Kuroko / Akashi & Kagami, G, Harry Potter!AU, 592 words

The celebration in the Gryffindor common room is still in full swing when Kuroko slips into his dorm. He almost misses the package on his bed, the wrapping paper blending into his bed sheets at first glance. Kuroko frowns. He doesn't remember leaving the window open, but Furihata must have opened a crack after their potions class.

In his six years at Hogwarts, Kuroko has never received packages from anyone outside of his family. After all, most of his friends were here, and everyone knew Kuroko spent more time on the quidditch pitch than he did in the boys' dorm.

Still, Kuroko takes a moment to read the note. There's only a handful of people who address him with Tetsuya, but that doesn't explain the silky fabric folded neatly inside of the package.

Kuroko has only seen Akashi's invisibility cloak twice, when they used to meet in the library past curfew. It's been years since Kuroko has spoken to Akashi outside of curt greetings in class, and even longer since he's had time to think about Akashi's pureblood lineage. The cloak, Kuroko knows, is a family heirloom.

"What's up?" Kagami's voice cuts through Kuroko's thoughts. He's still clad in his robes from the first challenge, although someone has taken the time to charm a Gryffindor-colored flower crown on top of Kagami's wild hair. Riko-senpai, probably. "Why are you hiding up here? Everyone's still celebrating."

Kuroko sets the fabric down. "I could say the same thing about you. You are the Hogwarts champion, after all."

Kagami just shrugs and takes a seat on his bed. "I got lucky with the first challenge. If my firebolt hadn't flown into the stage, I would've been toast. What's that?"

It takes a moment for Kuroko to respond. "This is Akashi-kun's invisibility cloak."

Kagami squints at him. "Why do you have your ex-boyfriend's invisibility cloak? Aren't these things super rare?"

"Please don't call him that."

"Fine." Kagami throws his arms up. "Why do you have the cutthroat Slytherin prefect's invisibility cloak?"

Kuroko considers this as he runs his hand along said cloak. "It seems that he wants to see Hogwarts win the Triwizard Tournament more than he wants to see Gryffindor fail."

"Isn't it his duty to entertain our guests?" Kagami huffs. "There's a rumor that he's been courting the Champion from Beauxbaton-- the pretty half-veela kid."

This makes Kuroko smile. "His name is Kise-kun, and you know it."

"What I know is that Akashi spends more time staring at you than he does anyone else. I can't tell if he wants to kill you or kiss you."

"Kagami-kun."

Kagami shrugs and removes the flower crown. "All I'm saying is that if Akashi wants to help me, it's probably because he doesn't want to see you disappointed. After all, I'm like- you know, his replacement or something"

Kuroko gives him a flat stare. "You are not his replacement, in any sense of the word."

"You should tell him that." Kagami waves absently as he heads back towards the door. "I'm going back to the party, but I'll use that cloak for the next challenge. Tell Akashi thanks once you've worked out this weird thing between you two."

Kuroko says nothing as he watches Kagami leave. He glances back at the cloak, remembering the graceful way Akashi slipped it over his head during the earlier days of their friendship.

Use it well, the note says.

Kuroko smiles to himself. He needs to pay the Slytherin Dungeon another visit.
