't believe how selfish Rin is sometimes in regards to Sousuke. I mean, he's selfish in similar ways toward Haru about swimming and that's honestly his personality flaw imo, but like...considering that Sousuke is INJURED and Rin expects him to heal and come back like it's easy is...mmmmmm....Rin, no.

I look forward to seeing you around SASO!!!!

Hello Hello!

[personal profile] yrindor 2017-05-04 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
1. What should we call you?
Yrindor or Yrin is fine (the Y is silent)

2. What got you into sports anime?
I think I fell into Yowamushi Pedal first, and then Kuroko no Basuke not long afterward. It started out as just poking around looking for a new anime series to watch, but it didn't take long before all of the other sports spiraled from there.

3. What do you love about your favorite sports anime?
I love training arcs and friendly rivalries in general, and also stage play/musical adaptations of sports anime. I've fallen into more than one sports fandom starting from the musicals (*looks at Prince of Tennis and Cheer Danshi*).

4. Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?
Ooh boy this could be a long list; I'll try to limit it to just the top few:
-The entire Shuutoku vs. Rakuzan match from Kuroko no Basuke
-Fuji's singles matches against Akaya and Niou in Prince of Tennis
-Yukimura's pre-Nationals backstory in Prince of Tennis
-The moment in Cheer Danshi when Kazu finally opens up to Haru about what's going on with his grandmother

5. Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?
Again, this could turn into a long list, but I'll try to keep it contained.
-Fuji Shuusuke, Prince of Tennis
-Kozume Kenma, Haikyuu!!
-Kinjou Shingo, Yowamushi Pedal

6. What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?
Currently I find Prince of Tennis easiest to write for, probably in part because there's just so much canon to draw from. For similar reasons, I struggle with creating content for Dansui, because I feel like I still don't have enough of a grasp of most of the characters from what exists of canon so far. For Haikyuu!!, I love writing for rarepairs and some of my favorites, but I have a hard time with characterization for a lot of the main characters.

7. Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?
I tend to pick fanworks for plot/content over specific fandoms/characters/ships, but that said, I'm always excited to find new content for the smaller fandoms.

8. Lastly, let your fellow SASOers know where they can find you if they want to chat with you!
I'm Yrindor everywhere. I'm most active on twitter, and almost all of my fic is cross-posted to AO3.

What should we call you?
i go by ewa, or hya! I'll answer to either. c:

What got you into sports anime?
Free! then kurobas bc my brother was watching then haikyuu and yowa and daiace happened and then i lost my life and have watched most of the other sportsani

What do you love about your favorite sports anime?
One how dare you make me choose a fave sportsani two how dare you ask me to pick a fave

But as a whole the thing I love most about sportsani is the character development and growth, the way they struggle and push forward, the friends and connections they make, be it friendly or no.

Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?
ALL OF THEM but Free! most of all I wound up writing meta for this ani can u believe it also kick started my descent back into anime hell. Like honestly I did not expect Free! to kick me so hard in the feels I was there for half naked swimming boys and fabulous hair flips and fantastic water animation not Feelings about friendships and dreams and the slow rebuild of lost friendships and learning to be comfortable as you. WHAT REALLY GOT ME WAS THAT ENTIRE AUSTRALIA EPISODE in Free!ES like clobber me in the face with RinHaru won't you like the way Rin smiled and the way he shared with Haru the things he likely never told anyone, the push towards what he wants for Haru and wants Haru to realize for himself, that before anything else, he wants Haru to be happy with the choices he makes.

But also the last scene of S1 where they're running just give me Rin being happy and settled in his skin.

Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?
I--------
(i have been told i bear resemblance to Ryousuke from daiace but also Kuroo from haikyuu personality wise)

What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?
I have shown a tendency to write more haikyuu than anything but that said i've written for kurobas, haikyuu, free, daiace-- I still haven't written anything for yowapeda but i don't really feel a need to they're doing great on their own.

Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?
I am fairly non discriminatory I have read a lot of fic from all of the series I've mentioned already and then some. 8) I just want my faves to be happy but honestly give me a good bokuroo or kuraryou fic I will love you.

Lastly, let your fellow SASOers know where they can find you if they want to chat with you!
I'm on twitter mostly! U can find me on AO3 as ewagan. I promise I don't bite and I will gladly yell with you about (almost all) sportsani

1. What should we call you?

Hi! I'm Shuu / June! I don't mind which one you call me.

2. What got you into sports anime?

Prince of Tennis did! Wow, thanks. I love Prince of Tennis. I watched it with my siblings when I was really young.

3. What do you love about your favorite sports anime?

The characters are so unrealistic I absolutely love it. The characters are all dynamic and good and I love them all. The dynamics between all of the teams, and especially how none of the teams are villainized, and inevitably made human and likable.

4. Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?

When Viktor and Yuuri kiss ... but definitely when Tsukishima blocked Ushijima. ;_;. My son.

5. Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?

Ennoshita Chikara because I too am constantly tired of my friends. But, really, Futakuchi Kenji because I too would fight for my friends despite the fact I savagely roast them all the time.

6. What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?

I find it easy to make content for Haikyuu mostly because I love Datekou! Making content for Yuri On Ice is ... a little hard, though! I love it but it's really hard to make content since I like to write about the side characters.

7. Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?

Prince of Tennis and Kuroko no Basket! I love practically all ships from those.

hi i'm mia! you can call me that or that person who is in love with yoona (because i really really love yoona) or anything you want really. i'm down with anything! (she/her they/them)

2. What got you into sports anime?

i dunno, i was pretty into mainstream stuff (read: still into mainstream stuff) but i got into it back in 2012 when free came out! and i was really really in love with free, and it kind of just spiraled from there into haikyuu, prince of stride, etc. i guess it's primarily the animation? like the art is sooooo pretty and i really love vibrant images and so i kind of just stuck with it.

3. What do you love about your favorite sports anime?

it's always so intense to the point where it's a little comical? i feel like i'm that one image uh lets see if i remember how to put images here
calm down greg its just soccer
success is mine!!!

4. Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?

to this day, i'm still emotional about that scene in free season 2 where makoto told haru he's going to japan like those fireworks, that sadness. it was my everything i cried for like three days after that episode

5. Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?

i am one with yahaba shigeru. he is me i am him we are the same person and he is my love.

6. What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?

i dont know why, but daiya, hands down. i really dont know why and it sucks because i really love daiya, but i cannot for the life of me figure out how to write the characters so i just stick to reading everyone's amazing works

7. Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?

shokugeki no soma. i absolutely love that show it is my number one show and it's probably because for the most part it's super crazy? like a lot of people are put off by it but underneath all of the extra stuff is some legitimate storyline that i absolutely adore.

Cakes or Tobi is fine!! I like she/her.

What got you into sports anime?
I’m not sure, I came into the YowaPeda fandom for the unique character designs and stayed for the emotional rollercoaster. I’ve also watched Haikyuu, Free!, Yuri on Ice, and Love Live because my friends watched me to join group cosplays for them (I still cosplay Sugawara, Nitori, and Umi lol) - also stayed for the tears. It’s hard for me to explain it but I think there’s something in sports anime that you can’t get in a lot of other genres…it makes your heart swell with the power of FRIENDSHIP..maybe..

What do you love about your favorite sports anime?
I love everything about YowaPeda bury me in YowaPeda y’all. I love the character designs, the feeling of uncertainty, the relationships between the characters…I also love the fandom and the great variation of character interpretation.

Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?

I don’t want to live on this planet anymore

Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?
I find Teshima and Arakita all relatable in the way they struggle with self-hatred and keep trying and trying to improve, but still have their slip ups. They struggle in a very real way for me, I guess lol

I also super love Nico and relate to her very personally. She works really hard for herself and her family, she doesn’t have the benefit of coming from a wealthy family or having the conventional “idol” look…so same reason about LMAO

What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?
Free! I don’t even know why, lol. I guess because there's only one ship I like.

Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?
YowaPeda, again. Lol. I love everything character and just about all the ships, that makes it pretty easy to find content.

What got you into sports anime?
Maybe I like to read about passion because I have none of my own. :') I can't remember my first series, but it was probably tenipuri, which I was into for the seiyuu and their antics on the radio show (also: akutagawa jirou). I started reading haikyuu because everyone looked like a cute elf, and stayed because everyone was actually a cute elf with a secret jhorror murder face. Also remember that one chapter where Kageyama just laid awake in bed brooding about Oikawa? it's fine

What do you love about your favorite sports anime?
any themes of humans needing each other to actualise their own potential--that you can't play a game without an opponent, and so striving toward perfection necessitates a worthy rival. It's a bit more selfish than a straightforward For The Team feel, I guess, which makes it more relatable to me.

Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?
That panel where Touya Meijin sat alone facing the goban in the middle of the night, waiting for a rival that could never come. The chapter where Onoda and Midousuji race to the market. "No one scares me more than Oikawa-san."

Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?
it's me, kenma,

What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?
There's nothing in particular? With art it doesn't matter, it's all like pulling teeth until it's not. Ficwise I do best with prompts that force me to write my way out of a specific situation (eg someone's trapped in an airlock and the timer's counting down) vs vague impressionistic stuff. There's no poem in my heart but I do love to solve a puzzle.

Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?
I latch on to an otp in every series, then read everything that exists for that otp. Presently I'm only reading FFXV fic, though. Crying is a sport, right

Fox!

What got you into sports anime?

Aha, once upon a time, Dear Boys started showing on tv and that was pretty much it. It moved from there to Slam Dunk and Oofuri (godddd, I'm still waiting for the next season of Oofuri), and then I moved on to other things until university, at which point my housemate dragged me kicking and screaming into Kuroko no Basuke, Haikyuu, Free! and most recently, Yuri!! on Ice. I didn't really get involved in fandom until Kurobas (and the second round of watching Oofuri), but I think YOI is probably the worst I've ever been invested in a sports anime, ever i love it with all my black heart.

What do you love about your favorite sports anime?

I'm a sucker for character development, and for seeing characters get torn down and built back up again. I really love the high-lows of sports anime, and tbh I'm also horrendously competitive you know, so I get really invested in seeing my favourites win all the things.

Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?

Oh my GOD, Yuri on Ice. It's just. It's not even funny how many feelings I have for this dumb show.

Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?

Probably Abe Takaya from Oofuri. He's easily annoyed and stubborn and a perfectionist and the mother bear of the team, all of which I am or have been at some point in my life.

What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?

I'm alright as long as I can get into a character's headspace? There isn't really a specific series I find difficult, more like specific characters- if I don't like them generally I find it hard to write them.

Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?

I've been on a YOI binge most recently, but I still occasionally read Oofuri and Haikyuu!

What should we call you? Headfangs is fine but I usually go by Lurk online ✌️

What got you into sports anime? It's what my friends were watching back in 2003-ish when I was still watching Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist and other action-oriented series. I bought a helluva lot of Initial D soundtracks and used to have a driver's license for the arcade game, despite only ever seeing like four episodes. I also somehow suffered through the long and action-less first few episodes of Prince of Tennis and I've been stuck there ever since.

What do you love about your favorite sports anime? Firstly that Tenipuri is so centered on characters that you forget the absolute nonsense that's happening on screen at any given moment. I also like that it's clearly stopped taking itself seriously at all, and that I no longer even have to pretend to understand the rules tennis, since it's all magic and skeleton pirates.

Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels? Like every AMV-worthy golden pair moment tbh, but especially when they used synchro for the first time in the manga (and later in the anime). And then Eiji ending that match the way he did... punched me directly in the heart and finished me off for good.

Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who? Davide is #relatable because he tells terrible jokes, and he and I share a birthday. But for whatever reason I've attached myself to Oishi, with whom I don't share many traits at all (besides aquarium-keeping and undercuts...)

What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why? Lately I only really make content for Prince of Tennis ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It's really the only anime I regularly keep up on nowadays, because I'm old.

Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why? I LOVE Tenipuri fanart and following artists on twitter, but I gotta admit I don't read as much fanfic as I used to, only art. :( My attention span is terrible.

I think the first sports anime I read was 'Hikaru no Go'. I loved everyone and their enthusiasm for Go and the rivalries and pushing each other to become better. It was all fun and games until I got wrecked by Sai... ha ha ha. My memory's really fuzzy on it, so I should reread it sometime, but I'm really soft on it... My impression of it is very pastels, unlike in recent times where my memories of sports animes come with sharp focus and blood spatters and oh god stop typing

What do you love about your favorite sports anime?

I don't know if I have a favourite sports anime per se but what I like in all of them is the character development, the relationships, the rivalries, the passion for the sport. But shout out to Chihayafuru for introducing me to beautiful Japanese poetry and also good enjoyable poetry recital ASMR, I guess. I like to learn a new thing and I loved falling in love with karuta with Chihaya and her pals!!

Which sports anime moment got you right in the feels?

Shinobu crushing the Snowmaru daifuku because Chihaya stood her up at the Queen Matches that year. Shinobu's grandmother drawing on the tatami mat with marker so Shinobu could practice better. Shinobu's grandmother telling her, 'You are young, talented, and beautiful. If you can't become a professional Karuta player, who can?' Everything about Wakamiya Shinobu, really. Hikaru saying, 'I should have let him play all the games,', and also later when he cried in front of Isumi-san when they had their rematch. Teshima trying, and trying, and yet. 'It's meaningless without you.'

Have you found a relatable favorite in a sports anime? Who?

Maybe Isumi-san because I, too, would disappear to another country for ages just to figure out what I'm doing with my life,

What series do you find it difficult/easy to make content for? Why?

I don't find anything particlarly smooth-going and I'm constantly screaming internally whilst I write/make photo edits - but a good kind of screaming. I'm screaming whilst having fun.

Really, the only thing I had no trouble with was this comedy sousuke/pyunsuke thing, but that's because it was just a shitpost, and those aren't challenging.

Similarly, what series do you like to consume content from? Why?

I read anything as long as it's tagged properly and I have the mood for it. As long as it has characters I like in it, and it seems interesting, and the writing is decent, I'm fine!
