Bonus Round 3: Gift Tags

Bonus Round 3: Gift Tags

Feeling generous? In this round, you get to give creative gifts as prompts.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on July 7 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Submit prompts as a gift tag in the format below. You can specify the size and a characteristic of the gift, who the sender is, who the recipient is, and a one or two sentence note from the sender to the recipient. Descriptions of the package and the included note don’t have to be explicit, see below.
    • Package: medium sized cube, rattles
      From: Kageyama Tobio
      To: Hinata Shouyou
Note: These will help you get better.
    • Envelope: manila, 12''x17'', very thick and heavy
      From: Tezuka Kunimitsu
      To: Kinjou Shingo
Note: Enclosed - Play without regrets!
  • Your prompt MUST include a relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Riko & Momoi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Riko/Momoi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work. Fillers can get creative with how to interpret the prompt: your fill can be about the character receiving the gift, one or both characters using the gift, what prompted the sender to send the gift—the physical gift itself can even be excluded from your fill. What’s important is that the gift tag is clearly the inspiration for your fill.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Kinjou was putting breakfast away when he heard a knock on the door. He went to open it, expecting a classmate, Arakita perhaps, but instead was confronted by a young woman with a bouquet wrapped in white paper in one hand and a clipboard in the other.

“Good morning. Are you Kinjou?” she asked, peering down at the clipboard. He noticed the visor she was wearing read 'ReinCarnation,' bright yellow stitching on green fabric.

“I am,” he replied. “Good morning.”

“Sign here, please.” She passed him the clipboard and he dutifully signed. She looked at his signature and perked up. “Thank you! These are for you.” She extended the bouquet and he took it, cradling it awkwardly in one arm. “Have a nice day!”

“Have a nice day,” he echoed, and slowly closed the door. He still had time before his next class, so he rummaged around his kitchen until he found a plastic pitcher that looked like it would hold the bouquet. There was a white card nestled amongst the bright flowers, and he plucked it out to read it.

To Kinjou

From Fukutomi

There was nothing else written, nothing to explain why Fukutomi had sent him flowers out of the blue, a week into the first term of university. He unwrapped the flowers and placed them in the pitcher of water, and went to call Fukutomi.

“Hello, this is Fukutomi Juichi speaking.”

“Good morning, Fukutomi, this is Kinjou.”

“I know. I have your number saved on my phone.” Kinjou suppressed a snort at Fukutomi's matter-of-fact tone.

“I was calling to say that I got your flowers. Thank you, Fukutomi, it was very kind of you.” He thought he heard a sharp intake of breath on the other end of the line. There were a few seconds of silence.

“They mean something, you know,” Fukutomi said in a rush.

“Yes,” came the reply, halfway between a statement and a question.

“The gladiolus represents strength of character, and the amaranth means tenaciousness. The garlic is for courage, while the sweet alyssum is for 'worth beyond beauty'. They mean something.” Kinjou took all this in.

“I had no idea you were so eloquent, Fukutomi,” he teased.

“I am not.” Fukutomi sounded gruff. “It is the flowers.”

“Of course,” Kinjou replied, smiling now. “Thank you again, Fukutomi.”

“You are most welcome, Kinjou.”

---

A week later, Fukutomi received a bouquet of his own, made up of jonquil, amethyst, amaranth, and cedar. There was a note.

This means something too.

according to the website i used, jonquil stands for 'return of affections,' amethyst for 'admiration,' and cedar for 'strength.' i put the amaranth in there a) for consistency and b) bc i feel they both admire that quality in each other. kinjou's bouquet is less balanced than fukutomi's though. maybe they should go to flower arranging classes together

Thank you! I really love this, especially Kinjou's answer and Fukutomi denying being eloquent! "It is the flowers" is so perfect and so HIM (and I still imagine him taking forever to put it together just right haha.) I would be so there for them learning flower arranging together!
