there comes a time in every dragon’s life
when we’re slain

I’ve been told dragons don’t die of old age
that we’re never taken calmly into
the dark night

there’s always a knight
some bastard in rusty armor with a pointy stick
and a princess to save

i never even took a princess
but i’d watch them sometimes, how
they’d curl their hair and think
i could have been you, in another life

but there’s another knight
and you should be here to kill me
that pointy stick of yours so sharp
you’re the hero those princesses probably dream of

but you’re sleeping in my bed now,
and you say you don’t want to leave.
