Bonus Round 1: Memory

Bonus Round 1: Memory

Let's start our summer by looking at the past—things that happened in canon, or maybe in an AU, or maybe just as wishful thinking...

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on June 9 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post! You prompt should consist of one scenario beginning with the phrase "Remember when", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from our list of nominated fandoms.
    • Your prompts can take the form of recalling canon facts/events ("Remember when Nozomi and Eli got parfaits after school?"), non-canon events ("Remember when Megumi and Jin met at the Tadokoro Family Reunion?"), or somewhere in-between ("Remember when Bokuto and Kenma first met?"). Headcanons and AUs are welcome!
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Rei & Nagisa). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Rei/Nagisa). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Post fills by leaving a responding comment to a prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Bonus round shenanigans all happen in the comments below. Brand-new works only, please.

    Required Work Minimums:
    • 400 words (prose)
    • 400px by 400px (art)
    • 14 lines (poetry)

Format your comment in one of the following ways:

    • Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team you belong to, including Grandstand or Sports Teams
    • Place the prompt's relationship in the first bolded line of the comment. Including the canon isn't required, but it's nice.
    • Below that, place applicable major content tags (when applicable; otherwise write "no tags" or "none")
    • Visual example
    • Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team you belong to
    • Replace RATING with the rating of your fill (G - E)

These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

    For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
    Fills 4-10: 10 points each
    Fills 11-20: 5 points each
    Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

I wished I had more time to be able to do all the fills I wanna do but I HAD TO DO THAT ONE! My precious rare OTP <3 It's not as sexual as I wished this was, actually it doesn't even seem romantic but well with Hongou... XD I hope you'll still like it!

Word count: 1,055

Making it to the U-19 National Team was obvious for Masamune. He had made it to nationals and won more than any other teams in the entire nation. Of course the ace pitcher of that team would be on the Samurai team. What Masamune couldn’t understand yet was the reason why out of all the other players in Japan, this guy had to be the one he shared his room with?

Furuya Satoru.

Damn, who was the idiot in charge of the rooms’ distribution? Who in their right mind would put those two together? Actually who would put him with anyone? Masamune would have preferred to have a room for himself if he had the chance. He wasn’t good at talking and thankfully it was the same case for Furuya. That guy had been reading books or sleeping for most of the times they had shared the room together while Masamune was either listening to music or playing video games.

He was fine with ignoring that guy, pretending he was all alone in their room for the next weeks of training. Besides, it was easy to forget about Furuya’s presence when he was this silent. Maybe it wasn’t that bad he had to share the room with him instead of that other loud pitcher?

“You like polar bears?”

But then it seemed like his hope for silence was quickly shattered as grey pupils stared no longer at the book but at him. Masamune had been taken aback by the question. What did polar bears have anything to do with baseball or them?

“You’ve been staring for a while at my book so I was wondering if it was because you liked polar bears too,” Furuya explained as he showed the cover of the book to the other. It really was about those animals. Actually, wasn’t it an illustration book?

“I don’t dislike them,” Masamune replied hoping that this would be all of their little chat for today. However it seemed like a bad move as Furuya looked at him with more interest. Damn, he should have just said he hated them.

“I have other books if you want.” Masamune looked in horror as the other pitcher went through his suitcase to show him his collection. Had this guy even taken any clothes in his suitcase? There seemed to be only like 4 or 5 huge books in it.

“Guess city boys have it easy. They could return home if they forgot anything.” The mere fact Furuya lived in Tokyo and could return to his place was irritating him. He couldn’t just return to Hokkaido until their training was done which meant few weeks. Masamune showed his back to the other as he tried to focus back on his game. He had been stuck on this level for few days already.

“You miss Hokkaido?”

Damn, this guy really wanted to talk tonight didn’t he? Wasn’t he exhausted after their practice? Furuya still had the books in his hands looking at the cover with a small smile. The piercing, cold, blue eyes glared at him before he turned around again and sat up on the bed. Fuck his quiet and peaceful time. Since their first real meeting in Koshien during their second year, they hadn’t exchanged more than 3 words.

“Shouldn’t you be the one missing it?” Masamune retorted as he was now focused on their conversation, his console shut closed. Furuya had been the one that abandoned their hometown, leaving before they even had the occasion to settle who the best pitcher was during middle school. Even if it was obvious for him that he was the best, he hated having to wait until his second year of high school to be able to show this to the rest of the world.

“I return there for the holidays to see my parents,” Furuya replied after a while which only fed Masamune’s frustrations.

“You even abandoned your family there?” He couldn’t believe how selfish and pretentious that boy was to leave even his parents in Hokkaido just to join a stupid baseball club in Tokyo. There was no way Masamune would recognize this guy as his kind. He hadn’t moved to an easier place. No, he had fought against the weather, those stupid coaches, and those idiots who thought there were no good players in the harsh North landscape, and he had become the best pitcher of his generation. To know that he would wear the ace number during their official games was enough for him to show who had been right between these two different paths.

“They agreed with my choice and I had my grandfather living in Tokyo.” The moment Furuya said those words, Masamune couldn’t help stopping his current stream of thoughts. ‘Had’ huh? The way he had said this was sufficient for him to catch what it meant. Despite being rivals, there were boundaries Masamune wouldn’t go beyond and this was one of them.

“Sorry,” Masamune mumbled, the word seemed sincere but unusual in his mouth. It left a sad smile on Furuya’s face before he looked back at the polar bears on the cover.

“It occurred during our last year of high school.”

And these words were able to explain all Masamune’s questions about Furuya not pitching in their last game, actually the fact that he wasn’t in the roster had disturbed him greatly. Since then he had thought the grey eyed pitcher was just weak for not even making it, but now he understood. He wouldn’t apologize for what he thought that day though. Indeed, he had been disappointed to not get another chance against that guy that he might have cursed Furuya. Renji had to deal with his frustration throughout the game against Seido which led to a much more complicated match than their previous one.

“I see,” Masamune mumbled before silence filled the room once more. They weren’t good at talking really, but this exchange was enough to ease a bit of Masamune’s hatred. He wasn’t understanding Furuya fully yet nor was he accepting that guy’s choice to leave Hokkaido. However, just for a moment, they had been able to get slightly closer. And who knows, maybe by the end of their training together they would be able to have a bit more of those precious moments.

YES EXACTLY! Furuya has no idea that Masamune had heard of him during middle school AZUEYAZVY I wish there was more really.

Hopefully we will see more of Masamune in the manga and HonFuru interactions too so that people would notice how much potential this ship has yes AZSDFUZAYEVUZAYV
