It doesn't require a knowledge of any Gundam series to appreciate; Lin paints that world in as a backdrop to the conflict between Teshima and Imaizumi, a conflict that's sharp-edged and fascinating and painful. I love Lin's language; there are a lot of lovely lines and the way she puts scenes together really keeps the tension going.

It's something fledgling and new, which they're putting to the test on a road trip, and there's this really fascinating feeling of fragility that comes through in the story as the reader puts the pieces together. It's also a really dialogue-driven story, which I find to be a lot of fun, conveyed through crisp, spare prose and a great voice for both characters.

The imagery is lovely and the language is tight and clever, and I adore the picture of Miki that's painted here. It's a first meeting, but a lot of Miki's history is evoked through just a few lines, and the fact that one of the kernels of that is family is really great.
