Bonus Round 3: FSTs

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible.
RULES
- Submit prompts in the form of a short playlist (1-6 songs) and a ship from any of our nominated fandoms. Submit only the track listing and a link to where they can be listened to; the idea is for others to interpret what you present. You may also link to lyrics if you would like.
- Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Lilia & Sara). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Lilia/Sara). Please don't say "Any pairing," either.
- Create content based on the playlists of others! Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
- Fills may be in any form you choose (except for another FST of course) as long as they are inspired by/fit the mood of the soundtrack they are filling for.
- Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

The blood caked on Chris’s skin is not his own. It seems days since he was not caked in the blood of others, the hours an endless drag of plunging swords into the weak and twitching bodies that scatter the battlefield. A piece of mercy, Miyuki had called it, eyes cast out into the distance, full of deep sadness.
Chris remembers the poison vial in his hand, the way he’d collapsed into Kuramochi’s arms after it was finally over.
That was mercy. This, Chris isn’t so sure. There’s people he’s killed he knows they could have saved.
But war is war, and resources are dwindling, Ryousuke’s magic drained to the point of mortal danger.
She hadn’t been able to save either of them, and in the quiet of the camp those nights Chris had heard her weeping.
The grey cast he’s fought so hard to clear from his vision is slipping back in, creeping in a little every day. There’s so much death, so much carnage. He knows it’s for a greater cause, a cause he has to believe in with all his heart, because if he didn’t, the gaping void inside him would consume every trace of humanity and light.
He’s so lost in his own thoughts that he doesn’t hear his name called until a warm hand cups his cheek and turns up his face.
“Your Majesty,” Eijun says firmly, leaning down over Chris’s seated form. “Did you not hear me?”
Chris just looks at him, sickened by how the usual rush of emotion that suffuses his body when he sees Eijun is dulled by his weariness.
“I apologize, Sir Sawamura. I was in contemplation.”
“You were eating yourself alive in your head, I think you mean.” There’s the impertinence that he’s so used to - it stopped being grating long ago.
Eijun’s smiling softly at him, and Chris wonders at it; he’s lost so much in this war. There’s the empty shape of a person next to him that Chris casts his gaze away from guiltily. He’s no right to feel this way for Eijun - not when the wound of his loss must be so raw.
And yet here he stands, smiling into Chris’s blank face.
Radiant.
He could love him, he thinks, he could love this boy forever.
“I can’t sleep, Sawamura.” It comes out unbidden, wet and desperate from between his lips. “I close my eyes and see corpses.”
“As do we all, I think,” is Eijun’s quiet reply, and a lone tear slips out of the corner of his eye. “I see him everywhere. I thought I’d be comforted but it’s frightening to see him so-” Eijun sucks in a quick, jagged breath.
“Eijun…”
“We have to go home, when this is over,” Eijun says abruptly. “We have to build back our lives so it’s not for nothing.”
Chris sighs, full bodied, and it feels like he’s exhaling a tainted fog.
He looks up at Eijun, who’s hand is still cupping his cheek with such exquisite tenderness Chris thinks his heart may burst.
“We?”
“Yes. We. All of us, but… you and I, as well.”
Chris’s breath catches in his throat. He knows hope is dangerous, but he allows it now; he takes Eijun’s hand and presses an urgent kiss to his knuckles.
“We, then. Together.”

He could love hm, he thinks, he could love this boy forever.
BURY ME!!! golly i love them. what a good. i also just love the way you depicted eijun through chris' eyes; he's clearly so smitten but there's still tinges of exhaustion to be found, which seems so appropriate. also the heckin. "empty space" stuff—thank u for that dagger to my heart!!
and the ending!! the ENDING!!! you hope with all ur heart chris, you go get that boy
but yes im still rereading this and finding new things to love and coo over, thank you for writing it <3

I could not resist the allure of Hamilton songs, because I am a weak woman. In the beginning I had cast Chris in the role of Eliza, but partway through the fic I realize that Eijun turned into her instead? Obviously this is a loose interpretation of the songs lol
***
The truth was that Chris had never been sure that he could handle being married to a baseball player; living with a physical reminder of the dream he'd been forced to abandon was its own kind of hell, and he sensed that having an emotional reminder tied to his life as well would just be too much.
But those insecurities didn't stop Eijun from worming his way into Chris' heart. Just when he had begun to resign himself to a life without baseball, the insolent underclassman had been able to return some of the forgotten joy of the game, and in the process he made himself an exception to most of Chris' staunchest self-imposed rules. At the time, it meant that Chris allowed himself to be taken by Eijun's unique charm the way that many others on the team were, to acknowledge all he did for the spirit of the team, even if he was a massive headache while doing it.
Seven years later, it meant that he was sliding a ring onto Eijun's fourth finger. He was the assistant manager of a minor league softball team, and Eijun had recently signed on with a team as an alternate pitcher. Baseball had never left Chris' life, even when he started a college degree in economics, just as Eijun had never left, sending him text messages multiple times a week after Chris graduated from Seidou and refusing to see them grow apart.
Early that morning, Eijun slipped out of bed before the Sun was more than a glimmer on the horizon. Chris stirred immediately, half from the movement itself and half from the ensuing loss of warmth, and blinked the sleepiness out of his eyes as he lifted his head.
“Away game?” He mumbled as Eijun's guilty expression came into view. “Was that today?”
“Yeah,” Eijun answered sheepishly, leaning over to leave a quick kiss on Chris' lips. “Sorry, I thought I could leave without waking you. It's early.”
Chris shook his head and started to kick away the sheet. “No, it's fine. I like seeing you before you go.”
“Chris,” Eijun whined softly. Then he dropped his voice lower and whined again, “Yuu. You're making me miss you and I haven't even left yet.”
Chris found it almost painful how endearing that was. He reached out and touched Eijun’s chest, which was warm even through his thin cotton undershirt. “You don’t have to miss me, Eijun. It’s just for today, and you’ll get to play.”
“Coach might keep me benched,” Eijun said with an exaggerated pout, exactly the way he would have as a high school freshman, and Chris laughed. “Okay, so probably not benched, but I’m not gonna get to pitch the whole game.”
“That’s okay,” Chris murmured absently, fighting the impulse to pull Eijun back into bed. “You haven’t proven yourself yet.”
Eijun huffed, channeling all of his frustration out. “I’ve been doing nothing but proving myself since forever!” He started to cross his arms petulantly, but then changed his mind and took Chris’ hand instead. “Why would they have drafted me if they didn’t know what I could do?”
“Potential,” Chris answered briefly, closing his eyes as he felt Eijun’s calluses against the back of his hand. He opened them again and smiled softly at his partner. “When you’re as good with their catcher as you are with me, then you’ll be the undisputed Ace.”
“That is never going to happen,” Eijun insisted emphatically. “You—You’re Chris.”
Chris’ smile pulled further across his cheeks, and he chuckled softly. “That’s not a very professional attitude.”
Wrinkling his nose, Eijun scoffed and shook his head. “I don’t need a diamond wife. I’m already happily married to the best catcher in the world.”
“Big praise,” Chris mumbled, dropping his head back onto his pillow. “From a completely unbiased source.”
His eyes fell shut again, as he made a conscious effort not to get upset about what could have been. He felt Eijun loom over him, then his hot breath on his cheek. Eijun kissed him gently, skimming his fingers through Chris’ hair.
“I believe that,” Eijun said seriously, speaking by Chris’ ear. “You know I’m a terrible liar.”
Chris slowly opened one eye, the one that wasn’t squished into the pillow. He sighed. “You are a terrible liar,” he agreed. Eijun grinned, and pecked his lips.
“Exactly! So cheer up, please? I’ll come home with a win, just for you.”
“If you don’t, you’re sleeping on the couch,” Chris decided as he relaxed back into the mattress of their bed. He smiled at the sound of Eijun’s distressed yelp before drifting back off to sleep.
Re: FILL: Team Grandstand, G
their dialogue is so perfect—the insistence that eijun doesn't need a diamond wife and that chris is the best catcher in the world is spot on and endearing and just PERFECT. GOSH, I LOVE THEM. thank you for this wonderful fill, i'm a pile of happy goo.
Re: FILL: Team Grandstand, G
I feel like in this context Eijun would feel like he needs to really tiptoe around things and make sure that Chris knows he can't be replaced, even if he does get a little overzealous in avowing his love for his husband above all else. I'm just so happy you feel like it works for them, since this is my first attempt writing Chris ♥♥

I confess I haven't had the pleasure of seeing this musical, however I know Chris would look fantastic in that uniform so I had to draw it
