Their Friday night rituals were the best part of the week and Imaizumi wasn't ashamed to admit it. After a long biking practice, they'd both go back to either Imaizumi's house or Onoda's. Imaizumi actually preferred Onoda's to his own - his mother was such a warm, comforting figure but also very willing to leave them alone. Imaizumi's mother, on the other hand, kept interrupting them every few minutes to see if they needed snacks or something to drink. While her solicitude was touching, it was a little embarrassing as well and Imaizumi didn't dare even try anything with the prospect of being interrupted looming on the horizon.
Onoda's place was much better! Their routine was quite set too. They'd bike there, then Imaizumi would shower and get changed first as the guest, then Onoda. Then they'd have dinner with Mrs. Onoda who always made sure to serve them both huge portions since they were growing boys. No matter how much Imaizumi protested he didn't need that much food, she'd always give him a little extra too 'for being so skinny and tall'. Then afterwards, they'd take the snacks she had prepared and go settle down in Onoda's bedroom for their weekly viewing of the new Love Hime episode.
It was all Onoda's fault that Imaizumi had even started watching the anime! Sometimes he'd mock-complain about it to Onoda but Onoda would beam up at him with those pretty eyes and that big, trusting smile and Imaizumi would end up stuffing his face instead. He was fairly sure that he'd actually absorb more of the anime's plot if he watched it alone at home, however. When he watched it with Onoda, Onoda always leaned against him, the warm weight of his body a constant distraction from the laptop screen. And just when Imaizumi had adjusted to that, Onoda would grab his hand out of excitement! Whenever a villain appeared, immediately Onoda's hand found Imaizumi's as if Imaizumi was five and needed to be comforted.
Imaizumi didn't really mind singing along with the theme songs. Given how they powered Onoda up, Imaizumi thought it was best to learn them for a future cycling emergency. And really, the anime wasn't that bad either.
It was just that Imaizumi had a sneaking suspicion that he looked forwards to Friday night not for the anime but just for that half-hour of having Onoda cuddling him.
He tried not to think about it too often; it made him feel like a terrible friend.
