Bonus Round 2: Images

Please read the rules carefully before posting!
This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on June 23 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.
RULES
- Submit prompts in the form of a canon screencap from one of our nominated fandoms along with a ship. Screencaps can be from the anime or manga, as well as any other kind of offshoot media, e.g. official art, drama CD covers, light novel illustrations, magazine covers, photos from stage plays, and/or caps from games.
- Doujinshi, fan-made games or any other fan-created work should not be prompted, even if you receive permission. Only prompt official, canon artwork.
- Keep your prompt concise. Don't prompt a whole manga chapter, for example.
- Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Abe & Tajima). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Abe/Tajima). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
- Upload the cap somewhere (imgur works well) and post here with the images themselves or a link to them. Including a text-only summary of the image is encouraged.
- Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work inspired by the cap.
- Fills can be directly connected to the cap, e.g. panel redraws or writing fic that fleshes out the moment that was capped or that fleshes out what happened directly before/after, but fills can also be more indirectly linked. As long as the work is somehow inspired by the cap, it counts.
- Fills that are too long to fit in a single comment should have the rest of the fill placed as replies to the original fill comment. The subjects of these extra comments should be something like "part 2 of X" or "continued."
- Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

FILL: Team Kuramochi Youichi/Miyuki Kazuya, G
1005 words

Kazuya shifts in his bed, his small hands rubbing at his face and sitting up slowly. It’s a little colder than he remembers, and the bed is much more bigger too.
He pauses for a moment a little confused because, he’s not supposed to have small hands. He’s not supposed to be in his childhood bedroom. He’s supposed to be in the dorm rooms at school, he’s supposed to be 17, not 7 years old and too short to reach the floor.
He shoves his hands under the pillow for the broken pair of glasses and slips them on, smiling because a little tape and superglue can always fix things, and takes in his surroundings.
It’s his room, there’s the small collection of trophies collecting dust on a bookshelf. His catcher mitt carefully set on a chair along with his book bag. Kazuya blinks again, maybe it’s a dream.
That’s when he hears the soft voices coming from down the hallway, and he can’t help but slip out of the warm bed, small feet meeting the cold wooden floor and padding as quietly as he can to the door thats been left ajar.
Kazuya can feel his heart beating faster, a little bird wanting to soar soar soar, because, he knows this night, he knows those happy voices…
Mama…
His parents are in the kitchen talking warmly over cups of coffee about his surprise party at the end of the week. Kazuya wants to take off running to them. He wants to run and wrap his arms around his mother’s waist and never let go. He wants to keep this warmth and the smell of coffee at 2am forever. He wants to grow up with his house full of late night laughter and teasing kisses to his and his fathers cheek. Kazuya can feel the way his heart is so so full, so full of hope and sadness, and bittersweet happiness, can feel the way the corners of his eyes burn with unshed tears.
But he can’t.
You cannot change the past.
He wasn’t supposed to be awake that night, he’s not supposed to know what happens on that Sunday night when his father squeezes him tight, tears wet against his neck as his heart shatters with his father’s broken words. He’s not supposed to know she won’t come back after he turns 8 years old. He’s not supposed to know that that was the last night they’d be awake together, that after that night his father slowly starts to grow cold and distance. The way Kazuya devotes his time to a sport and games his father never shows up to.
Kazuya can’t help but let out a wet hiccup and try and force the unwanted feelings back down, but he’s 7.
He’s just a child.
That’s when he can hear the way his parents quiet down, coffee mugs being set on the countertop and then, she’s there.
She’s there and she’s warm and soft and alive. She’s embracing every inch of his tiny body and he can’t hold it in anymore. He’s 7 and those walls he spent years building up are barely a foundation at this age and it’s spilling, its overflowing.
And Kazuya
cries
He cries and it’s soulful and heartbreaking and his hands are so small that he can’t hold onto her tighter so he cries even more. Kazuya rubs his face into soft hair that tangles into his glasses and he pushes them up and away, pressing his face into her chest, ear pressed to listen to the steady beat inside of her.
Kazuya can feel soft hands on his face, pushing up his bangs and thumbs wiping away at his tears. He can see her mouth moving, but there aren’t any sounds that he can hear. He wants to sob again, because he thought maybe, just maybe, he could hear her voice speaking to him again, things would be okay and--
“Don’t you cry no more”
It’s an old English song she’s singing. He knows his eyes are wide and wet as he hears her voice low, honey, and aquamarine, and he’s being picked up into her arms, the smell of the jasmine shampoo his father always says smells too girly, thick in his nose as her hair moves. And for a moment, his body is at rest, his knees tucked into her side as she carries him back to his bed.
Kazuya can hear her place his glasses on the night table, and his mother is sitting on the bed next to him, warm fingers carding through his hair, her voice a soft music box as she continues to sing softly.
He dares.
“Don’t leave...don’t go to the store Sunday. Stay home, or teach me to cook. But please just don’t...leave.”
Her eyes are honey brown and confused, but she nods and promises with a smile and sealed with a kiss to his forehead. Kazuya doesn’t let go of her night gown though.
He’s just a child afterall.
“Stay Mama? I had a bad dream..”
His mother pretends to debate in her head about staying but, Kazuya is looking up with a quiet desperation that doesn’t seem right for a 7 year old. So she stays. The bed is warm and they giggle into the morning hours, Kazuya not wanting to fall asleep in this dream world, or time skip, whatever this is.
But he does. He falls into exhaustion because he’s 7 and his mother is a warm, soothing presence and the smell of jasmine lulls him to sleep, her hand passing over his eyes as he lets out a pure laugh and huffs because each time it gets harder to open them until finally, he falls asleep to her voice.
To her soft whisper of, “I’m proud of you Kazuya.”
She didn’t leave that Sunday, Kazuya finds out when he awakes, tears falling freely as he looks up at the ceiling of his dorm room.
But, you can’t change what’s meant to happen afterall.
