Bonus Round 3: Gift Tags

Bonus Round 3: Gift Tags

Feeling generous? In this round, you get to give creative gifts as prompts.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on July 7 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Submit prompts as a gift tag in the format below. You can specify the size and a characteristic of the gift, who the sender is, who the recipient is, and a one or two sentence note from the sender to the recipient. Descriptions of the package and the included note don’t have to be explicit, see below.
    • Package: medium sized cube, rattles
      From: Kageyama Tobio
      To: Hinata Shouyou
Note: These will help you get better.
    • Envelope: manila, 12''x17'', very thick and heavy
      From: Tezuka Kunimitsu
      To: Kinjou Shingo
Note: Enclosed - Play without regrets!
  • Your prompt MUST include a relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Riko & Momoi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Riko/Momoi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work. Fillers can get creative with how to interpret the prompt: your fill can be about the character receiving the gift, one or both characters using the gift, what prompted the sender to send the gift—the physical gift itself can even be excluded from your fill. What’s important is that the gift tag is clearly the inspiration for your fill.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

no tags only excessive pinterest use and lots of tears and author projection
1150 words KAT I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY, I'M SO EMBARRASSED

The worst thing to ever happen in Oishi’s life is his boyfriend’s discovery of pinterest.

At first, it’s cute and pleasant. The house blooms with color and paper flowers, antique mason jars and tiny homemade terrariums, and massive organization. Their cat gains a cute little bow tie and a bell with a sweet jingle. Even his fish tank gets an upgrade and the shelf holding all the food and supplies changes and it’s much easier to get through his daily routine then before.

And for the first few months, that’s fine. Eiji is happy and Oishi’s fish are happy and Oishi himself is happy that everyone is happy. Then Oishi’s birthday comes.

“I reeeally think that you should have a party!” An ipad is shoved in Oishi’s face with countless birthday party ideas. “We finally have a house and the space and I want to celebrate my boyfriend’s birth.”

“I don’t know,” Oishi uses his finger to scroll the ideas, raising an eyebrow at the body paint-based party idea but also swiftly pins the wine-tasting party idea. “With both our jobs, it would be hard to plan a party like these. You don’t have to spoil me, I’d be happy to have a just quiet night with you.”

Distracted by outrageous party ideas, he completely misses is the slight narrow of his boyfriend’s eyes and the smirk on his face.

-

A week later, and a week before Oishi’s birthday, Eiji confronts him with the most extensive party planning outline ever. It’s not only nine pages long, complete with instructions and pictures, but also neatly stapled and place inside an old clearfile of The Chocolates. That part makes him smile. The actual outline doesn’t.

“Eiji...all of this is so…”

“Wonderful? I know!!” The red head is wearing his most hopeful and excited expression and Oishi knows he’s stuck. Say something bad and he’ll be stuck with a pouting Eiji for who knows how long and really...he’s never seen him work so hard on something that wasn’t for him.

He glances at the outline again and spots something odd.

“What is...corn hole?”

“Oh! That!” Eiji grabs his ipad and swipes a few times. “It’s a game! I saw it all over the party boards...apparently it’s really easy to make which is good because the sets are so expensive.”

The pictures show a set of wooden boxes propped up with a hole in center. Oishi’s learned years before it’s best not to ask about certain things and that survival instinct kicks in again and he just nods.

“It’s a shame though...it takes about 12 plus hours of work to make and with filming this week, I really can’t fit it in. I added it there on a whim because it would really fit in with the plan. I’ve finished almost everything else, so it should be a good time regardless!!”

Eiji kisses his cheek and walks off to start dinner. Oishi watches him for a moment, chin leaning on his palm, then looks back at the ipad.

Well, how hard could it be?

-

The instructions, like Eiji said, are simple enough. But Oishi’s never been good with wood work and calls in all the favors he can think of. Tezuka agrees to make the wood frames and Fuji recommends him a good paint store. That leaves the beanbags themselves, to which Oishi calls Inui about.

“Remember that one time you handstitched the hole in my jersey...and also the bandanas you made Kaidoh?” Oishi slides over a mini planter that Eiji had made a month ago, full of fresh and interesting herbs he knows Inui would like. “Think you can teach me?”

“Is that orange mint?”

Oishi smiles. Inui fixes his glasses.

“Arrangements can be made.”

-

An hour into measuring and cutting fabric, Oishi regrets everything.

“Oishi. If you want regulation-sized beanbags, you need to be careful with your cutting. The fabric is 3mm off.” He holds up the current piece of fabric, pointing to the “3mm” mistake. Oishi grips his scissors and thinks about Eiji’s smile.

“Cut it again please.”

-

“Isn’t 16oz too heavy for beanbags? They’re barely staying closed.”

Inui sends him the most offended look over the scale they’re weighing the bags on. “Regulation says 16oz. They have to be exactly 16 oz.”

If Oishi had a 100 yen for every time he heard “regulation” in the past couple hours, he would be at least 10000 yen richer.

-

Five bandages, a lot of internal cursing, and one moment of almost actually stabbing Inui with his needle, Oishi finishes all eight beanbags. He also finishes all the beers in their fridge and he’s only slight concerned that the cat is playing with one of the empty cans, rolling it across the floor.

Inui inspects each bag, measuring the length and weighing them one last time on the scale. He takes notes, but Oishi can’t see them. He knows that Eiji is due home from filming soon and that they needed to clean up, lest they ruin the surprise...for his own party.

Finally, Inui sits up and crosses his arms. Oishi holds his breath.

“They aren’t perfect...but they are regulation. They’ll pass.”

Oishi sighs in relief. He also maybe cries, but just a little bit.

-

Oishi’s checking the paint, seeing if it’s dry and ready to be moved out to surprise Eiji tomorrow when he gets home, when he takes in the full set. Tezuka made the boxes so wonderfully and the shade of blue and red that Fuji recommended look very nice.

And of course, the beanbags are immpecable. He allows himself a moment of Pride and pats himself on the back. Then the doorbell rings.

There’s a package, a rather large and heavy package, addressed to him. With Eiji out of town until tomorrow, he figures it’s not from him. Eiji likes to see his reactions live and in person, ready for a hug or kiss, depending on the gift. So Oishi hauls it in, careful of the jingling following right at his heels.

Opening the box, the cat hops in it immediately, pawing at the bubble wrap. He snaps a quick picture with his phone before removing it and opening the envelope on top.

To: Oishi! the note inside reads, an early present for your party!! ☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆ ;} From, Eiji!

Pleasantly surprised, Oishi removes the bubble wrap and freezes.

It’s a corn hole set.

This time, he definitely cries.

(“Hey...Oishi?”

“Yeah?”

“Why does it smell like burning outside?”

“Oh...Uh, our neighbors were cooking. It’s fine!”

“Ahhh okay! Well, when the smell goes away, let’s play some cornhole!”

“Oh, I think they’re going to be cooking all night so we definitely shouldn’t do that. Sorry!”

“Aww...but the set I bought you is so nice- wait, Oishi? Oishi why are you crying??”)
