Bonus Round 1: AUs

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).
Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)
RULES
- Submit prompts by commenting to this post with an alternate universe idea, along with a ship from one of our nominated fandoms. There's a comment template below for your convenience.
- Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Izumi & Sakaeguchi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Izumi/Sakaeguchi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
- An AU can be a canon divergence, e.g. "what if [character] was the Team Captain instead of the canon captain character?", or a completely different setting altogether, e.g., pop idol AU, coffee shop AU, superheroes AU, etc.
- Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
- Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

“Relax your shoulders.”
“I already have.”
“More.” Shirakawa glares at Ryousuke, and shifts his shoulders a little. He doesn’t know what Ryousuke means, his shoulders are plenty loose, thank you. Maybe he shouldn’t have turned Narumiya down and gone to Inashiro, but he’s here at Seidou, being laughed at by Miyuki and bullied by senpai shorter than him.
“Shirawaka, loosen up or I’ll break your shoulders to show you how loose they can be.” Ryousuke’s voice is deadly calm and friendly, but Shirakawa can hear the undercurrent of menace in it. He grits his teeth and rolls his shoulders, holding them as loose as he can without slouching. The ball comes flying, and he swings.
--
When Shirakawa decided to follow Chris to Seidou, he did not count on Ryousuke. Or their ridiculous rule about three bowls of rice per meal. Or Miyuki. Or Kuramochi, for that matter. Kuramochi is an annoyance and a good leadoff, but Shirakawa is of the opinion he’s the better shortstop.
Kuramochi clearly disagrees. Either way, they are in direct competition for the position, but also Ryousuke’s attention. They both know he’s the second baseman, and they both know that whomever works better with Ryousuke is more likely to become shortstop.
Thus far, Kuramochi is winning only perhaps because he’s louder and more demanding, though Ryousuke gives neither of them the time of day. Fielding practice is brutal and Ryousuke sets ridiculous standards that both he and Kuramochi struggle to meet. At least he can catch a ball that’s thrown at him, much to Kuramochi’s chagrin.
He makes first string after the summer training camp, just barely ahead of Kuramochi. He’s more than ready to die at this point, but practice makes perfect, he reminds himself. Partnerships take work, and Kuramochi was only a hop and a skip behind, far too ready to take his spot on the first string if the opportunity should present itself.
Team bonding manifests itself in the form of sobbing over shoujo mangas and Shirakawa’s not sure if he’s disgusted by the display or not. His respect for Jun reaches dangerously low levels when asked to go acquire the latest issue of Cookie while tears and snot were streaming down his face. Chris seems to sigh at all the madness while Yuuki challenges Miyuki to yet another round of shogi he would lose terribly at, and the only calm in the room seems to be where Ryousuke is curled up reading. So that’s where he opts to sit, watching as the rest of the first string yelled and generally made a mess of the room. He’s aghast at how much mess they make, between the snacks and the drinks and manga.
Ryousuke offers something for the room to pass around and Jun’s immediately backing away. “No, I am not taking food from you ever again. No.” Even Chris looks a little apprehensive, but Shirakawa shrugs and takes some. The rest of the room is watching in fascinated horror while he chews, waiting for something.
“What?” he snaps impatiently.
“He ate it.” Jun whispers loudly. “He’s not crying.”
“Why should I be crying?” Shirakawa demands.
“Even Yuuki’s eyes were watering.” Miyauchi murmurs. They all regard him with some kind of awe, and Shirakawa cannot understand the fuss. Sure, it was a little on the spicy side, but it wasn’t that spicy. He rolls his eyes and turns back to his phone. One of the shows he was following would be up soon, and he was rather interested in the next installment. Ryousuke catches his eye and offers him a small smile before turning back to his book, but it’s the first genuine one Shirakawa has ever had directed at him.
If his breath hitches, just a little, no one else but him has to know.
--
Learning to work with someone is an exercise in understanding them and yourself, and Shirakawa finds that there is much he can learn from Ryousuke. He is hard on Shirakawa, but Shirakawa does his best to match Ryousuke’s expectations, and strives to earn the rare compliments and high fives Ryousuke offers. Playing with Ryousuke increases the respect Shirakawa has for him, even as he’s earning Ryousuke’s.
They make a good showing at the summer tournament, but their partnership is still new and it shows. When they fail at the semi-finals, Shirakawa wonders why defeat tastes so bitter now. But he supposes he had his chance to join Narumiya, and he’d decided to come here instead.
The third years retire and the first string is shuffled around, reminding Shirakawa how tenuous his position is and how easy it would be for Kuramochi to take his place. As it is, Kuramochi has been stubbornly persistent in asking Ryousuke for advice and practicing with him. Shirakawa can’t decide if it’s admiration or infatuation that drives Kuramochi to push so far, but he can hardly fault him for it, not when a bit of both drives him to impress Ryousuke.
The fall tournament is where his and Ryousuke’s hard work begin to pay off, when they pull off play after play. The fall tournament is another way to Koushien, and Shirakawa wants this badly enough that he can almost taste it. He’s not the only one, he knows how badly the second years want it. They all have something to prove, but so does he. He wants Koushien with Ryousuke, a reliable partner who understood him and whom he understood. He wants to raise his arm and tap his glove against Ryousuke’s after a good play on a national stage.
He wants a lot of things, but right now he mostly wants to bring the runner on third home.
He’s next at bat, with Ryousuke right behind him.
“Relax,” Ryousuke murmurs. “And remember to keep your shoulders loose.” Shirakawa offers him a grim smile before he steps up to plate. The pitcher glares at him, even as he gets into position. His shoulders are as loose as they are going to get, even as he watches the pitcher wind up.
The ball flies towards him, and he swings.
Re: FILL: TEAM Kominato Ryousuke/Kuramochi Youichi, G
"but he’s here at Seidou, being laughed at by Miyuki and bullied by senpai shorter than him." shirakawa got a good deal out of choosing seidou. now he has to put up with miyuki constantly
this relationship between kuramochi and shirakawa? both of them are excellent shortstops, and this is just characteristic of daiya, to have this intense inter-team rivalries. BURNS
Shirakawa silently seeking out ryousuke in the middle of this rowdy room of teammates... that small smile Ryousuke shoots his way... wanting to tap his glove ryousuke's on the national stage....... ah. i love how the end kind of circles back to your opening paragraph :''') this was such a good read I'm still dying
