Bonus Round 2: Images

Bonus Round 2: Images

Back by popular demand, this round uses official canon artwork as fodder for speculation and extrapolation.
Please read the rules carefully before posting!

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on June 23 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Submit prompts in the form of a canon screencap from one of our nominated fandoms along with a ship. Screencaps can be from the anime or manga, as well as any other kind of offshoot media, e.g. official art, drama CD covers, light novel illustrations, magazine covers, photos from stage plays, and/or caps from games.
    • Doujinshi, fan-made games or any other fan-created work should not be prompted, even if you receive permission. Only prompt official, canon artwork.
    • Keep your prompt concise. Don't prompt a whole manga chapter, for example.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Abe & Tajima). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Abe/Tajima). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
    • Upload the cap somewhere (imgur works well) and post here with the images themselves or a link to them. Including a text-only summary of the image is encouraged.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work inspired by the cap.
    • Fills can be directly connected to the cap, e.g. panel redraws or writing fic that fleshes out the moment that was capped or that fleshes out what happened directly before/after, but fills can also be more indirectly linked. As long as the work is somehow inspired by the cap, it counts.
    • Fills that are too long to fit in a single comment should have the rest of the fill placed as replies to the original fill comment. The subjects of these extra comments should be something like "part 2 of X" or "continued."
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each

Tobio's back hit the wall with an audible thump, but Tooru did not stop pushing. Fingers dug deep into his hip, pinning, bruising, as his smiling mouth chased Tobio's for a kiss with too many teeth. Tobio shuddered as his lip split, coppery tang spreading on both of their tongues as they breathlessly kissed.

"First blood," Tooru hissed in triumph, his mouth sliding down the elegant line of Tobio's arched neck. It wouldn't be the last blood he spilled today, he swore, as he bit dark welts along the pale skin of Tobio's throat. His opponent shivered and finally moaned, just as the blaring trumpets and stomping feet of the crowd in the amphitheatre above them reached a fever pitch.

Tooru was already backing away, taunting smile vanishing beneath the plumed helmet he slid on. His blood thrummed with excitement – this was just a taste. For him, the real game was about to begin.

Tobio licked his lips and panted, "I'm going to defeat you."

It might have been more threatening if not for his humiliated expression, trembling body still pressed against the wall, waiting, wanting.

Tooru's manic smile gleamed through the shadow of his visor grill.

For that, I'm going to pulverize you.

(But it was still true, and on some level maybe they both felt it coming.)

Tobio had the raw talent of a centurion, a natural-born instinct for combat that could not be taught. He was catching up in leaps and bounds.

It was his mental fortitude that crumbled all too easily.

"It won't be today," Tooru promised.

-x-

It had been loud enough beneath the stands, but the roar of the crowd in the Colosseum was deafening on the surface.

The gladiators paced, each with their gladius drawn, shield arm raised warily to guard against the other. The hot sand shifted beneath their sandals. The afternoon heat could make or break them. There would be no gimmicks in today's game – no lions from the bestiary, no allies, no scripted surprises to shock the crowd. Just every eye in Rome riveted on the two men in the ring.

Tooru stalked in a tight circle, wicked eyes sharp with focus through the shade of his visor. He was a crowd favorite. They loved him for his story: once a prisoner of war, now a successful gladiator sought after by the legion, rumored to have turned down even the Emperor's offer of freedom for his sheer love of the games. They loved a winner, but most of all, they loved how clever and cruel he could be.

Tobio was the underdog, an unlucky mercenary convicted of treason and thrown to the mercy of the games, but finally grown enough to provide a real challenge to a veteran like Tooru. His strength was also his weakness – his single-minded focus on victory that blinded him to everything else.

Sweat trickled down Tooru's shirtless back. Beads of perspiration made his damp hair stick to his forehead; he blinked back the sting of salt, refusing to break eye contact with Tobio.

Wait for an opening. Outlast him.

Across from him, Tobio made a small growl of impatience, and shrugged his shoulders against the heavy weight of the shield and sword. Tooru lunged without hesitation, knocking his blade against Tobio's hoplon with enough force to send numbing vibrations up through his elbow.

Tooru's grin bared more teeth.

He didn't expect the searing touch of metal clipping his side simultaneously; reflex pulled Tooru gracefully aside, but not before dark red welled from the shallow gash and spattered the sand between them.

"First blood," Tobio murmured.

"Brat," Tooru spat with venom.

Tooru backed away, calculating rapidly. He'd fallen for a simple ruse, and now his strength would flag quickly as he lost blood; he could no longer count on his endurance.

He faltered a step, and feigned a gasp of pain. Tobio was wary of his wounded act, but circled closer, closer still, eager to land the finishing blow, to win.

Tooru's gladius darted out, but Tobio parried it with his shield. The bone handle tore from Tooru's hand and flew uselessly across the sand.

Tobio even had the nerve to smirk.

Arrogant brat, Tooru thought, as he raised his hoplon.

The round shields crashed together with a resounding crack.

Tooru used both arms and shouldered all his weight into it, gritting his teeth in a snarl. Tobio was forced to drop his sword just to hold onto his shield. The crowd screamed in a frenzy as the gladiators grappled, neither willing to give an inch of ground as they pushed against each other.

Tobio was gasping something, but Tooru was too high on combat to hear him. With a peal of wild laughter, Tooru aimed a sharp kick at Tobio's thigh, forcing him to his knees. As Tobio pitched forward and lost his grip on the hoplon, Tooru swung his shield up to crash against Tobio's chin.

His battered helmet was sent flying. The burnished metal flashed in the sunlight as it tumbled aside. The startled look in those wide blue eyes was too perfect.

Before the blood even began to drip from the gash in his chin, Tooru clubbed him upside the head with the shield, dropping him into the sand.

He planted a sandal on Tobio's chest, cocked one hand on his hip, and raised his shield in victory to the swell of the crowd. It was over.

His eyes flicked down through his visor grill, studying the defeated opponent panting beneath him. Tobio stared dazedly back up at him through a swollen eye, bruises dark against his cheekbone.

Tooru's gaze lingered instead on the marks he'd left, the bites on his pulsing throat and the flayed skin dripping red from his jawbone. (He still had the taste of that red on his lips.)

Tobio was greedy, always wanting more.

"It would be a shame to kill you now," he remarked, "right when you were finally getting interesting."

The smile on his lips suggested he felt otherwise. And Tooru turned away, to seek Emperor Wakatoshi in the crowd, and awaited the signal of thumbs up or thumbs down to seal both of their intertwined fates.

(CUPS HANDS TO MOUTH AND YELLS) NICE

What can I say, I love seeing them just wail at each other. I especially love Tobio getting first blood but still not being good enough to beat Oikawa this day. And I especially, especially love that I'm not sure if I want Emperor Waka to give the thumbs up or thumbs down :')
