our first meeting,
the beginning of our whole lives together
was like opening a door.
a start to something irreplaceable.

we grew to know each other, then
friends to best friends
childhood days and bright summers
shared interests and matching smiles.

as we grew up,
taller and stronger (and a little wiser)
we stayed close,
but still grew closer.

separate space blurred
into one.
and we wouldn't change
any of it.

i knew you as a child, as a first best friend.
i know you as a partner, a constant in my life.

and now,
as you stand at a train station
ready,
separate schools and separate paths we'll take.

i still know you
(better than anyone else.)
i still love you
(more than i do anyone.)

and when we reunite again,
after this short journey apart.
i'll still know you like i do now:
as my best friend and partner.
