FILL: TEAM KOZUME KENMA/KUROO TETSUROU, T
Major character death
“Wait, what?”
“Make sure they don’t write ‘rest in peace’ on your gravestone. Got it?”
“Ryou-san, what --”
“I said, got it?”
“Yes, Ryou-san.”
Kuramochi’s first words, in the afterlife, are “Fucking hell.”
“Not really,” a familiar voice says, and Kuramochi manages to turn his head -- the vertebrae in his neck creak and slide against each other, and it’s a wholly bizarre sensation.
“Ryou-san?” he groans. “I feel awful.”
“That’s because you’re dead,” Ryousuke answers. Ryousuke’s voice is, as ever, honey-smooth and dark as molasses. The sound of it distracts Kuramochi from the lingering stiffness in his neck and shoulders, the heavy, limp feeling of his limbs. His mouth tastes like sawdust and rust.
“I’m wh --” Kuramochi starts to ask, and then he’s hit with a memory so hard it’s like the truck again, and he relives it (re-dies it?), flying through the air, like he’s diving for a run but with a blossom of pain exploding along his back and side, the coppery taste of blood in his mouth, hears the crunch of impact and the second, quieter, more devastating crunch when he lands and everything below his shoulders goes numb.
“Ouch,” he says, purely out of instinct, because he realizes that despite the stiffness in his body and the tender softness of a kaleidoscope of bruises, none of it actually hurts.
He looks around, expecting to find that he’s laying on some kind of raised dais in an underground dungeon, surrounded by torches and mystical runes. Or something.
Instead, he’s in Ryousuke’s dorm room, on a bed with curiously unrumpled sheets. Ryousuke himself is sitting primly on his desk, knees and hands crossed, with that same unsettling little smile he’s always had.
“I’m dead,” Kuramochi says slowly.
Ryousuke’s eyebrows raise a fraction. “Yes.”
“And… are you dead?”
This time, it’s not just the eyebrows -- Ryousuke’s entire face shifts, his grin widens and his eyes go dark. “For quite a while now, yes.”
Kuramochi nods, as if this all makes perfect sense, because it’s easier than actually thinking about it and possibly going crazy. Definitely going crazy. More crazy.
“Okay,” he says. “That’s… cool, I guess.” What else is he supposed to say.
Ryousuke hops off the desk, and crosses the small room in just two strides. Kuramochi manages to lever his body into a sitting position -- somehow, god, it feels weird -- and Ryousuke reaches out to trail a finger along Kuramochi’s jaw. The contacts sizzles electric and Kuramochi feels the need to gulp.
“Unfortunately,” Ryousuke says, in that molasses-dark voice of his, “neither of us have been given the chance to rest in peace.” He spreads his arms, and his aura takes on a sort of powerful timbre that makes Kuramochi squirm under the pressure. “Welcome to the Skeleton War.”
