Warnings for anxiety and Mihashi overthinking things. First kisses are nerve-wrecking!
***
Abe's lips look so soft that Mihashi's a little scared to kiss him. What if he does it wrong and Abe starts bleeding? Oh no, he can't start worrying now! He has to get up all his courage for this because Abe promised that they'd wait for Mihashi to be comfortable before they did anything more than holding hands.
Holding hands is actually quite dangerous in itself for a pitcher and catcher, in Mihash's opinion. What if he trips and pulls Abe down with him? What if he falls and jerks at Abe to get his balance and snaps Abe's wrist?
He knows that logically, neither of those are likely to happen because Abe is a human being made of flesh and skin, not of tissue paper and paper marche, but he can't stop worrying about all the ways in which things could go wrong!
It's because he's happy, Mihashi decides.
Being happy is dangerous. Living in misery was horrible, always fearing who would be the next bully to pick on him, what would be the next comment that sent him out of the classroom in tears and further cemented his reputation as the school crybaby but he had never had far to fall. He was their pitcher and they hated him. The only thing he could have lost then would’ve been the pitcher’s mound.
Now, if he loses Abe, he’d lose everything.
(He’d even walk off the mound if Abe told him to rather than lose Abe.)
He has to get it right! He has to make sure that this is the best kiss ever and it’ll make Abe want to kiss him and kiss nobody except him!
He’s so nervous that when he raises his hand to Abe’s cheek, it’s trembling. Abe can feel the shivers through Mihashi’s fingers but when Abe draws back, Mihashi instinctively braces himself to be yelled at. Was that wrong? Do boys not touch each other on the face while kissing?
“I’m sorry!” He says immediately, voice quivering. “Please don’t break up with me.”
“I’m not.” If nothing else, time has given Abe a little more patience when it comes to Mihashi. “If you’re nervous, we don’t have to do this now. We can kiss some other time. Let’s go practice now.”
“...You sure?”
Abe kisses Mihashi’s back lightly. “Yeah. You’re worth waiting for.”

He’s never seen Mihashi blush so red in his life.
