When Kuroko saves a dog abandoned in the rain, he doesn't expect it to start talking to him the next day.
But that's exactly what he wakes up to the following morning. He blinks his eyes open to the puppy sitting on his chest, clearing his throat—when did dogs have to clear their throats?—and saying, "Kuroko, it's time to wake up."
"Five more minutes," he says, even though he's wide awake, because he doesn't really know what else to say to a talking dog sitting on top of his chest, apparently having taken the place of his seven o'clock alarm.
"We have work to do," Nigou tells him. He has a deeper voice than Kuroko would have expected, if he was ever going to expect his new dog to speak. "We need to find the Legendary Silver Crystal."
"The what?" Kuroko asks politely, sitting up in bed. He picks Nigou up. "Am I still asleep?"
"You're awake," Nigou tells him. "You're finally awake, after all this time, your highness."
"What?" Kuroko asks again.
"You're the Moon Prince," Nigou explains impatiently. "You need to find a way to awaken the other guardians, so we can all work together to find the Legendary Silver Crystal together."
"You lost me again," Kuroko says apologetically.
Nigou sighs. "A long time ago, there was a kingdom on the moon. You're the reincarnation of the Moon Prince. You had five generals, and their souls lie sleeping in people on earth. We need to find them and awaken them. The entire universe is in grave danger, Kuroko. We need your power, and the other guardians' power, if we have any hope of keeping the planet safe, let alone the rest of the universe."
Kuroko sighs, and then lies back down. "I'm going back to sleep."
"Take this," Nigou says, throwing a pale blue charm at Kuroko. "And say these words: Moon Prism Power, Make Up."
"Make up?" Kuroko asks, raising an eyebrow.
Nigou sighs. "Please just say the words."
Kuroko does, and he's suddenly surrounded by shimmering light, before he's transformed out of his pyjamas.
He looks down at himself and realises that he's wearing a basketball uniform. "Oh."
Nigou cocks his head to the side, making a confused noise. "That's not what I was expecting."
"I like this," Kuroko says, tugging at the waistband of his basketball shorts. "It's comfy. The shoes are nice."
"Never mind," Nigou mutters. "Do you believe me, now? It's important that we find the others too."

Nigou hesitates, and Kuroko waits patiently.
"You know what?" Nigou asks at length. "Sure."
