The thing is, Hinata may not be at the top of his class, but he's really damn stubborn. It's with this stubbornness that he manages to pass all of his midterms with the combined tutoring of Yachi and Tsukishima, but at the sake of everyone's sanity
So Tsukishima blames it on Hinata's rowdiness when he snaps, during a particularly grueling study session, "Shut up or I'll kiss you!"
Hinata freezes from twirling a pencil and turns to Tsukishima with large eyes. A nervous laugh comes out of his mouth. "Eh- What?"
"Was that a threat or a proposition?" Kageyama asks Yamaguchi, and Tsukishima really regrets the day everyone walked in on Tsukishima making out with Akaashi at training camp. Since then, his sexuality has become the topic of so many conversations that people have gotten tired of bringing it up, like a stale party trick.
Still. "Don't be a dumbass," Tsukishima snaps at Kageyama. "That was a treat! Stop dicking around and focus on the material."
While Kageyama mumbles something under his breath, Hinata just continues staring at Tsukishima. It's the look he often dons when someone executes a cool move on the court. "Haahhh," Hinata says at last with a weird expression. "You're so forward, Tsukishima!"
"What?" Tsukishima can feel his eye twitching.
Hinata finally takes a seat and gives Tsukishima a meaningful look. "You don't have to threaten me to kiss me. You can just ask nicely!"
"No, Tsukki!" Yamaguchi yells as Tsukishima moves forward to strangle Hinata. Yachi joins in and pulls Hinata back, but Kageyama just blinks dumbly between them.
Yachi takes that as her cue to stand up. "Why don't we all take a break? I, um, made cookies! Let's have some tea and rest before continuing this chapter!" Thankfully, Hinata and Kageyama shoot up at the mention of cookies, and Yachi gives Tsukishima an apologetic smile when the other boys wander off into the kitchen.
The break is enough to diffuse any desires Tsukishima has of murdering his teammates, which has become unfortunately common ever since he became the captain. They get through the rest of the English materials before Yachi calls it a night, and Yamaguchi helps her clean up the living room while Tsukishima outlines what they need to review tomorrow.
They disperse at the base of Yachi's building. Kageyama's father is back from a work trip, so he takes a bus to the restaurant his parents picked for dinner. Yamaguchi, too, waves them goodbye before heading over to his part time job at Shimada Mart.
That leaves Tsukishima and Hinata waiting for the train together. Tsukishima's patience is already thinning when Hinata tugs on his arm. "What?"
"Soooo." Hinata's eyes are bright in the afternoon sunlight as he gives Tsukishima a cheeky grin. "If I score well on the exam, will you kiss me?"
Tsukishima stares at him.
Hinata continues, undeterred. "You've kissed a lot of people, right? So you must be good at this? I've always wanted to kiss someone, but, like, what if it sucks? What if i suck? I think I need a coach."
"A kissing coach," Tsukishima clarifies flatly. Hinata has clearly thought about this before.
"Yep!" Hinata beams without any sense of self-preservation.
Well. It's not like Tsukishima has never thought about kissing Hinata after they score a point, Hinata turning to Tsukishima with a bright laugh, the light from the windows catching on his face. Tsukishima pauses. "Okay."
"Yeah?" Hinata grins.
"Yes," Tsukishima agrees as their train comes. "If you score over 90 on the English exam."
"You're on!" Hinata declares, startling an elderly man standing behind them. Hinata lowers his voice conspiratorially. "You're gonna lose, Tsukishima!"
No, Tsukishima thinks with a smirk. This is a challenge he can only win.
