Bonus Round 2: Images

Bonus Round 2: Images

Back by popular demand, this round uses official canon artwork as fodder for speculation and extrapolation.
Please read the rules carefully before posting!

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on June 23 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

  • Submit prompts in the form of a canon screencap from one of our nominated fandoms along with a ship. Screencaps can be from the anime or manga, as well as any other kind of offshoot media, e.g. official art, drama CD covers, light novel illustrations, magazine covers, photos from stage plays, and/or caps from games.
    • Doujinshi, fan-made games or any other fan-created work should not be prompted, even if you receive permission. Only prompt official, canon artwork.
    • Keep your prompt concise. Don't prompt a whole manga chapter, for example.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Abe & Tajima). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Abe/Tajima). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
    • Upload the cap somewhere (imgur works well) and post here with the images themselves or a link to them. Including a text-only summary of the image is encouraged.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work inspired by the cap.
    • Fills can be directly connected to the cap, e.g. panel redraws or writing fic that fleshes out the moment that was capped or that fleshes out what happened directly before/after, but fills can also be more indirectly linked. As long as the work is somehow inspired by the cap, it counts.
    • Fills that are too long to fit in a single comment should have the rest of the fill placed as replies to the original fill comment. The subjects of these extra comments should be something like "part 2 of X" or "continued."
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Bonus round shenanigans all happen in the comments below. Brand-new works only, please.

Required Work Minimums:
  • 400 words (prose)
  • 400px by 400px (art)
  • 14 lines (poetry)
There is no max work cap.

Format your comment in one of the following ways:

  • Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team you belong to, including Grandstand or Sports Teams
  • Place the prompt's relationship in the first bolded line of the comment. Including the canon isn't required, but it's nice.
  • Below that, place applicable major content tags (when applicable; otherwise write "no tags" or "none")
  • Visual example
  • Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team you belong to
  • Replace RATING with the rating of your fill (G - E)
  • Place applicable major content tags and word count before your fill (when applicable)
  • NSFW FILLS: Please cross-link these fills and use clear tags in your comment. Written/text fills should be hosted at AO3 ONLY as a new, unchaptered work. Art/visual fills can be hosted anywhere. You may include a small safe-for-work preview of the fill in your comment.
  • To place an image in your comment, use this code: <img src="LINK TO YOUR IMAGE" alt="DESCRIPTION OF YOUR IMAGE"/>
  • Visual example
  • Replace RATING with the rating of your fill, G - E, as explained in the rules
  • Place applicable major content tags and word count before the fill, where applicable
  • NSFW FILLS: Please cross-link these fills and use clear tags in your comment. Written/text fills should be hosted at AO3 ONLY as a new, unchaptered work. Art/visual fills can be hosted anywhere. You may include a small safe-for-work preview of your work in your comment.
  • To place an image in your comment, use this code: <img src="LINK TO YOUR IMAGE" />
  • Visual example

Posts not using this format will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, regardless of what they contain. They, like all comments in this community, are subject to the code of conduct.

These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

no major warnings apply

so this is basically just 1k of kuraryou pda //sweats

Word Count: 998

i. isashiki

They’re talking smack in the dorms one night, Kuramochi slinging the game controller high over his shoulder, and Ryousuke’s arm is getting tired where he’s leaning on it. He lets it slide down, curling naturally around Kuramochi’s waist, and he settles into his junior’s side with all the confidence of a good senior.

Kuramochi, for his own part, is an excellent junior. He shuffles along and slings an arm over Ryousuke, thumbing at the controller from behind him.

Ryousuke doesn’t turn around, but he can almost feel the wind pressure from Isashiki’s jabbing thrusts.

“Guys, are you seeing this?”

Distracted murmurs from the rest of the group. Kuramochi yells something obscene, having fallen behind in the race, and Isashiki’s whines of frustration are cut off completely when Sawamura’s character has the audacity to gun down Miyuki.

ii. eijun

It’s safe to say that while Sawamura is easy to predict, he’s never expected. Ryousuke’s eyes slide over him when the first years play the second string, but Sawamura refuses to be ignored, clambering up to become more than Haruichi’s friend, more than that other first year pitcher. Kuramochi likes him. They’re both honest, hard workers.

The rustle of clothes shakes Ryousuke from his thoughts. Kuramochi slams into him, clutching his shoulders. It’s a long hit on the field, a chance to score, and Kuramochi is at his back the whole time, pressing him against the dugout wall. Kuramochi’s hands are warm, his stomach hard when he shouts. When the runner makes home, he slumps against Ryousuke, heavy and almost relaxing, and Ryousuke steels himself in kind, keeping his back arched under the added weight.

“YES!” Sawamura barrels into them, knocking Kuramochi to the side. He grabs them both in a tight hug, euphoric, stomping like they’ve won already. Kuramochi pushes back, growling good-naturedly, and Ryousuke straightens. The wind is cold on his spine.

iii. kazuya

He doesn’t think much of it, the third time. They’re the only ones left in the change rooms, and Ryousuke’s tired from practice. He slides his shirt off slow, stretching out the burn in his muscles, while Kuramochi waits for him nearby.

The words fall easily from his lips. “C’mere.”

It’s startling, how fast Kuramochi snaps to attention. He bounces over, hovering behind Ryousuke with a sort of concerned anticipation, and Ryousuke drops his shirt, raising his arms high. Kuramochi’s face is just there when Ryousuke tilts his head up to the ceiling. He looks different from this angle, shadowed features dark and hard to make out.

Ryousuke keeps his arms up - for what, exactly, he isn’t completely sure, but it’s a good stretch in any case - and after a few seconds Kuramochi tentatively grips his wrists. He pulls, long and hard, and Ryousuke feels the stretch down to his toes. Oh, he thinks, mouth falling open. That’s what for.

The door opens. Miyuki glances at them. His eyes flick down to Ryousuke’s bare chest, to Kuramochi behind him.

He smirks.

“Hm,” he says, far too cheeky for a junior, and closes the door again.

iv. furuya

Ryousuke knows what he’s doing. Kuramochi, probably, doesn’t. He puts Sawamura in headlocks by instinct, tangles his arms all over his roommates as a matter of course. Ryousuke doesn’t begrudge him that. They’re baseball players, after all, well-accustomed to the grit of dirt in their eyes and the humid air in the dugout. It’s a physical sport, rough all over, and Kuramochi exemplifies one of those steeped in its tradition.

He has his leg up, a plate of rice in his hands, and he’s chewing on each bite like it’ll be his last. Ryousuke watches his cheeks puff out, his chin jut out when he swallows. He can’t resist leaning over in the hopes of snagging a bite.

He’s not expecting Kuramochi’s arm to snake out, dragging him onto his lap. Kuramochi tucks him in, shoves a spoonful of rice into his face, and continues eating like nothing’s different. His breaths are soft and slow on Ryousuke’s back, his heartbeat edging slow into Ryousuke’s collarbone.

Haruichi blushes easier, but not even Ryousuke can stay completely calm under the circumstances. He turns his head, avoiding Miyuki’s sidelong glance and Sawamura’s open stare.

Beside them, Furuya’s eyes furrow, like he’s trying to understand this new development. Ryousuke can deal with confusion. He looks back steadily, tamping down the quiver in his stomach.

Then Furuya smirks, an incredibly familiar expression. “Hm,” he says, and Ryousuke makes a note to kill Miyuki the next time he sees him in private.

v. haruichi

They’re walking home after practice, Kuramochi lifting a bag over his shoulder, and Ryousuke’s struck all over again with how beautiful he is. The blossoms are dancing on the wind around them, the sky’s reflection embedded in the puddles at their feet. Ryousuke catches Kuramochi’s eyes inadvertently, or Kuramochi catches his, and they’re both caught off-guard by it.

Kuramochi lets the bags fall from his arms; Ryousuke tightens his grip on his. It’s only too easy to step into Kuramochi’s arms, let the world fall away until his vision’s full of stiff brown hair and sharp-edged eyes.

Ryousuke looks up, snags Kuramochi’s open jaw. “That’s me,” he agrees easily, and drags him down, thinking, finally.

He remembers Haruichi too late. When they break apart, his brother’s bright red, shuffling on his feet. Ryousuke opens his mouth, but Haruichi squeaks, drops his bat. He stutters out a string of unintelligible words and flees, hopefully somewhere other than Sawamura or Furuya, both of whom have become intolerable over the past week.

His own face is hot when he looks back to Kuramochi, who’s still holding him tight, as if afraid Ryousuke will run like Haruichi if he lets go. He’s warm, and steady, and his heart strong like the satisfying clunk of a solid run gained.

Ryousuke doesn’t want to run from this.

Ohhhhhh my gosh, I adore this. (and I can't wait for Mel to yell when she reads it because she's the OP and ohhh, she will yell.)

I love your scene-setting and your pacing, everything feels deliberate and measured and I can see what's happening vividly in my head, coupled with the nice steady build of this thing that's growing between Kuramochi and Ryousuke. THE TENSION IS SO GOOD and your characterization is spot on, even for the "minor" characters (Jun's yelling! Miyuki's knowing little look! FURUYA'S RESPONSE IN PARTICULAR, ohhhhh I was so happy to see his senpai rubbing off on him.) I really adore your writing style and I love this kind of easy physical intimacy so this fic is such a gift.

(i was so excited I actually wrote this out on my phone because /I need to say something, right now/ I'm so so fond of this.)

asjds;lf; thank you so much for the kind words! It's such a relief to know that the characterisation worked for you because I've really only consumed the main manga story in Daiya as a read-through from way back, so I don't think I have a full grasp on them yet >.< This comment made me smile so much - thank you!!

"1k of kuraryou pda" yes thank you kfjsklelse

i really love how this whole thing just kind of builds without either of them really pushing at it, that ryousuke notices before kuramochi does but maybe isn't entirely sure what to do with it, and the little bit about kuramochi perking up immediately when ryousuke calls for him ffjskdalse he just loves ryou-san so much ;;;;

thank you this is lovely and i looooove when they just slot together like this, without intentionality, they just fit together
