Bonus Round 6: Remixes

Bonus Round 6: Remixes

The event's almost over, and you've made it this far, congrats! This round encourages you to look back at everything the SASO has made and use it as inspiration.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on August 18 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Choose a fanwork created by other participants in a previous main or bonus round of SASO and create a new piece based on it. You could create a fanart of another work, an FST inspired by a piece’s style, retell another person’s fanfic from another point of view, create a new fanfic inspired by a great piece of art... go wild!
  • You cannot remix your teammates' works.
  • You must have permission from the original creator. There's a blanket permissions post here (feel free to add yourself to it!), or you can leave a comment on their original post asking for permission.
  • You must include the dreamwidth link to the original work in your post.
  • Since all fills are based on previous works, there will be no prompts for this round. Simply post your fill as a comment in response to this post.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Bonus round shenanigans all happen in the comments below. Brand-new works only, please.

Required Work Minimums:
  • 400 words (prose)
  • 400px by 400px (art)
  • 14 lines (poetry)

Posts not using this format will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, regardless of what they contain. They, like all comments in this community, are subject to the code of conduct.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many fills as you want!

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

Have a question? Check The FAQ first. If you still need help, feel free to contact the mods. Happy fanworking!

Kinjou Shingo & Inui Sadaharu, Kinjou Shingo & Kaidou Kaoru, Yowamushi Pedal, Prince of Tennis
serious injuries
531 words
Remix of blueminuet's BR4 fill.

The injury that had ultimately claimed his leg hadn't seemed that bad at first, but it had festered and refused to heal until amputation was the only option. Before the surgery, Inui had assured him there would be nothing he couldn't do afterwards, pointing to his own body that was as much metal as flesh as proof. Kaidou had been more reticent, as usual, but even he had squeezed Kinjou's hand and said, "You're tough."

Kinjou had been prepared for the pain after the surgery as his body adjusted to having metal where there once had been bone, but he hadn't been prepared for just how difficult it would be to teach his body how to use his leg again.

It gave out under him without warning, and he caught himself on the parallel bars, the wood slamming yet again into his arms, adding to the ever-growing bruises.

"It’s because you’re trying to use it like a leg," Inui said as if it were the most obvious conclusion in the world. Kinjou's confusion and frustration must have been obvious since Inui backed up to explain more fully, complete with holographic models and diagrams for illustration. By the time his father finished, he was convinced as well.

That didn't mean it was any easier to get his body to agree though. He was exhausted and covered in sweat by the time Inui finally declared they had done enough for the morning, and he knew they'd be right back at the next day as soon as Inui finished analyzing his copious notes.

He also knew he didn't have too long to rest. His other father would be coming back from work in a couple of hours, and he would undoubtedly pick up right where Inui had left off, though with far less note-taking. If Inui took a data-driven approach to Kinjou's rehabilitation, Kaidou ran purely off of instinct and training. In his opinion, the best way to improve was to just keep drilling the same routine over and over.

Unlike Inui, he still hadn't accepted that Kinjou's injury would likely prevent him from taking over the family business as he had hoped. Kinjou wasn't willing to rule it out entirely as Inui had, but it definitely wasn't at the forefront of his focus, and it made it difficult to work with his father sometimes. It was clear Kaidou blamed himself for what had happened, and even though he had been living with a man who was more machine than human for years, he was still struggling to adjust to his son's first step in that direction.

Kinjou wouldn't trade either of his fathers in though. He like to think he had the best of both worlds between Inui's data and Kaidou's instinct and perserverance. Perhaps it was no surprise that he tended to fall somewhere between the two of them. He'd take the data Inui gave him about learning to use his new leg, and then practice with it for as long as it took for him to make it a part of himself. If there was one thing he knew, it was that no matter what, he wasn't going to give up.

[gleefully welcomes you into my snamily home] I'm so happy that I trapped you here.

This is wonderful!! I'm glad you included Kaidou, because that's really something I wanted to have in the original but didn't have time for. Thank you for this sweet family content. ;w;

I'm glad you liked this!!! Im enjoying this little headcanon world.

I really like Kaidou, and he's so much the other half of Kinjou's personality I felt like I couldn't not include him here, so I'm glad that worked for you too.
