Takao has never understood the way Midorima's brain works. At first, he considered that something of a problem, or at the very least, a source of constant irritation. Since then, he's come to love that about his partner. Midorima may be strange and full of more quirks than the rest of the team combined, but that's the very thing that makes Takao love him so much. If one takes the time to get to know Midorima past all of the prickles, it's impossible not to come to love him, or at least that's what Takao believes.

Take the to-do lists for example. Midorima is always making to-do lists. Some of them are common ones, like things to remember to pick up at the store, or class assignments due in the next week. Those alone are nothing unusual; Takao is pretty certain most of his classmates make similar things at least occasionally.

But Midorima doesn't stop there. His to-do lists extend beyond the standard ones into things Takao never would have imagined. Training menus for practice and packing lists for his bag for a game are still on the edge of normal by Takao's count, but then there are lists like "Oha Asa Lucky Items" that grow by one line every day until the card is full, and then start over on a new blank sheet. Or "Ingredients in the Fridge for Dinner," which is always such a complicated tangle of crossed out lines, additions, and arrows between things that Takao doesn't even try to parse it.

And then there's the card that Takao doesn't know what to think about. Unlike most of the cards, which Midorima shows him from time to time, this one was buried deep in a side pocket of Midorima's bag. Takao only sees it when it falls to the floor by mistake as Midorima digs for a new roll of tape. Midorima's ears are burning when he snatches the card back out of Takao's hands, but Takao has already seen what it says.

"Takao's Likes" the top of the card reads, and below it in Midorima's neat, cramped hand is a long list of Takao's favorites ranging from foods he likes to music he listens to while studying to his favorite type of socks to wear for a game.

Takao can't stop the smile that spreads across his face.

"I love you too, Shin-chan," he says, bumping playfully against Midorima's chest.

Midorima doesn't say anything, but he doesn't need to. Takao learned to read his silences long ago.
