“Kise!” One of the women waiting outside the store shrieked, thrusting a microphone in his face with a wide, hopeful smile. “Is it true that you and Riko are dating?”
“What?” Kise paused, resting the bag of groceries on his hip. His disguise of hipster glasses, a scarf and a hat clearly weren’t good enough to go out in public without the paparazzi finding him.
(Later, Momoi would point out to him that he’d worn nearly that exact outfit in the August Vogue shoot and Kise would realize where he’d gotten the inspiration for it from.)
He usually had a strict ‘do-not-engage’ policy with the paparazzi but he’d met Riko’s father. No way was he giving the man an excuse to come after him!
“No, no, we’re just friends. From high school.” The last addition was made quickly. See? They were long-term friends. Absolutely nothing suspicious.
“Ahhh. So a schoolyard romance is being rekindled?” The reporter beamed at him knowingly. For some reason, Kise had observed, a disproportionate number of the reporters that attacked him were female.
“No,” Kise said again, as firmly as he could while still remaining charming. “No romance whatsoever.”
“Kise, you’re much too handsome to be single,” the reporter practically cooed. The familiar click of camera phones taking photos of the scene was ignored by Kise as he started walking towards his car.
He couldn’t tell them he wasn’t single. Instead, he waved from the window of the car with one of his best smiles as he drove past them. “Have a nice weekend.”

KISE DENIES LOVE AFFAIR WITH RIKO! CHILDHOOD ROMANCE REKINDLED! KISE WON’T SAY HE’S IN LOVE OLD FRIENDS AND LOVERS!

The newspaper, magazine and Internet headlines were all sent to him by Momoi along with a scolding on how he should never, ever talk to the paparazzi alone! Kise cringed slightly as he read her email. She was the best sports manager in the business, possibly due to her years of experience with managing Aomine, but her sharp tongue even carried through over text.
And he’d thought Kasamatsu was harsh!
The e-mail ended with the ominous postscript: And call Dai-chan! He knows it’s nothing but it’ll be good for him to hear it from you.
Kise sighed and picked up his cellphone. This was the third time this season he would had to swear to Aomine that he wasn’t involved with anyone and didn’t even want anyone except Aomine!
Sometimes he thought it might just be easier to come out. At least then the rumors would end.

(But so would their careers.)
