"Can you stand?" asks the general standing over him, one hand outstretched to offer aid.

"I…" Kise tries, bracing his sword against the ground, but it's no good. His legs are exhausted from the fight and he doesn't even need to articulate it before he has two strong arms pulling him up, holding him steady. Kise takes in the uniform, recognising it as Aqua Force. He inclines his head. "Thank you… sorry, who are you?"

"Kasamatsu," is the reply as they walk slowly to one of the tents that have been set up on the battlefield. Kise can see aquaroids milling between tents, carrying supplies and providing assistance as the small group of Angel Feather medics provides most of the medical attention. "Of the Blue Storm."

"Blue Storm General, Kasamatsu," Kise murmurs softly. "I won't forget your name. Thank you for everything you've done."

Kasamatsu just nods in reply, only just barely accepting the thanks. Kise means it, though. There's no reason that any part of the Blue Storm fleet should have come out to provide assistance to a Gold Paladin army, but their Shadow Paladin attackers have been successfully driven back, and it's all thanks to the successive waves of attack as Aqua Force vanguards rushed onto the field. Thinking back on it now, Kise tries to remember if he'd noticed Kasamatsu leading them, but he can't remember very much at all beyond his own fights.

"Don't think too hard about it," Kasamatsu mutters, guiding Kise into a tent and down onto one of the cots that have been set up. "If you can waste time looking back, you might as well look forward, right?"

"I guess," Kise says softly, watching as Kasamatsu pulls up a stool and picks up a tube of antiseptic cream. "Aren't you too highly ranked to be tending to the wounds of a Gold Paladin knight?"

Kasamatsu's raised eyebrow says that he clearly doesn't think so. "Everyone helps. The nurses are dealing with the more serious injuries. You fought well and defended yourself. You're more exhausted than injured."

"I ran out of stamina," Kise mutters, balling his hands into fists. "I need to train harder. If I could move as fast as those Shadow Paladin knights—"

"That would only solve one problem," Kasamatsu replies. "It doesn't guarantee that you'd win. I've heard enough about you from the rest of your knights. You're well-rounded, and you learn quickly. There's no reason you need to focus all of your attention on the one area, just because that's where someone else beat you. Grow into your own ability. I'm sure that you can do it."

Kise feels his face heat at the praise and he turns away, biting his lip as Kasamatsu starts applying the antiseptic. "Thank you."

"Stop thanking me," Kasamatsu huffs, taking his hat off and setting it aside, giving Kise a proper view of his deep blue eyes. They shine like the sea under the midday sun, and Kise suddenly wants to see what they'd look like when he's laughing. "Let's just win next time, okay?"

"Yeah." Kise nods, pleased at the confirmation that their alliance will remain for a little longer, which means Kasamatsu will most likely stay too. "Let's do that."
