Bonus Round 4: Quotes

Bonus Round 4: Quotes

A shipping olympics favorite, this round uses quotes of all sorts to fuel your creative endeavors.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on July 21 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - M. Gandhi
    • The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Makoto & Rin). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Makoto/Rin). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your quote-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

It was far too easy to become complacent and take things for granted, Kinjou thought as he struggled to wash his hair. He had never really thought about it before, but with several broken ribs and a badly bruised collarbone, there were few positions that didn't require him to either raise his arms too much or pull his shoulder in an uncomfortable direction, and all of them gave him an awful crick in his neck.

He grunted as his attempt to work out his neck sent a sharp pain lancing down his side.

"Are you okay in there, Kinjou?" Makishima called, and Kinjou started to regret his choice to shower with the rest of the team. He hadn't actually participated in practice that day, but even just standing outside in the humid heat had been enough for him to work up a sweat, and given that he was trying to get the team back to normal as quickly as possible following the disaster of the Interhigh, it had seemed like a good idea at the time.

"I'm fine," he called back as he continued trying to work his shampoo into his hair.

Less than a minute later, Makishima's head poked through the edge of the shower curtain. "Really?" he said. "That doesn't look fine to me. You could've asked y'know. You're usually the first one done, and here everyone's waiting while you're in here sounding like you're being assaulted, and you expect us to believe you're fine?"

While Makishima spoke, he pushed Kinjou's hands aside and replaced them with his own. Kinjou bit back a groan as Makishima's fingers dug into the back of his head and released spots he hadn't even known were tense. For him, hair-washing had always been a chore, just one on a list of steps he had to finish in order to declare himself clean. He had never imagined it could feel good.

Far too soon, Makishima finished, turned off the water, and roughly dried Kinjou's hair before handing him the towel. "Ask next time," Makishima said as he walked away.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It wasn't until nearly six months later that Kinjou had the opportunity to return the favor. It was the middle of final exam season, and like usual, Makishima had practically tied himself in knots out of stress. They were sitting in Makishima's kitchen as they studied, and Kinjou swore Makishima spent more time fidgeting, tugging at his hair, and rubbing his temples than he did actually looking at the page.
Finally, when he couldn't focus around Makishima's fidgeting any longer, Kinjou set aside his pencil. "Let's take a break, Makishima," he said.
"I need to study; I'm not ready for these," Makishima said frantically, rearranging his notes without appearing to make any more order in the process.
"You'll study better after a break. Have you actually stored anything you've read in the last ten minutes."
Makishima looked sheepishly at the jumbled notes in front of him. "No," he admitted.
"Then we'll take a break now, and come back to that later. Why don't we take a bath?" Kinjou said as he stood and stretched, and Makishima finally set down his books and followed.
Makishima's house had many oddities in Kinjou's opinion, but one of its highlights was a bath large enough to comfortably fit multiple people. It didn't take him long to wash, and as soon as he finished, he took the shampoo from Makishima.
"Let me do it," he said, and Makishima didn't argue. He ran his fingers through Makishima's thick hair, pausing to work out the tight muscles in Makishima's neck.
"God, Kinjou," Makishima groaned as Kinjou's thumbs worked their way up his head to press into the pressure points over his temples, "keep that up much longer and I won't be thinking at all."
"That was the point," Kinjou said, continuing to work his fingers over Makishima's scalp. When he finished washing out the last of the shampoo, he repeated the entire process with Makishima's conditioner, and by the time he was done, Makishima slumped bonelessly in front of him.
"Can we just stay here forever?" Makishima asked.
"We could, but I think a bath would feel even better." It took some prodding, but eventually he managed to urge Makishima up from the floor and into the bathtub.
"God that feels good, Kinjou," Makishima said as Kinjou climbed into the tub behind him, pulling him close so that their bodies pressed together.
"I try," Kinjou replied, kissing the back of Makishima's neck.
