“…Do you want a hand?”

“I got it!”

“Are you sure? You’ve already spent 1800 yen on this.”

Teshima’s unphased as Koga shoots him an irritated glare before readjusting his aim.

Carnival games were always a little difficult. But Techima had assumed that as soon as Koga tealised he hadn’t the talent fr shooting games, he’d give up. But he’d reached that point where he’d sunk so much money into the effort, giving up now would mean he wasted all that time for nothing. A trap that many claw machines liked to take advantage of.

Still, the guy admired the other’s tanicity if nothing else. And even if sometimes it was better to give up, he supposed it was a little amusing watching Koga get more and more frustrated.

Nevermind that he’d spent the last 45 minutes hanging around, waiting for Koga to win the stupid thing so they could go. Nevermind that this was supposed to be a date. Nevermind that there were certainly other things he wanted to do.

…Okay, so maybe he was getting a little annoyed as well. Koga was stubborn at the best of times, and he definitely wouldn’t leave until he won the doll, right? The guy didn’t even like Kuromano or whatever it was called. He was just trying to show off. And failing badly.

“Come on Koga. Just leave it.” He sighs as the other digs into his pockets for another 200 yen. “You’ve been bested by this already, so there’s no point trying again.

“You think you can do better?” Koga snaps, more aggravated than Teshima’d ever seen before (and he’s a little sad he’s not the one that put that expression on his face.). Without waiting for a reply, he shoves the pop-gun into his hands.

“Go on then.” Koga prompts, as he stands to the side, eyes narrowed and arms folded. “If you’re so sure.”

“I didn’t say that, but sure.” He replies smoothly, pulling on a façade of confidence even though he’s long discovered how bad he is at shooting games. Still, he considers his options. One, he fails and Koga has the pleasure of poking fun at him. And maybe taking up the gun to try again. Meaning they’d be here for another hour, or until the stall holder took pity and just gave them one. Two, he manages to knock one down. But that could end up in one of two ways as well – Koga either insisting he wanted to try again so he could win his own, or Koga being so embarrassed, he spends the rest of the date sulking. There’s a multitude of things that could go wrong.

So no pressure then.

The handle of the gun is warm and kind of gross, a testament to how tight Koga had been gripping it. Vaguely recalling shooting poses from those movies Aoyagi liked to watch, he rests the butt of it on his shoulder instead of under his arm. Squinting down the barrel… thing, he raises it to be level with a Kuromajo (?) on the top left, where it rests innocently against a thin pole.

His aim is a little off, so he shifts to adjust it a little and of course.
Accidentally pulls the trigger.

Ah, that’s it, He thinks as the bullet hits the toy. Guess I should just leave now

He’s about to turn to Koga, laugh it off and claim it to be a practise shot, but the toy swings wildly despite the weird shot and topples over.
And hits the bottom shelf.
And knocks another Kumorumo over.

Ah, he thinks.

“Ah.” He says, the exclaimation and trickle of surprise as Koga tenses beside him.

The stallholder looks about to cry (probably from relief) as he hands over both Kumajiros, and Teshima’s brain scrambles for something to say.

“Hah. See?” He finally decides to say. “That’s how you do it, Kimitaka.”

The other looks furious for a second, but deflates and raises a hand to his face to pinch the bridge of his nose.

“Okay. That was pretty good, I’ll admit.”

And because Teshima’s not a complete asshole, he diplomatically hands over one of the Kuramamotos.

Koga looks so pleased for a second, he almost manages to hold his tongue.
Almost.

“You know, considering how much you tried, maybe you should leave this kind of thing to me.”

It’s only slightly worth it when he gets a face full of Kurimamoto.
