Bonus Round 1: AUs

AUs

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM EDT on 10 June. Late comments are screened and will not receive points.

This popular round is back once again! To begin this year's SASO, we encourage you to let your mind run wild with alternate ideas and settings.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with an alternate universe idea, along with a ship from one of our nominated fandoms. There's a comment template below for your convenience.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Izumi & Sakaeguchi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Izumi/Sakaeguchi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • An AU can be a canon divergence, e.g. "what if [character] was the Team Captain instead of the canon captain character?", or a completely different setting altogether, e.g., pop idol AU, coffee shop AU, superheroes AU, etc.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post).

When the raft first comes into view, Fuji thinks he's seeing the mast of a ship far off in the distance. Then his perspective shifts, and he realizes the vessel is far smaller than he had thought, a cobbled together affair barely large enough for the one person on board. There's a makeshift sail attached to the mast, but it hangs limp in the dead waters surrounding Fuji's rock. Instead, the lone passenger is paddling frantically, somehow managing to keep the raft moving.

Fuji takes a breath and begins to sing. For once, he finds himself wondering what words to shape; the usual temptations of wealth, or beauty, or power don't feel like they will draw the boy from his berth.

He looks again at the battered vessel, and at the bruises and scrapes littering the boy's skin, and starts with companionship, weaving together a picture of the friends that could await the boy, if only he would step off of his raft.

The boy looks up, and wonder and wariness war across his features. Fuji watches carefully, adding and dropping threads from his song until the boy perched at the very edge of the water.

But unlike anyone Fuji has ever seen before, the boy isn't looking across the sea to where Fuji has built his illusion; he's looking directly at him as if he can see right through the false dream. And so Fuji adds one last piece to the his song—a personal note inviting the boy to join him.

Eiji doesn't look away as he offers himself to the waves.

Fuji dives into the water after him, streaking towards the spot where Eiji's head vanished below the surface. His talons close around the boy's torso, dragging him deeper, and for once, he doesn't want to carry through.

He's never felt this hesitation before; normally he feels no guilt as he drowns his victims. He'll wait for the moment when the illusion shatters and the lust in his victim's eyes turns to fear, and then he'll look at them with his yellow hawk eyes and close his talons even more tightly around them as they struggle. He thinks very little of anyone who so quickly abandons their ship and their fellow crew for personal gain.

Eiji is different though. He hasn't abandoned anyone, and he wasn't immediately enraptured by Fuji's song. Fuji doesn't want to drown him, but at the same time, he doesn't want to die himself, and he will, should someone survive after hearing his song.

It takes him mere seconds to come up with a potentially viable plan; he only hopes that fate will smile in his favor, and that the boy will forgive him later. He dives down, dragging the boy with him, and then he waits. Eiji seems to have accepted his fate, and he barely struggles even as he runs out of air, until finally, the need to breathe is too strong and he inhales water. He chokes and thrashes reflexively, but Fuji keeps hold until he falls limp.

Fuji waits for as long as he dares before driving back to the surface. He hopes it will be enough to satisfy the gods.

He drags Eiji out of the water and onto his rock, and to his relief, it isn't long before Eiji stirs and starts coughing up the water that had nearly drowned him.

When the coughing fit finally passes, it's Eiji who speaks first. "You didn't drown me," he says, inspecting his hands as if he still doesn't fully believe himself.

"You intrigued me."

"You intrigue me too," Eiji replies, and when his eyes meet Fuji's yellow ones, Fuji decides that maybe there is some slight hope after all that he hasn't made a horrible mistake.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Fuji is by far my favorite TeniPuri character, and I love his understated terrifying side, so this was fun to write (plus I'm weak to mythology AUs in general).
