      prayers biting red into your throat— like apples— like invitations—

      ( for you, in you,
           i enter eden and
                 devour temptation )

      you drape me with knowledge unperturbed,

      your edges, spread, a hidden garden
      your legs, coiled around my hips, a snake
      your lips, parted, teeth—fangs—bared, a seductive overture

      i capture them; i am reminded of
      the way you capture my fingers in your mouth
      like in them exist the scriptures of god
      by whom you can be saved

      we can be adam and eve
      a wasted paradise, the fall of man

      we are the creation of sin
