You steel yourself and step into the shop in front of you. As the door swings shut behind you, you're almost immediately overwhelmed by how much... stuff lies in front of you. You scan the store furtively, looking for something you can recognize before your eyes land on a familiar shape. You walk quickly over to the side of the store, where the bike helmets are, and pick one of said helmets up, letting your fingers grip through the holes as you feel the smooth shell of it against your skin.
You place the helmet carefully on top of your head, eyeing yourself in the mirror as you fasten it below your chin. You probably should've picked a different helmet up off of the shelf; yellow really isn't your color. You unbuckle the helmet and take it off. When you look up, a vaguely familiar looking girl with large brown eyes is standing in front of you.
She smiles and dusts off her green apron. "Hello!"
You glance quickly over your shoulder, as if there's anyone else in the store she could be talking to, before straightening yourself up and clearing your throat. "Hello."
"Are you finding everything alright?" She taps the helmet in your hands lightly. You hastily place it back on the shelf.
"Uh. I'm just looking."
She nods before looking at you consideringly. "Are you from around here? I don't recognize you from Sohoku."
You shake your head. "I'm from Kanagawa. I'm just in Chiba visiting some relatives for the weekend."
She nods again, as if that somehow explains something and grins. "So, what brings you to Kanzaki Cycle."
You look away and run your fingers through one of your ponytails. "I have a friend back home who likes cycling, and he keeps insisting that I race him. I didn't want him or one of his teammates to see me going into any bike shops back home, though."
The girl's eyes light up. "Your friend is on a cycling team? What school do you go to?"
"Hakone Academy."
If it's possible, her eyes seem to glitter even brighter. "That's amazing! He must be one of the best cyclists in the country!"
You shrug. Sangaku's pretty good, you guess.
The girl suddenly extends her hand. "Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Kanzaki. As in Kanzaki Cycle Shop."
You reach out and clasp her hand. It's warm and much rougher than you thought it would be. "I'm Miyahara."
