The first thing that draws Kimishita's attention is the fact that Ooshiba is full of potential. He's a natural on the soccer field and anyone can see it, regardless of how much or how little experience they might have. He has a body that's built for it, a greed to win, to stay on the field so he can keep playing and keep winning, and it's everything a playmaker like Kimishita could want. Ooshiba could be the perfect attack dog, with the right kind of training, the right kind of direction.
It's a shame about the rest of his personality, Kimishita thinks to himself, but that isn't really enough to keep him from paying attention anyway. Not through middle school, as annoying as Ooshiba is for three whole years like he's specifically been put on this earth to find every possible way to piss Kimishita off. Not through high school either, and Kimishita knows that he should just give up on pretending not to care. Ooshiba might be naive, he might have his head in the clouds, distracted by illusions of his own grandeur, but he's still no fool. He might not have a word for whatever it is that's going on between them, any more than Kimishita does, but he knows it's there all the same.
Kimishita just wants to see if he can ignore it for a bit longer. The decision to act on this, whatever it is, might be a risky one and Kimishita isn't sure that it's a risk that he's willing to take. Disturbing the balance between the two of them could lead to an imbalance in the rest of the team and Kimishita doesn't know if he can put them all at risk for something like this, especially when everyone's working so hard.
Ooshiba, for his part, isn't as patient, or as thoughtful. He makes up his mind and he acts on it, immediately. He grabs Kimishita by the back of his shirt when they're in the locker room after practice, setting of a brief slap fight that results in everyone else leaving ahead of them, until it's just the two of them left.
"Kiichi, you're so goddamn annoying—"
"Listen," Ooshiba tells him, towering over Kimishita and backing him into his locker. "I've made up my mind, okay? I'm going to kiss you."
"You're what."
"Kissing you," Ooshiba says, leaning in to do just that.
Kimishita headbutts him, hard enough that they both end up hissing in pain, clutching at their foreheads.
"What was that for?" Ooshiba complains.
"You don't make those sorts of decisions on your own," Kimishita spits. He can feel his face burning and tells himself that it's just with anger. Nothing else. "Maybe ask."
"Oh. Can I kiss you?"
"No."
Ooshiba scowls at him. "Then why make me ask?"
"It's the polite thing to do."
"You're not a polite person," Ooshiba replies.
"Fuck you," Kimishita replies, grabbing him by the front of the shirt. "I'm going to kiss you. Okay?"
"Is that you asking?" Ooshiba asks, and Kimishita just tugs on his shirt harder. "Yes, fine, just hurry up and kiss me."
Kimishita does, bringing their lips together in a hard kiss. It's impulsive, it's reckless, and he doesn't care. It's what he wants.
