"Again," Himuro pants, and it's the tenth time he's lost in a one-on-one to Aomine, but he doesn't care. He's going to try again and he's going to find what he's lacking, in gap between his skill and Aomine's.

This isn't about winning any more, but about learning, about growing, and that's a new lesson to both of them, taught to them by Kagami whether intentionally or not. Himuro is tired of resigning himself to things he doesn't want. He's tired of accepting that he's never going to get any better. He doesn't care if he isn't destined for the same kind of greatness that Kagami might be; he knows what he wants, he knows he wants to be up there with the best, and so he's going to claim all of that for himself.

It starts here, standing in a street ball court with Aomine, dripping with sweat and panting as they face each other once again. Aomine doesn't deny him the opportunity to try; Himuro can't explain why he wants to do this with Aomine, over Kagami, but it works for them both. They're well matched for each other in a strange way, as a player who never won enough, and a player who won too much. They understand each other by meeting in the middle, and that's something Himuro doesn't think he could have done, just a few months ago.

"You're gonna exhaust yourself," Aomine says, when he wins the next one-on-one too, before Himuro can even open his mouth to ask for another try. "You're gonna exhaust both of us, and we're not going to get anywhere like that."

"A break then," Himuro says, and now that he's stopped, he can finally feel his legs shaking from the effort of keeping him upright.

"Let's call it for today," Aomine says, noticing the same thing. He grabs Himuro by the arm, leading him over to the side of the court. Himuro fights against his grip, trying to pull away. Aomine might be stronger, but that's never stopped Himuro from winning fights before. Aomine forestalls that too, slamming Himuro up against the fence of the court, making it rattle.

"You're so damn hungry for victory," Aomine mutters, his fingers digging into Himuro's arms. "It's like you've never won a single thing in your life, when we both know that's not true."

"Of course I know what victory feels like," Himuro replies. "Why do you think I want it again so badly?"

Aomine snorts, leaning in and kissing Himuro instead of replying. Himuro's fingers go into Aomine's hair as he kisses back, and neither of them have their breath back just yet, panting into each other's mouths in between kisses, still covered with sweat. Himuro loses himself to Aomine's kisses anyway, pulling him closer, until he decides that this isn't the right place for it.

"Come on," Himuro mutters. "Let's go."

Aomine's grin says that this was his plan all along, but the dark, eager look in those blue eyes is so promising that Himuro doesn't really mind.
