"We're sorry for calling you this late at night," the worried voices say over the phone, "it's just that we seem to have a shifter caught in the woods behind our property, and he's too agitated for us to approach."
"Not a problem," Yahaba says politely at—he checks the clock, fuck—just a little past two o'clock in the morning. "I'll be over right away."
He hangs up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes and sighs heavily. He's not going to have the restful night he was hoping for. He hopes that at least whoever the dragon shifter is, they'll actually listen to reason and stop kicking up a fuss and fuck no o'clock in the morning.
He drives to the address that he's been given over the phone, and from the moment he steps out of his car, he knows that it's not going to be a quick visit at all.
It's Kyoutani. Yahaba can tell by the smell of him in the air.
He's gotten himself caught in between the trees, too agitated to turn back, and he growls when Yahaba approaches.
"Hey," Yahaba greets. "It's just me. I know you were in a rush to get home, but really? Really, Kyoutani?"
With another low growl, Kyoutani snaps his teeth together.
Sighing, Yahaba shifts into his dragon form too, so he can help. He pulls at the tree trunks, helping Kyoutani untangle himself, until he's standing in the clearing just outside the mouth of the woods, finally free.
Yahaba nuzzles against Kyoutani, then shifts back into human form, smiling when Kyoutani does the same. "There. That wasn't so difficult, was it?"
"Try telling me that when you're the one tangled in at least three different trees, except you can't even see how," Kyoutani grumbles, the tips of his ears turning bright red with embarrassment. "Thanks, though. You're right. I was in a rush to get home. Thought I'd be able to surprise you, if I flew fast enough."
Yahaba snorts quietly, taking Kyoutani's hand in his and tugging him along. "Well, I guess that technically, finding you stuck in the trees here was a surprise. Even if it wasn't the one you intended."
"You aren't going to let me forget it, are you?" Kyoutani asks with a sigh, as Yahaba bids the nearby residents a good night, assuring them that their dragon problem has been taken care of.
"Dragon problem?" Kyoutani asks, as he gets into the car.
"That's exactly what you are," Yahaba says with a fond smile, leaning over and pressing a kiss to his cheek. "A huge dragon problem. A cute one. Now come on, let's go home. I have sleep to catch up on, but at least I'll sleep better with you in bed with me too."
"Kyoutani Kentarou: dragon problem and bed warmer. I'm killing it."
Yahaba laughs until it trails off into a yawn. He takes Kyoutani's hand as he drives, and doesn't let go until they're home.
