Bonus Round 6: Remixes

The event's almost over, and you've made it this far, congrats! This round encourages you to look back at everything the SASO has made and use it as inspiration.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on August 18 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES

• Choose a fanwork created by other participants in a previous main or bonus round of SASO and create a new piece based on it. You could create a fanart of another work, an FST inspired by a piece’s style, retell another person’s fanfic from another point of view, create a new fanfic inspired by a great piece of art... go wild!
• You cannot remix your teammates' works.
• You must have permission from the original creator. There's a blanket permissions post here (feel free to add yourself to it!), or you can leave a comment on their original post asking for permission.
• You must include the dreamwidth link to the original work in your post.
• Since all fills are based on previous works, there will be no prompts for this round. Simply post your fill as a comment in response to this post.
• Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Required Work Minimums:

• 400 words (prose)
• 400px by 400px (art)
• 14 lines (poetry)

There is no max work cap.

SCORING

These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many fills as you want!

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

remix of winterstuck's fill

When Shuuzo wakes from his dreams, it feels like he's been underwater all night and he's finally breaking the surface.

He gasps for breath and his lungs burn with the exertion, like he hasn't had oxygen in far too long. His sheets pool around him and he squeezes his eyes shut, presses the heel of his hand to his forehead, and he isn't sure if he's trying to hold the dream where it is for a little longer, suspended somewhere at the very forefront of his mind, or if he's trying to stop it from getting back in.

It doesn't matter, when it's gone in a matter of seconds anyway, like water slipping through his fingers. He's left with none of the details but the raw ache remains, throbbing in his forehead, in his fingertips, in his chest.

His dreams of Akashi feel too real and distance does nothing to stop them. It doesn't matter if he's in his bedroom at home in Japan, or if he's in a less familiar bed on the other side of the ocean, in America. The dreams come for him all the same and they eat at him, until he doesn't know how much he has left for them to take from him.

He dreams of Akashi's smile, when it was something that he saw more often. He dreams of Akashi's radiance, and dreams of the days when they were both filled with hope. He dreams of the warmth that they could share, before uncertainty and fear came to suck it all away.

On particularly bad nights, he dreams of the cracks in Akashi's smile and relives the experience of watching them appear, one at a time while being unable to do anything about it. He dreams of the days he would return to practice after taking time off to tend to his father, and realising how much had changed in his absence. He remembers the way that each time it happened, the changes would feel that much more severe.

He dreams of all the things that he could have done, in another life, under another set of circumstances. The things he could have said, the ways he could have protected that smile and made sure that it continued to shine.

But it's too late for any of that now, and Shuuzo knows it.

All he has left are his dreams, rolling away like the receding tide.
