The Little People, as they were referred to, were a nuisance. They were always complaining that someonee or something had been stepped on, then trying to attack with their tiny armies and miniature catapaults. While they never did much harm besides giving someone an itchy ankle as the scabs healed, the People were quite fed up with all the commotion and decided to move.
So it was that they left the ground to the Little People and instead took to the skies. The Little People called them 'Giants', a coarse and brutish word that over time became an almost affectionate endearment.
So it was for the Small Giant who did not quite measure up to the stature of the other People. Nonetheless, he was quite dearly beloved and when the news came that a Little Person had snuck into the home of his mother, robbed her and then killed him when he'd tried to pursue the Little Person and take their belongings back, the entirety of the population was quite overcome with anger.
For many days, it stormed down on the Little People as the People stomped about the clouds, slamming their feet down to press out as much rain as possible. Eventually, however, the clouds ran dry and cooler minds started to plot how to avenge their fallen friend. The kings of the 5 districts of the sky came together to discuss the matter and along with them came their courtiers.
Hinata, more commonly known as the Tiny Giant, had been an especial admirer of the Little Giant and his skill at sunball. While the Karasuno court debated what to do, he crept off to find the wise woman Kiyoki. She did not say much but she did ask him, "If the Little Person came here by a beanstalk that grew up, then how would you go down?"
Hinata sat in the floor and pondered this until at last he said, "On a potato! Their roots grow down and the potato would make a comfortable seat."
She gave him a chunk of a potato, instructions on how to plant it in the cloud seedbed and sent him on her way. Her apprentice, Yachi, watched worriedly and asked, "Do you think we should have told him abouut the side effects?"
"He'll find out," the wise woman coolly answered and indeed, when the potato was halfway down the sky, Hinata realized that he was getting smaller.
By the time he reached the ground, he was no bigger than the Little People. In fact, when a dark-haired, blue-eyed boy who looked a lot like the King of Karasuno walked over, Hinata found that he was quite a bit smaller than him.
"Wait," one of the children interrupted. "Isn't this the story of how you met dad?"
"...Yes, but also of how I became a great hero! Stop interrupting!"
