Bonus Round 1: AUs

AUs

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

This popular round is back once again! To begin this year's SASO, we encourage you to let your mind run wild with alternate ideas and settings.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with an alternate universe idea, along with a ship from one of our nominated fandoms. There's a comment template below for your convenience.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Izumi & Sakaeguchi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Izumi/Sakaeguchi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • An AU can be a canon divergence, e.g. "what if [character] was the Team Captain instead of the canon captain character?", or a completely different setting altogether, e.g., pop idol AU, coffee shop AU, superheroes AU, etc.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post).

I'm so happy someone prompted Atobe/Jirou. This is one of my favorite ships for both of them.

***

The problem with Fools, or at least good ones, Atobe thought, was that they weren't actually fools at all. On the contrary, he was fairly certain that any Fool that rose through the ranks high enough to serve the crown prince was about as far from a fool as it was possible to be.

Just take his Fool for instance. Half the time, Jirou seemed to be asleep, and yet days or weeks later, he could recount every detail of a conversation that had happened while he was by all appearances dead to the world. No matter how many times it happened, Atobe had never gotten used to it. It was too easy to be lulled into a false sense of security around his Fool, and easier still to have one's folly revealed later.

That was the other problem with Fools. No minister, clerk, diplomat, or anyone else Atobe crossed paths with regularly would dare criticize the crown prince openly. At most, he might hear a slight murmur of disagreement framed as a suggestion and buried under so many layers of formality that it barely resembled its original intent. But the Fools were exempt from such regulation. Since everyone knew that a fool spoke nothing but nonsense, a Fool could speak their mind without consequence.

And as infuriating as that should have been, and often was, Atobe also found it strangely refreshing. In a place and a time where every movement was choreographed and every statement was polished and rehearsed and polished again until barely any substance remained, there was something welcome about the spontaneity of the Fool, even if his words were teasing or criticizing as often as not.

But it wasn't just in public that he welcomed the company of his Fool. At night when the doors to his chambers closed behind him and he shed the formality of rank along with the weight of his formal robes, it was always Jirou who was waiting for him in his bedchamber. Atobe didn't know what secret passage allowed him to slip inside past the guards, and he had never had the heart to ask, even if doing so put his safety at risk.

Tonight, like most nights, Jirou was lying on his bed, his gaudy jester's clothing in an untidy pile on the floor. He appeared to asleep, but even Atobe couldn't tell whether his sleep was real or feigned. Atobe could have called out if he had truly wanted to know, but it was far more satisfying to let his dressing gown slip from his shoulders, slide beneath the covers, and wait to see which side of his Fool was awaiting him that night.

probably

I'M GLAD YOU LIKED IT

I tend to play around with different styles a lot, especially during SASO, but this is definitely my favorite and what I tend to default to, so I'm glad it worked for you.

I loved writing Jirou in this, because the jester/Fool role feels like it fits him perfectly, seemingly simple on the outside, but a lot sharper underneath than people give him credit for. And of course Jirou isn't intimidated at all by Atobe's rank.

(and heh, technically you read the Haru/Kazu soulmarks fill I did before this)

NO UR RITE the style was just somehow so different from the other one .. and ... idk i wrote this comment at four am .... sry .......

AND I AGREE part of why i love atobe/jirou so much is that jirou just gets away with being himself and atobe lets him do that out of fondness :''''DDDDDDDD
