Bonus Round 5: Clue

Clue

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Sometimes, all you need are a few little details to imagine something bigger. This round is inspired by a classic board game with a cast of colorful characters, but for SASO your only limits on "who", "where", and "with what" are what you can imagine (and the SASO fandom list, of course)!

This round closes on 5 August @ 7PM EDT. (Countdown Timer.)

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with the format of a Clue mystery - "[character] in the [location] with [item]", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: Sawamura Daichi in the teachers' lounge with the Hello Kitty! lunchbox
    • The person in your prompt MAY be a member of your ship, but is not REQUIRED to be part of your ship. They must still be a named character from a SASO-nominated fandom.
    • Your place must be a physical location, not a state of being or a state of being. However, this location is not required to be real, nor must it be from the same setting as the characters.
    • The "item" used must be a physical object that the character can hold or manipulate.
    • Unlike the board game, your prompt is NOT required to imply murder. The scenario implied can be anything at all! (As always, please tag properly!)
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Natsuo & Yuzuko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Natsuo/Yuzuko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your Clue-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

FILL: Team The Prince of Tennis, T

Ship: Makishima/Toudou + Onoda + Arakita
Fandom: Yowamushi Pedal
Major Tags: tags omitted
Other Tags: tags omitted
Word Count: 488 words

The good boyfriend, the bad teammate and the adorable little newbie. Also known as: I love writing ensemble pieces.

***

“KING OF THE MOUNTAIN?!” Arakita bellowed as he looked down at the book that was in the front window of the bookshop. Toudou’s smiling face looked out into the middle distance while a gentle breeze blew his hair away from his face. And was that eyeliner? Had Toudou actually posed for the book cover with eyeliner on his face?!

Arakita threw the door of the bookstore open, intent on grumping his way in there and demanding that they remove that book from circulation. If they didn’t, he’d find some way to get it pulled! Maybe he’d go back to his gangster days and set fire to them!

The sight of Makishima at the counter made him freeze. Makishima had two huge piles of Toudou’s books on the counter and was handing over a credit card. Even Makishima’s ridiculous outfit (where did he even manage to buy bell-bottoms, hadn’t those been out of production since the Sixties?!) didn’t get any of Arakita’s attention.

“Are you buying all of those?!” He demanded.

Makishima nodded. “I wanted to buy the one in the window as well but the manager said that’s reserved.”

“...” Well. Arakita supposed that was also a good way of getting rid of the books. And it was unlikely to land Makishima in jail. Must be nice being able to solve problems with money.
Unwilling to give up his sulk, he grouched, “Can you believe that idiot?”

“I know,” Makishima agreed, “He should have made sure they translated his name properly. Now everyone will make jokes about Jinpachi being on their To Do list.”

Arakita stared at him blankly.

“...Maybe you need to know English for the pun to translate,” Makishima said after a second. He brushed his hair away from his arm as he signed the credit card bill and waited for everything to be bagged.

“How are you getting rid of them?” Arakita asked.

“I don’t know. I can’t let him see them all. He needs to think that they’re selling out naturally,” Makishima said with a frown.

“...You’re buying them to support him?!” Arakita demanded, his volume raising enough that the salesgirl gave him a look. He ignored her; this was a bookstore, not a library, he could be as loud as he wanted! Books weren’t babies, they didn’t wake up and scream when they were disturbed.

“Of course.” Makishima arched his eyebrows at Arakita. “He is my boyfriend after all.”

Oh. Right. Arakita had blacked that out from his mind, as well as the incident where Toudou pranced around the clubhouse in Makishima’s too-large and hideously unfashionable shirt.

The doorbell jangled and Onoda entered, smiling hopefully at the manager and completely missing the two of them. “Excuse me, is my copy of King of the Mountain here yet? I keep trying to get it but it’s always sold out!”

Makishima had the grace to look just a little guilty.

OMG that To do List joke is my fav thing ever, I cannot not think of it every time Toudou is written as Todo XD

Thank you so much for such a cute prompt!

And I must be as bad as Arakita I would never have thought of Makichan actually buying all of those with such good intents too haha.
He's such a cutie though, trying to get his boyfriends good sales discreetly, even at the expense of poor adorable Onoda who was actually genuinely interested in his senpai's work :'D
I wonder if Makishima would at least keep one of the Toudou book, to appreciate the numerous cheesy poetries about their races the ouvrage would undeniably contains ( and which Arakita would undeniably find infuriating) ,

Makishima totally keeps a few and gives them to EVERYONE he can. He gives them to visitors, to his parents, to the mailman, to the local second hand bookstores, to the local library, to people at bike meets or races who aren't competing, etc. If they have Jehovah's Witnesses in Japan, he probably gives the books to them too. Forget the Bible, read THIS! The Bible of mountain biking!

He's definitely embarrassed by the sections on his races with Toudou (also the photos of himself with Toudou where Toudou looks so great and he's just awkward as fuck) but he will support Toudou anyway. Just, you know, while bitching about it and calling Toudou annoying.

To make up for poor Onoda never being able to get a book, Makishima gets one signed by Toudou and gives it to him. THERE. Sorry he accidentally bookblocked you all over the city.

The ToDo list joke sprung into my mind as soon as I saw Toudou written like that. Way to make the poor guy lose his dignity, publishers. XD
