Bonus Round 1: Memory

Bonus Round 1: Memory

Let's start our summer by looking at the past—things that happened in canon, or maybe in an AU, or maybe just as wishful thinking...

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on June 9 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post! You prompt should consist of one scenario beginning with the phrase "Remember when", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from our list of nominated fandoms.
    • Your prompts can take the form of recalling canon facts/events ("Remember when Nozomi and Eli got parfaits after school?"), non-canon events ("Remember when Megumi and Jin met at the Tadokoro Family Reunion?"), or somewhere in-between ("Remember when Bokuto and Kenma first met?"). Headcanons and AUs are welcome!
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Rei & Nagisa). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Rei/Nagisa). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Post fills by leaving a responding comment to a prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

    SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

    For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
    Fills 4-10: 10 points each
    Fills 11-20: 5 points each
    Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

    Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

Have a question? Check The FAQ first. If you still need help, feel free to contact the mods. Happy fanworking!

Author's Note: I'm sorry; I really didn't mean for it to be quite this angsty, but Toudou had other ideas.

He felt familiar fingers brushing across his face. They teased him, and he turned towards them, feeling the familiar brush of lips across his. "Maki-chan," he murmured, reaching out and twining his fingers through familiar, silky hair. He pulled Makishima into a kiss…and jolted awake as his lips met the cold cotton of his sheets.

He froze as his heart pounded in his chest. It was the same every night. Every night, he dreamt of Makishima in bed next to him, and every night, when he went to return the gesture, he woke up alone. Alone in the queen bed that had been bought with Maki-chan's long legs in mind. Alone in the apartment that they had rented together. Alone when he should have never been alone again.

"Maki-chan," he cried, no longer a contented whisper but a broken sound that choked him as it tore out of his throat. "Maki-chan!" He ripped his hand free of the sheets and slammed them back down onto the bed.

It shouldn't have been like this. Makishima should have been in bed beside him. Would have been if it hadn't been for the awful accident the week after they had moved in together. He had been stuck working, but Makishima had ridden joyously to the top of the nearest mountain, had sent him pictures of the view from the peak. And on the way back, had called while Toudou was on his break.

Toudou knew that horrible moment would be forever seared in his memory. The harsh screech of tires that interrupted Makishima's excited descriptions. The grating crunch of metal slamming into metal. Maki-chan's cut-off scream. The sudden silence as the line went dead.

And then the interminable hours of waiting, of pacing and phone calls and hoping against all hope that somehow it was all just a terrible mistake. And finally, late that night, the broken call from Ren telling him Makishima was dead, killed when a truck driver lost control on the mountain road. His Maki-chan would never be coming back again.

In the span of only a few hours, the apartment that had been so bright and promising was transformed into a painful reminder of everything that never would be. His footsteps echoed too loudly through the empty rooms, and everywhere he looked, he saw the half-finished reminders of a life abruptly cut off far too soon. The hair dye on the bathroom counter waiting to touch up Maki-chan's highlights. The half-finished grocery list in the kitchen. The clothes that had been hung up to dry but never taken back down. All of the incomplete tasks that would never be finished.

But every night, Makishima came back to him in his dreams, and for those few fleeting moments, he could almost believe Maki-chan was back beside him. Until he reached out and the illusion shattered in his grasp, leaving him alone in the dark in the too-large bed.

He struck angrily at the mattress, yelling Maki-chan's name until he was hoarse. Then he collapsed onto the bed, curling into a ball and sobbing brokenly until he finally fell back into a restless sleep, tears leaving salt tracks down his cheeks as they dried with no one to wipe them away.
