Oishi’s dreaming again about a dark void pulling him in when a sharp pain jolts him awake.
A blood red cat stands half on his face, blue eyes glowing inches from his own, and Oishi switches from terrified to exasperated way too easily.
“Again?” He asks, carefully moving the cat off his face and sitting up. Purrs fill the cabin as Oishi gives it a few pets in his lap before the knock he’d been waiting for comes.
“Oishi?? Are you awake? It happened again…”
Quietly as to not wake up the others, Oishi changes out of his sleep clothes and into something that he won’t mind sweating in. He has to bat away a mischievous paw as he ties his sneakers, but by the time he rounds up his medical kit and is ready to go, the cat has disappeared.
All for the better, really.
Yagyuu’s waiting outside for him, stuck on night duty, and they walk together over to Cabin Twenty. The walk is shorter than usual, thanks to the crater in the ground from whatever fell off Cabin Twenty. Surprisingly enough, though, Cabin Twenty sits in the middle of the crater, completely untouched as usual.
“Where are the injured campers?” Oishi asks, kicking a rock into the massive hole.
“They’re over to the right with Yukimura and Shiraishi. There’s only two of them but--” They look over and see what looks like Shiraishi possibly growing something from the ground. Yagyuu coughs. “...I would suggest someone with actual medial knowledge getting over there soon.”
Oishi steels himself and heads over, praying a bit to his father to let him heal these demigods as fast as possible.

By sunrise, the crater is gone, everyone is healed, and the camp looks like nothing happened over night.
Yagyuu walks him back to his cabin, but instead of going inside and sleeping for an hour, Oishi waits until Yagyuu’s out of sight and slips around the side. The path through the forest is the same as ever and he reaches the cliffside just as the sun starts warming the rocks.
It might be due to the ties to his father, but Oishi has always loved the sun and the warmth it gives. It always wraps around him like a hug and it’s the first thing that he looks for when he needs comfort. Just like the arms now wrapping around him from the back, looking for their own comfort.
“Sorry I woke you up again.” The voice is muffled by his back and he laces their hands together. “It really wasn’t me this time though! I wasn’t even in the cabin, Oishi! Someone is trying to set me up...or maybe something else.”
“Something else?” Visions of a black void flash in Oishi’s mind and he turns around to look at his boyfriend. “Do you know anything, Eiji?”
“No but the Mist.” Eiji frowns. “The Mist has felt...odd. I can’t explain it but lately I can’t even use it lightly for easy things. Like to change my hair color.”
“So that’s why your fur was weird this morning.”
“Yeah. Plus there wasn’t even a sound when the hole was made. I don’t even know if it was from the cabin or if it was something else and because no one saw it, no one seems to know what caused it!” This fact is a little worrying but Eiji continues. “I tried to contact my mother but, well, if she won’t disenchant the stones of the cabin to stop exploding when they fall, then I doubt she’ll tell me about this. But I’m scared, Oishi. Everything feels...off. Wrong.”
Oishi pulls him in for a hug.
“I’m sure it’ll be fine.” He’s not sure if he’s saying it more for himself or more for Eiji, but it makes him feel a little bit better. Things always feel that way around Eiji, just like when he’s in the sun.
“This is probably a normal thing that happens every now and then and when your mother fixes your cabin, there will be no more explosions or craters to watch out for in camp and I’ll be able to sleep more. Besides, if it was something serious, we would have all felt it by now, right?”
“If you say so…” Eiji sighs against his chest, rubbing his head a bit. “I’ll miss your pets though. They feel so nice.”
With a smile, Oishi runs a hand through Eiji’s hair. “You can have them anytime.”
