Just for some minor info: "cape" means a person with powers. The powers are going off of the Worm: Parahumans AU

Nishinoya looked up from his computer at the sound of Asahi walking into his bedroom, freshly showered and wearing his pajamas. The look Asahi gave, his jaw set and his eyes downturned, showed that he didn’t need to see what was on the laptop screen to know exactly what Nishinoya was reading.
Nishinoya averted his eyes from Asahi’s shamefully, worrying his bottom lip.
“…Don’t give me that look, Asahi…”
Asahi just sighed, drying the rest of his hair to give his hands something to do. He grabbed the black elastic off of his wrist to tie his hair back loosely, and moved to assemble his gear for tomorrow. He kept his back to Nishinoya, still perched casually on his bed, but he wasn’t intent on dropping the subject that hung around them like a heavy fog, even if he wasn’t the most confrontational of people.
“…Noya, no matter how many times you look at that information page, it’s not going to change.”
Noya clicked his tongue. “I know that. Doesn’t hurt to make sure I know every detail of his power though. You can never be too careful.”
Asahi giggled under his breath, laying out his mask and his belt on the low dresser. Nishinoya had already laid his suit and his mask down on the computer chair hours ago, the first warning that he wasn’t exactly in his element. Asahi couldn’t think of a single time in the four years he’s known him that Nishinoya didn’t just grab his suit from somewhere off of his floor in the time that he needed it.
“Nishinoya Yuu, doing extensive research on another Cape before a battle? Are you really Noya, or some cheap imposter?” Asahi said lightheartedly.
Of course it was meant as a joke, and usually Noya would be laughing and coming up with his own retort to Asahi’s meager attempt at humor right about now. Instead, Asahi received none of that.
Noya usually didn’t let silence linger too long, if he could help it. Asahi was used to him filling any gaps with his enthusiastic ideas or boisterous jokes. Even if they settled into silence between the two of them, doing their own work, it was always comfortable and pleasant.
The silence between them now was uncomfortable. Suffocating. Disquieting. It made him anxious.
Nishinoya wasn’t an idiot. He did a fair amount of research when it came to anyone they’d be facing because, even if his fighting style was spontaneous, he needed to know what kind of power he’d be up against. His own power could be versatile if he needed it to be, but exactly what kind of versatility was needed he determined pretty quickly. He never spent more than a couple minutes getting the gist of someone else’s power before he knew what he needed to do.
Nishinoya had been reading the information on Oblivion and his power for the past three days.
Asahi turned to face Nishinoya, his hands leaning back on the dresser behind him. Before Asahi could open his mouth, Nishinoya muttered the one phrase that Asahi knew deep in his bones, but was too afraid to articulate.
“…Asahi, I don’t think we can beat him.”
Asahi couldn’t think of a reply. Not a good one, anyway. He could lie, and say that they weren’t going to lose… but numbers didn’t lie. As it stood, according to Kiyoko’s power, they had a merely 12% chance of defeating Oblivion and his crew with all of their lives intact. It was 26% if you counted some of their members dying in the process. Woefully, tragically low odds.
Asahi had seen Nishinoya do a multitude of things in their experiences together. He’s seen him put his life in danger more times than he could count on his hands, alone. He had seen Noya try to race one of Tanaka’s energy blasts once, only to misjudge how fast he was transporting when he got to the wall and crashed right through the concrete from his momentum. Hell, he’s seen him sweating through a too-big button-down shirt when he showed up at his door and screeched something about going on a date with him while throwing a bouquet in his face.
Nothing—nothing—could have prepared him for seeing Noya cry, overwhelmed by fear.
He had to think it was the situation that prompted his next move, because without thinking he kneeled in front of this kid and cupped his face with his hands. His cheeks were warm, flushed with red and stained with tracks of tears.
“Noya, look at me.” He was surprised by the authority in his own voice.
When Noya’s eyes reluctantly dragged up to his, they were rimmed with red and shiny with moisture. Asahi felt his heart ache, but he didn’t break eye contact.
“We are going to win, do you hear me? You’re strong, you’re so strong Nishinoya. I know you can do this, because you are a force to be reckoned with. Our whole team has been preparing for this since the day we knew he and the rest of his crew were coming to the city. And if you feel like you can’t keep going? I’ll be there to protect you, understand? I will do everything in my power to make sure you keep going, even if it kills me. And this is coming from me. Have you ever heard me be this confident in my entire life?”
Noya giggled around a hiccup and a few more tears at that, his hands coming over Asahi’s own to intertwine their fingers.
Asahi felt himself smile at the feeling of Noya’s hands on his own and the sound of his laughter. “Do you get it now? You’re too important to me to lose, and I’ll be damned if I let that happen. I won’t let that happen to any one of us… but especially not you.”
Noya exhaled all the air that he had been holding at once, wiping his eyes and his nose roughly with his forearm. “You’re right, Asahi. We have too many people depending on us to be moping around like this! Not just us, but regular people too! Your mom, my mom and dad, Tanaka Nee-san, everyone! We can’t let them down! Who gives a crap if the odds are at 12%? That’s still better than none!”
Before Asahi could respond, he felt himself toppling over as Noya barreled into his chest. His lips were on Asahi’s before his head hit the floor, Asahi bubbling out a shocked laugh.
Asahi felt a warmth that spread throughout his entire body when he saw the smile Noya wore on his face above him, full of love and gratitude.
“Thank you, Asahi,” Noya whispered, grabbing Asahi’s hand gently to kiss the center of his palm. “For that kick in the ass. I needed that.”
Asahi carded his fingers through Noya’s un-styled hair with a fond grin. “You do it so much for me, I thought I should return the favor.”
Noya reached down again to fit his lips against his once more. They didn’t get up from the floor for a while after that.
