Bonus Round 3: FSTs

FSTs

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Profess your love for your favorite ships with the power of song! In this round, we ask you to create fan soundtracks and use them as inspiration for new fanwork.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible.

RULES
  • Submit prompts in the form of a short playlist (1-6 songs) and a ship from any of our nominated fandoms. Submit only the track listing and a link to where they can be listened to; the idea is for others to interpret what you present. You may also link to lyrics if you would like.
  • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Lilia & Sara). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Lilia/Sara). Please don't say "Any pairing," either.
  • Create content based on the playlists of others! Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Fills may be in any form you choose (except for another FST of course) as long as they are inspired by/fit the mood of the soundtrack they are filling for.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

If you see anyone breaking the code of conduct (e.g., causing drama, being rude) anywhere (not just DW), please contact the mods immediately.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post).

Have a question? Check The FAQ first. If you still need help, feel free to contact the mods. Happy fanworking!

***

"Most of all. Mountains don't love anything but themselves."

Manami grows up on stories. They grow up on the moss growing inside their room, through open windows, and stagnant cleanliness trying to keep it out. They grow on the voice of a girl's voice across the way, filling the air with stories of a life outside boxes and fictions about what people are meant to be doing.

Video games don't have very good stories. Two-tailed class representatives do.

"Do you know how mountains are formed, Teshima-san?"

There's a pause, as he looks from the oil slick along his legs, from his bike, up to them. People are often exasperated with Manami. They're used to it. Teshima isn't much different. He sighs, and rocks on his heels, pulling at the tie in his hair. It's useless for how often they hook a finger behind his ear, sending wavy locks buzzing in his eyes.

"It's from the gods dying," Teshima says, and grins up at them, and - that's what's different. It's no refusal to answer. No remark of how air-headed they could be. He stares up like their question is a challenge, like he's planned out his answer to bring just the right words out of them.

Their smile cuts from easy boredom with the teeth that glance their lips, a jump of excitement.

"That's silly," they say, and grin when he feigns falling over. "I thought you'd taken science classes at Souhoku."

"Nah, I'm more maths oriented." He languishes on the grass. "You mean to tell me that those big rocks got there for reasons other than some spirits getting into fist fights and laying themselves out on the horizon?"

"Nope," they laugh, and it makes their throat hurt, how much the sound sticks in their lungs. They stick to another one of Miyahara's pretty fictions. "There's geometric plates under the surface of the earth. Super neat."

"Now you're just messing with me," Teshima says -

And when he says it -

They wonder if he means it.

---

When doctors said how fortunate it was for Manami to get better - when they explained the remaining dangers - when they explained that Manami would always have problems with their heart, their lungs, their health - Manami knew exactly what had happened.

After all. It wasn't as though mountains had hearts in the first place.

---

"You ever leave this place?"

"All the time! At least, when the rep finds out."

"Right, right. I did hear you were trying to set the truancy record for Kanagawa."

Teshima visits, sometimes. He has reasons. A senior of his dragging him out to the Toudou family onsen, only to abandon him midway to go out for karaoke and more disagreements about climbing versus sprinting. Friends of his who have university a bit farther out than he can travel, and a safe place to stop around. Mountains.

Manami stares over the railing. The ground's as far as the sky.

"I can see why," Teshima says, and when they turn, his face is turned up toward the stars. With the night, his neck still looks warm. Sunburned, but almost normal in how speckled he looks. They blink from him, away, and up, before they remember. "Goes on forever this high.

A hum escapes their throat, despite the irritating rake running itself through their ribcage. "I wouldn't be alive without it."

They speak without thinking, and don't look back down.

"Some things need to be eternal, I guess."

Eyes burning, they say, "Not really."

---

The first day they meet not on a mountain is a surprise.

Manami doesn't expect him to recognize them. They aren't sure they want him to. But an eyebrow still rises on his face, before he walks over. Inexorable in foolish decisions. Tongue running against the inside of their teeth, they're waiting for the brunt of shitty jokes and puns, a smile plastered fake on their face.

"Don't tell me you wanted to see me," Teshima says, and they already want to bite their tongue, rolling their eyes - because he's so predictable.

"The rep wanted me to apply at other places than her," they say, more hollow than they tend to let themself be around people. "I heard that this place had a good cycling team! Not that it had you!"

"Gee. Thanks," he says, and then - instead of walking off in the face of their indifference - he goes on. "Looks like you're having a rough time."

Wanting to bite their lip, because they can't predict him.

"There's some nice hills around the bend," Teshima says.

Like he almost wouldn't mind them being there.

"Just don't seem much like yourself," he says.

There are many things they could say. People are hard but answers are easy. Skirting around how they feel isn't a problem, because they don't care. For some stupid reason, they pick the honest answer.

Manami says, "And you know me that well?"

---

Mountains don't love anything but themselves.

Something about summits. Manami lost the logic of it a long time ago, only the fact etched into their mind like stone carvings.

"But," they would be told, "That is the fool's path."

"But what does that make you, Toudou-san?"

He would lurch into a long explanation about self-love, and the importance of who you are, and just as Manami would zone out, he would come to a standstill. "If one cannot love others, it is not truly caring for yourself."

Manami could whine and lurch over, but - respect meant the words echoed in their head.

Up and down. Their life decided what they could not have. Surviving meant they no longer had a heart. Living meant going on as mountains and summits, eternal for instants at a time. And fools who waited in those unfair seconds.

"I used to be sick a lot," Manami says.

They don't look to see if it gives Teshima a start. Instead, he says, "That sucks."

"Yeah."

He's drinking something. For some reason, they're not. For some reason, they remember the last time they had alcohol and threw up on their roommate's bed, and slept there. For some reason, they're not drinking their water. For some reason, their head is still swimming.

"It went away for a while. But it feels like it's come back recently."

"You gone to a doctor yet?"

He's almost nocturnal, but never sleeps during the day. Teshima always looks like he's been awake for three weeks, and they always look like they've had the perfect sleep, no matter how long the two of them stay up hating themselves for not sleeping more. When he's buzzed, he's always a little smug. Like the confidence that his depression keeps back decides to spend itself on something as pointless as this.

"Nah," they say. "I don't like doctors."

"Gotta suck it up sometimes," he says, and then - "S'about more'n just you."

Makes them nauseous. The world rocking under their feet, and they lean, and they're leaning on his shoulder. And it's simple. "You know something."

"What?"

It's slurred, and they laugh despite themself. "Sometimes ... it feels like you stole something I thought I didn't have."
