Bonus Round 1: AUs

AUs

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM EDT on 10 June. Late comments are screened and will not receive points.

This popular round is back once again! To begin this year's SASO, we encourage you to let your mind run wild with alternate ideas and settings.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with an alternate universe idea, along with a ship from one of our nominated fandoms. There's a comment template below for your convenience.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Izumi & Sakaeguchi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Izumi/Sakaeguchi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • An AU can be a canon divergence, e.g. "what if [character] was the Team Captain instead of the canon captain character?", or a completely different setting altogether, e.g., pop idol AU, coffee shop AU, superheroes AU, etc.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post).

Inui set down the oversized tome with an audible thud and sneezed at the cloud of dust that rose from it. He wondered who had been left in charge of the Archives. If it hadn't carried such a high risk of being cursed (82% by his calculations), he would have made a mental note to find said person and complain about the state of the space. He would never have allowed his books to end up in such a sad and dusty state. His were spotless, aside from the smudges, burns, and spots of unknown origin that happened to anything in a conjuring workroom of any sort.

Biting back another sneeze, he flipped through the pages until he found the diagrams he was looking for. He didn't really need them; he had cast this particular summoning before, and he still had the detailed notes in his own papers (after several years they should have drifted down to the bottom of the piles, but they still sat on the very top, almost as if they were returned to frequently—not that Inui would ever admit to such a thing). But he wanted to double-check the original, to figure out where he had gone wrong before.

Several hours later, he still hadn't found his mistake. He knew there had to be one though; after all, there was no other possible explanation for why the demon he had summoned would have worked with him for months before suddenly vanishing without a trace one afternoon. Inui was putting the finishing touches on his encyclopedic compendium of demonology, and he desperately needed the demon who had taught him so much to come back and answer a few more questions.

He was even more meticulous than usual when he drew his summoning circle that night, checking and double-checking every angle against the diagrams and measuring every line at least twice. Everything had to be perfect; he needed the summoning to work.

And at first, it seemed as if it had. The clouds of smoke began billowing up from the center of his circle as they always did, and the room slowly filled with the smell of sulfur.

Then flickers of hellfire started lapping at his barriers, and he knew something had gone wrong. Yanagi had never been the hellfire sort, and while it had been several years (four years, two months, and fifteen days to be precise), Inui didn't imagine that had changed.

He couldn't break the spell midway though, so he waited only slightly uneasily to see what he had summoned instead, jotting down copious notes as he went. The hellfire grew brighter and brighter until the entire summoning circle was filled with a thick cloud of black smoke and red flame, and the first sign of the demon materializing in the center of it was an ungodly screech that Inui wished he could unhear.

The demonic tongues had never been his strength even at the best of times, and an angry demon cursing at him definitely didn't count as the best of times, but from what Inui could gather, this particular demon not only knew Yanagi, he also had a bone of his own to pick with him.

It hadn't been his original plan, but Inui thought he might be able to work the summoning in his favor anyway. And even if this demon—Kirihara if he had understood the garbled syllables correctly—couldn't lead him to Yanagi, he had already filled a half dozen pages with new observations to add to his encyclopedia.

"Kirihara," he said, struggling to shape the words of the demon tongue with a mouth never designed to make those sounds, "I'd like to make a deal."

FUCKING SCREAM. OF COURSE YANAGI IS A DEMON. OF COURSE INUI WAS TRYING TO SUMMON HIM.

AND OF FUCKING COURSE KIRIHARA CURSES AT HIS SUMMONER.

an angry demon cursing at him definitely didn't count as the best of times

That line wins so hard. Also the one about HELLFIRE. Yeah, Yanagi is way too understatedt to go for that but KIRIHARA WILL BRING THE DRAMA.

Seriously though, the little comic lines here absolutely MAKE this fill. So perf, so funny so good. XD

Heh, yep, Kirihara is THE MOST DRAMATIC DEMON (much to Inui's surprise, since his prior experience is mainly with Yanagi). I'm glad you liked it!
