Aomine stared at Kuroko disbelievingly. He raised one hand to his forehead, massaging his temples as if Kuroko's declaration had just given him the biggest headache possible, and narrowed his eyes down at his trying-to-be-ex boyfriend.
"You're breaking up with me," he said finally, in a tone of the utmost confusion, "Over BASKETBALL?"
"Not exactly." Kuroko flushed slightly, lifting his chin up and doing his best to meet Aomine's eyes as if they were equals and he didn't have to crane his head back just to make eye contact.
"You said you're breaking up with me because I don't want your passes anymore and because you don't like how I play," Aomine said, tone still wavering betewen bewilderment and hurt. "That's basketball."
"No, those were examples of how you've changed," Kuroko hastily corrected. "It's-those are true, but they just show how you're different now. You're always angry, always convinced you're better than everyone else--"
"I am!" Aomine interrupted.
"Only at basketball!" Kuroko shot back before continuing, "And you never think about other people anymore. You don't even want to show up at practice."
He paused and asked in a small voice, "Is basketball even fun for you anymore?"
"Tetsu," Aomine said in a tone of great patience, "I don't wanna talk about basketball. I want to talk about our relationship."
"We don't have a relationship," Kuroko said, sliding his hands into his pockets. "We stopped having one when you left me behind."
"Only in basketball!" Aomine said, desperation starting to flavor his tone as he realized Kuroko was serious. Seeing Kise pass by, he grabbed Kise by the arm. "Yo! Tell him he can't break up with me over basketball!"
"You're breaking up with him, Kurokocchi?" Kise said, sounding far too cheerful for Aomine's liking. "You can be my shadow now!"
Hopeless. Kise was a hopeless opportunist so Aomine shoved him away roughly. "Fuck off! Don't try to steal Tetsu, he hasn't even broken up with me yet!"
"I wouldn't date you either, Kise-kun," Kuroko said calmly. "You also took part in that game against Meiko. The disrespect you showed our opponents was cruel. I don't like cruelty."
"It was just for fun, Kurokocchi. I won't do it again," Kise promised with a wide smile as he draped himself over Kuroko.
"Please let go of me," Kuroko politely requested.
"But Kurokocchi! Now that you're on the rebound--"
The fight that ensued between Kise and Aomine was loud and violent enough that Kuroko was able to sneak away unnoticed.
