Day 0
To be fair, the first thing Sousuke did when he got home was take it out and leave the open jar in the back yard. He figured even if it was ‘lovingly’ raised for all that time, it would probably remember how to crawl out of the glass jar and back into the trees. After all, the thing was an insect and had that kinda thing drilled into its brain as an instinct, not so easily erased by Mikoshiba’s attempted domestication.
It was a beetle.
So he was remarkably surprised when later, as the sky got dark and grey with rainclouds, that the bettle was still sitting in it’s jar, climbing over it’s wooden block even though it’s entire world had been tilted sideways.
He would have left it there, but Sousuke would like to think that he wasn’t that heartless, and seeing as it was starting to rain, carefully tipped the jar back to rightness, screwed the lid back on, and took it inside.

Day 1
He tried the same thing the next day, with little success. The beetle stayed where it was, sitting uninterested on the block, waiting for… who knows what. But even after carefully extracting the beetle and trying to place it on a tree, it refused to let go of his fingers. This entire exercise took the better part of the day, and eventually, annoyed and tired, he brought the thing back inside. Again.
Again, Sousuke wasn’t a mean person. So after that failure of getting rid of it, he wondered if he needed to feed the bug anything. A quick search lead to about an hours’ worth of research to do with damn beetles, what they eat, and the best habitat for them, even breeding the things, which he backed out of real fast.
It was annoying and a damn waste of time, but it was better that it was annoying and alive than annoying and dead.
Stupid thing.
Though, the jar was apparently not that great of a thing to keep it in, the space or something to do with stressing the thing out. But it was a bug. And insect. Didn’t they like small places or something?
…Still, there was hardly any place to put food or water, and he knew they had an old fishtank somewhere, so he eventually ended up dumping the bug, the sand, it’s wood chip and the food into it and ignoring it for the rest of the day.

Day 2
Three days.
He’d been taking care of this dumb thing for three damn days and no matter how hard he tried it just. Wouldn’t. Leave.
Nothing worked. It wouldn’t let him go, and if he ever got it off, it’d just attempt to jump back on him and fall and look so pathetic it would have been damn mean to just leave it there.
…But, well, he had added more sand to the fish tank, the contents of the jar not being anywhere near enough to cover the bottom. He’d be heading back soon, and he still had the thing with him. And no way was he going to give it back to Mikoshiba considering the other’s plans for it.
And it wasn’t as if he was thinking of keeping it either, he’d try to let it out again tomorrow.
Right… Tomorrow, he thought, staring at the ‘beetle humidifier’ (wasn’t it just a spray bottle?!) he had bought without thinking.

Day 3
There were birds outside, and somehow, Sousuke didn’t trust them enough to let the beetle go. The things were just milling around, pecking the dirt and making a damn noise at ass in the morning.
He’d let the beetle go tomorrow, he reminds himself as he changes the jelly.
Tomorrow for sure.

Day 4
Of course he had forgotten that it was only a three day break, so he had shoved all this stuff back in his suitcase, carefully balanced relocated the beetle back into the Jar he came in, and put the aquarium in the case too.
It wasn’t until he was unpacking it in the dorm did he realise the magnitude of the stupid situation he got himself into.
No wait, it wasn’t until Rin came back and laughed so hard he cried that he did.
This was dumb.

Day 5
The problem with the tank sitting on his desk was that he really didn’t have all that much room anymore. But keeping it on the floor was out of the question, and using Rin’s desk was asking for trouble.
Another problem was that the beetle had taken to crawling right to the edge of the tank, and sitting against the glass at the point closest to him. It was kind of…. Weird. Cute. No, definitely weird. It literally did not move for the entire time he was there, and when he got up to move, it got up to move.
What, did it think he was Mikoshiba or something?

Day 16
Now was probably a good time to probably admit defeat and that he wasn’t able to let the stupid thing go. But this was getting ridiculous and with exams coming up, he was half wondering if he should just give it back to Mikoshiba (despite his earlier decision not to.)
Still, the beetle hadn’t died under his care, and it looked perfectly healthy (probably) so he could probably pass it off as…. Another beetle. That he found.
…And took care of. That he had spent far too much time and money on this thing than he intended to.
Goddamit.
