Bonus Round 6: Remixes

Bonus Round 6: Remixes

The event's almost over, and you've made it this far, congrats! This round encourages you to look back at everything the SASO has made and use it as inspiration.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on August 18 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Choose a fanwork created by other participants in a previous main or bonus round of SASO and create a new piece based on it. You could create a fanart of another work, an FST inspired by a piece’s style, retell another person’s fanfic from another point of view, create a new fanfic inspired by a great piece of art... go wild!
  • You cannot remix your teammates' works.
  • You must have permission from the original creator. There's a blanket permissions post here (feel free to add yourself to it!), or you can leave a comment on their original post asking for permission.
  • You must include the dreamwidth link to the original work in your post.
  • Since all fills are based on previous works, there will be no prompts for this round. Simply post your fill as a comment in response to this post.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many fills as you want!

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

Have a question? Check The FAQ first. If you still need help, feel free to contact the mods. Happy fanworking!

brief mention of blood, very non-human character, 498 words
remix of [personal profile] luckycricket33's mermaid christanba

from above, koichirou is a thin, pale line swirling through dark water, the powder blue of his tail washed silver by moonlight. chris watches him circle the outdoor tank three times before he heads down to the dock, slipping nimbly past the no entry signs. koichirou doesn't surface immediately, always wary, and chris makes himself comfortable, cross-legged on the wood, careful not to let any part of himself hang over the edge. they're forming a rapport and chris is a strong swimmer, but he's seen too much blood in the water to be complacent.

koichirou pops up after a few moments, skin translucent fish-belly white, bright beneath the waxing moon. "chrisss," he says, still several lengths from the pier, human words still uneasy in his mouth. chris has heard the recordings, of course, of what merfolk sound like under water, melodic many-throated warbling, but he still wonders what koichirou would sound like, if chris could learn to understand him.

"hi," chris says, and koichirou makes a noise that is not quite a word gills flaring, pale rings of color rolling over his skin. "can you come a bit closer?" chris says, and after a moment koichirou sidles up to the dock, close enough for chris to see his small, needle-sharp teeth worrying at his bottom lip. "is something wrong?"

"i'm here," koichirou says, the strange, harmonic quality of his voice making chris want to lean in. he leans back instead, resting his weight on his palms, trying to show koichriou that he won't try to touch him or grab him or any of number of things that would be alarming for koichirou but on balance more dangerous for chris.

"i know," chris says, tone gentle. "you got caught in the net. is your arm feeling better?"

"no," koichirou says, mouth ducking back beneath the water before he quite finishes the word, single syllable punctuated by a liquid pop. chris can see his tail lashing beneath the water, short anxious strokes. it means he's nervous, chris is learning. he's always nervous.

"do you want me to look at it?" chris says, and koichiro shakes his head, submerged almost up to his eyes. his pupils are slit, cat-like and narrow under the relatively bright light of the moon. "in the morning, maybe," chris says, watching koichirou's shoulders twitch, not quite an agreement. "it needs to heal before you can go home."

koichirou slides beneath the water and swims away from the dock, body a long, gleaming arc. he's different from most of the merfolk chris has encountered, thinner, skittish, uncertain. he's beautiful, chris thinks, watching koichirou speed around the tank, velocity more expressive than any words he's learned yet. he'll take time to heal, but chris is certain that he will, if he'll let chris help.

chris stands up. "i'll see you in the morning," he says loud enough to carry. there's no response but a single flip of koichirou's tail, briefly breaking the surface. chris smiles. it's still progress.
