There's always a period of silence after they've fought. It's the opposite of the calm before a storm; a frozen silence with anger still hanging so thick in the air that Atsushi can almost taste it, he could almost choke on it if he lets himself.

Tatsuya doesn't want to talk to him. He doesn't even want to look at Atsushi these days and that's fine. It's making Atsushi angry in return, because he doesn't know what else to do. He knows Tatsuya won't listen to him and take care of himself, but he doesn't know how he can take care of Tatsuya instead. He isn't good at dealing with delicate matters; he smashes his way through problems and perhaps it doesn't always work, but it's the only way he knows how and if Tatsuya decides that it's not good enough for him, if going through this argument enough times is what finally pushes him to leave, then—

Atsushi doesn't know what to do. It feels like a running theme these days, with Tatsuya.

He takes solace in the fact that Tatsuya isn't the one that's leaving. He's told Atsushi to leave him alone, he's pushed all that he can, but Atsushi is good at planting his feet and refusing to budge. It's how they've gotten this far. He's going to stand firm this time, too.

Tatsuya doesn't come to bed when Atsushi's in it, and gets out if he wakes when Atsushi joins him. Atsushi takes the couch, small and uncomfortable as it is, because he'd rather deal with that than let Tatsuya sleep on something uncomfortable when he's so tired and injured and still trying to drag himself through like none of it even matters.

It leaves Atsushi sore, but he stretches himself out in their bed when Tatsuya's out, his back protesting painfully, his face pressed against the mattress just so he won't groan.

Tatsuya finds him there when he gets home, and for the first time since losing the game, willingly enters a room with Atsushi already in it.

"Does it hurt?" Tatsuya asks, pressing his hand down on Atsushi's back.

"A little," Atsushi replies, hoping he can trade a truth for a truth. "Your arm?"

"It's getting better," Tatsuya replies.

The silence falls over them again, and Tatsuya draws a breath.

Atsushi speaks first. "I told the managers that if they don't keep both of us, I'm leaving."

"You can't do that," Tatsuya replies immediately.

"I did it," Atsushi shrugs. "I'm not playing, if I can't play with you. It's going to be too boring."

Tatsuya huffs out a quiet laugh. "You're so frustrating, Atsushi, you know that?"

"Yeah," Atsushi says softly. "Sorry. I just care about you. I'm not good at showing it like other people do."

"Yeah," Tatsuya repeats, sitting on the edge of the bed and resting his hand on Atsushi's back, and it feels like the ice in the air is beginning to thaw. "I guess that goes for both of us."
