It was hard, having to do this again.

Rin looked pretty similar the first time he was going to Australia, too…

But Haru knew he’d be happier this time. He could tell, from that radiant smile, from the light in his eyes. He looked hopeful.

“What’s that face for, Haru?” Rin asked, giving him a smirk.

Haru turned away, his cheeks reddening slightly. “I’m not making a face.”

“You are.”

“I’m not.”

“Aw, are you gonna miss me, Haru?” Rin said, practically singing and smirk still going strong as ever.

Despite not wanting to give Rin the satisfaction, a quiet “yes” ended up slipping from his mouth before he could turn away, face burning and not meeting Rin’s gaze.

“…Hey, Haru?”

Haru stayed quiet, slightly shifting his feet on the tiled airport floor.

Haru.”

And despite the crowds of people in the departure lounge around them, Rin moved even closer, cupping Haru’s chin in his hand and lifting his face ever so gently.

“…What…?” Haru grumbled embarrassedly, still not looking Rin in the eye.

“I-I’m going to miss you too, Haru.”

Surprised by Rin’s muffled-sounding words, Haru finally locked eyes with his boyfriend.

…Only to see his eyes growing a bloodshot red, tears prickling in the corners of them.

Haru gave a sigh, gently wrapping his arms around Rin (which wasn’t an easy task, considering the huge backpack on his shoulders).

“Don’t cry, Rin,” he muttered into his shoulder, not sure if Rin had even heard him through the din of the airport.

Rin gave a weak chuckle, hurriedly rubbing his sleeve over his eyes before wrapping his arms around Haru. “Yeah, sorry…”

They stayed like that for a few moments, wrapped in each other’s arms and breathing in each other’s scents, savoring it because they both knew that, being professional swimmers who lived oceans apart, they couldn’t be like this all the time. But Haru wasn’t worried about that. He knew that, as long as both he and Rin kept swimming, they would definitely see each other again.

Inhaling one more time, Haru finally let go of Rin, who didn’t seem all that pleased about it.

Haru smirked. “You’re the one making a face now.”

“I’m not!” Rin sputtered, cheeks tinging red.

“You…you should go now. You’ll be late,” Haru said, his smirk quickly fading away.
“You’re pouting again, Haru,” Rin said, quickly pressing a kiss to Haru’s cheek.

Haru looked away, because yes, he knew he was pouting, but what was he supposed to do about it? After all the times he’d had to say goodbye to Rin, Haru thought it’d get easier. Truth be told, it was still just as hard. It was hard saying goodbye to someone you loved, even if you knew you were going to see them again.

“Well, I’m off now!” Rin gave Haru a quick little hug before letting go, smirking. “Don’t slack off because I’m not there, Haru. You’d better keep up you’re timings, or I’m gonna beat you!”

Haru couldn’t stop a small smile from forming on his lips. “We’ll see about that.”

“Oh, we’ll definitely see!” Rin said, waggling his tongue the slightest bit before turning around, pulling his suitcase over to the check-in area. They’re eyes met one more time before Haru lost sight of Rin in the crowd, but he could’ve sworn Rin had been smiling.

Haru sighed, turning in the opposite direction and walking towards the airport’s exit. He felt that lingering sadness, of course, but he also felt something else. This…hopefulness. He knew Rin was swimming, and he knew Rin was happy, and that was honestly enough.

He’d wait until he saw Rin again.

(Hahh, this is probably the shittiest thing I've ever written :'D)
