"I love him," Murasakibara confesses, at the end of the night when most people have either left or fallen asleep.
He's at Kuroko's apartment and he might be drunk, but he's still aware of the fact that this being Kuroko's apartment means that it's Kagami's apartment too, and that Kagami's probably around to hear him saying this.
He doesn't care, rubbing his hand over his face and sighing quietly, his chest squeezing when he thinks about Himuro, and the way that they said goodbye to each other months ago, Himuro somehow convinced that Murasakibara would be better off without him.
"I love Muro-chin so much, more than I thought I could love anyone or anything," Murasakibara murmurs. "More than any kind of snacks I could buy. More than anything. It's so annoying that he doesn't get that."
Kuroko hums, propping his chin up with one hand and blinking sleepily at Murasakibara. "I don't know if I'm really qualified to help you, Murasakibara-kun."
Murasakibara sighs, leaning back against the couch and shutting his eyes. "S'okay. I don't think I can help myself, either. I love him but he won't listen to anything I have to say, so there's no way of telling him."
"Uh." Kagami coughs quietly. "I guess I could help? I could talk to him. He… asks about you sometimes."
Murasakibara sits up. "He does?"
"Just… little things," Kagami says, and he sounds unsure of himself, like maybe he isn't meant to be saying this, but Murasakibara doesn't mind, if it means that Himuro still thinks about him, or that Himuro still cares. "He just wants to know how you're doing. Maybe he's looking for proof that you're doing fine without him, the way he thought you would. I… don't really tell him much, because I know you'd hate that, and because it's not really my place to go in between you guys in the first place. If he really wants to, he can find out how you're doing himself."
"But he doesn't," Murasakibara sighs. "So I guess it doesn't matter that much in the end, huh?"
"I don't know about that," Kagami replies, but when Murasakibara prods at him, he doesn't say explain himself at all.
If it wasn't for all the alcohol, Murasakibara would be up all night. Instead, he ends up falling asleep on the couch and waking up with a sore neck and a dull headache from not drinking enough water. He makes his way to the kitchen to pour himself a glass, when a familiar voice makes him stop in his tracks.
"You didn't tell me that he'd be here." It's Himuro, standing right there in the kitchen.
"I said that he was over last night, and that you might want to come over," Kagami replies. "I thought you'd figure it out."
"Taiga, you have to prepare me for these things." Himuro sounds frustrated. "I can't just… walk into your apartment and see him sleeping there on the couch and then, what, move along with my life like I don't want to just reach over and stroke my fingers through his hair? Tuck him in? Fall asleep beside him?"
"You wouldn't both fit on the couch," Kagami says dismissively. "And what I'm saying is, maybe you don't just move along with your life like you don't want to do all of those things, because you obviously do."
"And what about Atsushi?" Himuro asks, and Murasakibara realises that just like Kagami doesn't tell him anything about Himuro, he doesn't tell Himuro anything about him either. It's something they need to work out on their own.
"I want it too," Murasakibara speaks up, walking into the kitchen. Himuro freezes up, turning to him with surprise. Murasakibara keeps his distance, standing in the entry of the kitchen and not moving any closer. "You didn't listen to me when I said it before, but at least listen to me now. I don't want anyone else, and I don't want any other kind of life. I just want to be with you. That's enough."
