Bonus Round 7: Recs

Bonus Round 7: Recs

You've created so much during this event, so here's a round to celebrate each other's achievements!

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on August 24 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

  • Recommend at least three fanworks from main or bonus rounds. Your recommendations don’t have to be connected in any way, and you do not need permission to recommend a work.
  • Don't rec your own work. You can recommend things created by your own team, but please spread the love to other teams too.
  • Each recommendation must include at least two sentences explaining why that fanwork is awesome. Please use the format specified below.
  • You may recommend as many works as you like, as long as they are posted separately in groups of at least three.
  • There will be no prompts for this round. Simply post each fill/recommendation list as a comment in response to this post.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Bonus round shenanigans all happen in the comments below. Brand-new works only, please.

Format your comment in the following way:

If FILLING (all teams):
  • Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team you belong to
  • Copy and paste the following form into a comment and fill it out. Delete things in brackets, and leave the HTML alone.

Posts not using this format will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, regardless of what they contain. They, like all comments in this community, are subject to the code of conduct.

These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many fills as you want!

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

Have a question? Check The FAQ first. If you still need help, feel free to contact the mods. Happy fanworking!

Theme: Oikage Fic Fill, Volume 15 (Fucked Up Giant Monster AUs Edition)

Title: Oikage Drift With Anyone
Creator(s): [personal profile] kazuyas
Rating: T
Major Tags: implied character injury
Why is this work awesome?: I don't care how self-indulgent it might be, I love the concept of Oikawa's ability as a setter translating into an ability to drift with anyone in a Pacific Rim AU. What I love with this fic is that it gives Kageyama that same ability and gives Oikawa knowledge of it, placing him in this really great position of being uniquely qualified to teach Kageyama. Unlike with canon, in this universe, Oikawa seems willing to rise to that challenge and mentor Kageyama without pretense.

Major Tags: prior major character death, violence, mind melding, PTSD, depression, minor vomit
Why is this work awesome?: What I love best about this fic, above all else, is the characterization of Oikawa. He's brittle but resilient, placed in an impossible position by the reality of war and doing what is necessary to keep dragging himself through each day while stubbornly resisting getting back in the fray. I love how his loss is conveyed through the particular ways in which he fractures or breaks down, and I love Kageyama being so determined to pull him out of it, not because of altruism or understanding but more because he needs Oikawa to step up and be his partner. It builds really well and I love the final lines for their deceptive glimmer of silver lining: not all is hopeless, but it's still positive thinking during a war.

Title: What Is Done (Evangelion AU)
Creator(s): [personal profile] dynamite
Rating: T
Major Tags: injury, gore (minor), violence (non-graphic), masturbation (dubious consent involved)
Why is this work awesome?: This is an Evangelion AU, and as such will be best enjoyed by someone familiar with that other canon; in my opinion it does not stand alone without that knowledge base. With it, though, the casting (Kageyama as Shinji, Oikawa as Asuka) is really interesting. Lin references specific scenes from the series while also paralleling Oikawa and Kageyama to their relationship in their own canon and it's just, an emotional mess, because the situation of Evangelion is such a mess. It's Oikawa and Kageyama grasping to make their way in the world where they find themselves and... Not exactly succeeding. It hurts, but sometimes you like that.
